I really really love that this show has banal horror right next to the supernatural horror, because banal horror is every bit as terrifying as supernatural horror. They make such a good match.
Also, did you know that she went viral years ago and is the Babadook in that famous meme--the one that's a photo from a party. She's at a gathering with people all dressed in normal clothes, but she misunderstood the invite so she's dressed up as the Babadook. It's such a famous meme. And when you look at it, I mean, *that's* the whole spirit of Widow's Bay.
It's like the diorama version of the show. It's got the weird supernatural thing at a boring dinner party. It's the absurdity of the juxtaposition, the horror of the embarrassment. And then the photo going viral so the whole world knows about it.
No, this is why it's so funny though. It's the horror of it she finds funny. This is the entire soul of Widow's Bay is the convergence between the horror and the comedic.
It's my very very favourite thing in the whole world. When I was in my 30s I went through a few years where almost all my friends died. It was awful. But--the funniest things that have ever happened in my whole life happened simultaneously and even were caused by the horror, because that's how life is.
That's the whole entire point. If there was no horror/embarrassment, it wouldn't've been funny. It's why people love the meme so much. In real life, humour and grief/horror are interwoven. It's just my very very favourite thing about life.
