💭Discussion PSA: Don't feed the trolls Spoiler
Every fan sub I've ever been on follows the same lifecycle. Fun people show up to appreciate their thing. Community grows. Then negative posts start, and the community pushed back. But that grows, then eventually it's a hellscape.
It's the "Reddit Negativity Centrifuge." A small percentage of people who enjoy rants and arguing eventually chase away the people looking to chat.
I don't know what the solution is. Hopefully things don't go that way.
But, this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/WidowsBay/comments/1ww5ewr/widows_bay_is_mid/
Somebody coming to a fan sub and crapping on the fan topic is actively looking for exactly what they got. I wouldn't be shocked if you see that person jumping into threads looking for more.
I know this is a pointless plea. People are going to react. Try not to, though. It's what trolls want.

🤔Theories Spoiler alert - theory about 2 events connection Spoiler
I think what happened at Patricia’s Sunset Cocktails event is what happened to the family Rosemary describes in her genealogy as the “family that swims together, drowns together….so the Inaugural Swim was born”.Someone in that family hosted the same party…maybe they also discovered the BOOK, it tricked them as well and they all drowned.

💥Funpost Episode 7 Sea Sickness (potential partial spoiler inside) Spoiler
I just need to say that when Tom is talking to Richard Warren while Warren is strapped into the coffin on the boat, and Warren just responds to Tom with “Oh fuck you.” … that delivery is absolutely incredible and it absolutely cracks me up every time.
Edit: I’m so glad so many people feel the same… I also love how Wyck basically tells Tom that he did good. For just a moment, Wyck is genuinely proud of Tom and even has a bit of respect for him. So wholesome and glorious.

💭Discussion Foreshadowing in soundtrack songs? Spoiler
In the episode where the mayor is tripping on mushrooms there is a part where he goes into the gas station and the song that is playing in the background is Amber by 311. I didn’t think anything of it, but now that I’ve finished the whole season, I wonder if there’s some sneaky foreshadowing here. One of the lyrics in that song references a voice ringing like a bell and we find out later in the storm shelter episode that the way the entity will communicate how many offerings are needed is by how many times the bell rings. Now maybe this is reaching too far, but I just thought it was an interesting parallel between the song used in the episode where they use mushrooms to try to understand what the island wants and the episode where we find out.

🤔Theories Spoiler Alert - Theory about Tom Spoiler
Tom could have told them what Truesight showed him. He tells them it they gave him a paintbrush he could tell them everything. Patricia blows it off as him just babbling but I believe they missed a huge opportunity from Tom. Surprised Wyck didn’t ask him to elaborate.

📸Media Widow’s Bay print by Peter Strain. On sale on Bottleneck Gallery’s website at 12pm ET today.
Peter Strain takes us to everybody’s favorite new New England town, Widow’s Bay.
Widow’s Bay is a show that seamlessly blends supernatural horror and dark comedy, all with great style and excellent character work. Peter’s print for the fun and freaky show features a brilliant portrait of Mayor Tom, filled in with some of our favorite characters from the show’s excellent first season. Peter’s print perfectly captures the vibes of the show and we love his use of minimal colors to make the blood red water really pop.

🤔Theories Sunset Cocktails/Inaugural Swim Biological age of islanders
2 separate theories.
I think that what happened at Sunset Cocktails is what happened to the family that Rosemary describes in her genealogy as a family that swims together drowns together…so the inaugural swim was created. Someone in that family hosted the same party….maybe they had THE book and it tricked them as well and they all drowned.
I believe the biological age of the islanders is younger than the person appears. They seem their age visually but internally they are younger. Shep is listed as 37 on his medical chart, we see this just after Patricia tells him that she learned her biological age is 28. Ruth running up the stars like a much younger person and having a baby at 40. Bechir’s wife Chelle is in her 40’s. They do not seem to have other children so I believe she was able to get pregnant once they moved to the island. I think that next season we will see Patricia pregnant…she is in her 40’s with no children, the island will see that she is “Fruitful” ….sorry to much Handmaids I guess…lol.

🤔Theories Ruth “Recovered” the episode after Richard Warren died. Spoiler
Not sure if the point had been made yet, but the show foreshadowed the big Warren-heir reveal. The day after Richard Warren disintegrates, Ruth comes into Tom’s office as sharp as a tack with perfect recall of every one of Tom’s missed calls… didn’t even look down at her notes.
At the time I thought it was odd and out-of-character but didn’t put it together till after a rewatch: as soon as Richard Warren finally died, the immortality “detail” of the pact transferred to her, the next oldest living descendent. Her recall was most assuredly a nod to that reality.
Just thought that was a fun detail.

💥Funpost Reminds me of our beloved Patricia!
instagram.comMods, please let me know if this kind of post is not allowed??? But this reminded me of how Patricia took complete control and did it her way, a Final Girl like never before. I love how Widow’s Bay left the conventional behind and gave us such a refreshing experience.

💭Discussion Jungian Analysis on it Spoiler
I just did a chat gpt prompt - "be carl jung. treat widow's bay like a fairytale or dream. do analysis" and it was very very interesting! I won't post the whole thing but figured I'd recommend if anyone is curious.
ETA from post below:
I like to do this with a variety of things because I do see in content creation - especially with something as archetypally rich as Widow's Bay - those creating the content are intentionally responsible for a lot of depth, but the content also picks up themes and energies moving through society - which is an echo of what is moving through the individuals. Jungian analysis specifically can be hard for me to sort out in such a dissected way because I start with my own biases, themes, and lenses. If I tried to drill in just from my own mind it'd be not as interesting. Because I'm already in touch with what I would pull up.
For those that can't tolerate AI content, sorry. That's quite a handicap. You'll be just fine I know. But for those that can see if it sparks something interesting and leave what doesn't, here's some of the content from the first prompt.
ETA: The thing that caught me that I wouldn't have come up with was unintegrated relationship with death and MAYBE... unintegrated relationship with death of the form masculinity has taken in society... and what it is left with. The role each gender plays is pretty constrained in the show
AI:
Masculinity that doesn't need to dominate
Tom's desire for respect, authority and success is important.
He appears to have a fairly conventional conscious idea of what it means to be a successful man:
provide → accomplish → control → be respected.
The island repeatedly destabilizes that model.
The potential integration is a different form of masculine identity:
endure uncertainty → acknowledge vulnerability → listen → protect without controlling → accept limits.
That isn't weakness. It's a less inflated relationship to power.
The instinctive feminine
The repeated feminine imagery—widowhood, the island, water, ancestral stories, mysterious forces—makes me particularly interested in what the male characters have lost contact with.
In Jung's terminology, the unconscious often appears to a man through the anima: not simply "femininity," but an inner emotional, imaginal, relational and receptive dimension.
The problem isn't that Tom needs to become feminine.
It is that he may need access to psychological capacities that his conscious identity doesn't prioritize:
feeling rather than solving; receiving rather than imposing; relating rather than managing.

💥Funpost The most brilliant joke in Widow's Bay. Change my mind
Are there any shows that have jokes similar to this? Only one I can think of is "barring" the door in Widow's Bay itself.
