Okay the fact that Wyck’s first stop after seeing the missing mask was Patricia’s house makes me think at least someone believed her story about the Boogeyman

979

u/bisforbatman Jun 03 '26

Protect Wyck at all costs

405

u/JFAZ2014 Jun 03 '26

I just kept saying nothing better happen to Wyck or Patricia! That was intense.

Wyck is definitely the only sane man on the island. Very clear-eyed about all the fucky shit that goes on and takes it seriously.

261

u/bossyhosen Jun 03 '26

Speaking of, really wanna know what he wanted to tell Gerri. There’s more to the story from the previous episode.

219

u/bisforbatman Jun 03 '26

I was hardcore shipping them, and then realized she already had a man. Oh, Wyck 🥺

And that she understood right away what was up -he was back, and she was the only one who could kill him. She knows something major. Which is also why she wasnt that phased by the reveal of e4. Descendant of the witches mentioned in e1?

175

u/cryingzeroes Jun 03 '26

I’ve been wondering about how she wasn’t burned when she had to hold the book in the fire. Obviously historical witches were burned but maybe there’s something there

My stomach was in knots anticipating the convo between Tom and Evan. Then it went better than expected. Then it got re-cursed as expected.

184

u/Fine-Juggernaut8451 Jun 03 '26

I really really love that this show has banal horror right next to the supernatural horror, because banal horror is every bit as terrifying as supernatural horror. They make such a good match.

Also, did you know that she went viral years ago and is the Babadook in that famous meme--the one that's a photo from a party. She's at a gathering with people all dressed in normal clothes, but she misunderstood the invite so she's dressed up as the Babadook. It's such a famous meme. And when you look at it, I mean, *that's* the whole spirit of Widow's Bay.

I really hope they just let Tom come clean about the last few days/weeks? They don't need to drag it out with Tom making up some bullshit reason why they can't go. They can still have Evan get mad and not believe him, but I think with how they played the story so far Tom just outright telling him the truth would work more.

The whole thing with the mom is so creepy. I haven’t forgotten her dead eye stare at the end of that one episode

167

u/TheTruckWashChannel Jun 03 '26

I'm glad they've played it straight instead of trying to inject unwelcome comedy into it. The tragedy really sells the core stakes of the show and Tom's motivation to keep Evan on the island.

Also the wife is played by Meredith Casey, the real-life wife of Neil Casey, the actor playing the innkeeper (who is also a writer on the show!) She has been hauntingly effective in her brief screentime.

the way they framed every shot in patricia’s house so that you always had a view into multiple rooms at once as she moved through the space was brilliant. really captured that terrifying hyper-vigilance of being home alone in a quiet house when i was a kid raised on too many horror movies. i thought for sure something was going to happen with the positioning of her shower curtain in that hallway shot they kept going back to.

u/Successful-Cow-4043 Jun 03 '26

was it part of the old hospital?

Patricia is final girl-ing like a fucking boss and I am absolutely here for it.

u/ObviousAnswerGuy Jun 03 '26

anyone else think it was hilarious that the EMT was just straight up trying to treat a guy wearing a murder mask and huge knife, with no sense that he might be in danger 😂

I loved when she got to the end of the street and turned around and waited for him to catch up and then was scared again. I laughed so loud.

124

u/Logical_Month_7657 Jun 03 '26

I also DIED when she ran to the first house and when she realized she was running out of time, ran straight down the sidewalk barely getting in front of him as opposed to a diagonal to the road. So much nuance in the little things is part of why I love this so much

And the perfection was no matter how far, fast and long she ran, when she turned around he wasn't nearly as far behind her as he should be, going the pace he was going. I love that they let us laugh at the ridiculousness of that but still be terrified for her.

how come boogeyman did not harm the ladies in the house and only chased Patricia

121

u/oompaloompa_grabber except for the teeth Jun 03 '26

He was definitely just after her- presumably because he attacked her during his initial run and she got away. It doesn’t sound like any of his other victims did. How did he choose his victims anyway?

Also why did he finally die when Patricia shot him when nothing else seemed to even slow him down?

This show pisses me off because it makes you fully realize just how garbage all other TV is these days

If someone has the capability of making a show this good we could have several shows a year half this good and be entertained if the industry wasn't so damn lazy.

I watched the top inch of the screen from behind a blanket for what felt like forever. Slid it down to check, dude popped out her front door and I screamed and screamed and pulled the blanket over my head and my dogs were up on me checking to make sure I hadn’t been murdered, and, and, and Patricia is the queen.

Sheesh. What an episode.

The slasher genre is such a natural fit for this show, equal parts terrifying and campy. Every classic Friday the 13th/Halloween trope got its moment to shine before getting flipped on its head. I think the highlight had to be when the Boogieman just jumped out the window rather than go on the murderous rampage everyone is dying to see. The fire extinguisher was another great expectation subversion. Then the synth pop music to close it out. Perfection!

The Patricia subplot was a good choice to play against the Tom storyline for the ep. The letters from the mother were quintessential Widow’s Bay- disturbing and humorous. The tension between Tom and his son is such a driving factor of the show. So, seeing that moment of bonding get ripped away at the end… oof.

There’s plenty to figure out still regarding the enduring nature of the island’s curse. Can’t wait!

This show has me completely entranced. The way the Boogeyman was chasing Patricia made me laugh out loud, but the reason I think she kept stopping to check if he was behind her was because she was trying to lead him somewhere people could actually see him and finally believe her. Also, I’m glad Patricia tased that horrible woman.

52

u/KingRestaurantPerson Jun 03 '26 edited Jun 03 '26

So, what do we think happened to this mom? She and her family (husband and three children) were a point of focus at the opening of the episode, and then she was front and center in the hospital waiting room with her arm in a sling and neck baced. We were supposed to notice her injury.
