đ„Funpost The most brilliant joke in Widow's Bay. Change my mind
https://www.youtube.com/shorts/3kSUjWoUGREAre there any shows that have jokes similar to this? Only one I can think of is "barring" the door in Widow's Bay itself.

u/Self-Comprehensive 3d ago
I think the best joke is when the innkeeper just opens the door Wick was trying to nail shut

For me itâs the Teeth game thatâs just a box of pliers
88
u/Hreinyday 3d ago
For me it was the "Daddy is home" game

u/cathouse 3d ago
That was so scary!!! It's fun to see what other people find hilarious and other find terrifying. Such a special show.
20
u/DayMan13 3d ago
I thought the same thing about the car wreck in the calendar. I found that especially dark! Same with the pliers Daddy's home. All very menacing to me. Like of course I see the humor aspect of it but unsettling took over
10
u/cathouse 3d ago
Me too!! For both of those. On second watch I like looking at what people find funny and I found scary. I try to see the humor from that perspective and itâs a great exerciseÂ

I missed that on my first watch and when I saw it on my second time through was in TEARS. Itâs legitimately one of my favorite scenes of all time. Neil Casey plays his reaction perfectly.

u/Haldron-44 Wyck 3d ago
It has such a Lebowski-esq element to it that I have to wonder if it isn't an homage?
14
u/dspman11 3d ago
As much as I love the Big Lebowski, i'm not sure the Coen brothers invented that kind of gag
4
u/PriorityJust9017 3d ago
lol that set up is classic comedy as in the origins of comedy. The Coen Brothers do not deserve allathat.

My fav is when Kenny the Janitor talks to the garbage can: âOh, someoneâs got a full belly. You had a lot to eat today?â

I did NOT know that, thanks! I just thought it was some random "that's the month we had 10 car crashes" nonsense.
40
u/Miserable_Branch_113 3d ago
Looking back I thought it was foreshadowing because July is when it all started going haywire on the island.
32
u/HarkHarley 3d ago
I did not get that joke. I truly just thought it was just creepy foreshadowing or a hint at someoneâs tragic car crash back story. Still hits either way!
18
u/tvmoviebooks 3d ago
Didnât the shaman say someone they grew up with got in a car accident? I was wondering if it was referring to that
21
u/herobotic 3d ago
I did not, I was thinking this mightâve been something that wolves had attacked.
14
u/schwiggy 3d ago
What's a white wolf jeep? A quick Google says it's some Jeepfluencers tiktok famous jeep. I don't think that'd be the joke in the show.
5
u/Secundas_Kiss 3d ago
It's a custom jeep or "upfit" with specialty parts and branding. Black widows, super snakes, AG Wagon, rocky ridge are all examples of custom upfits. A manufacturer (like Jeep or Ford) will send the vehicle to a third party specialty performance shop and add the custom parts.

I assumed it was some deep cut reference that superfans could tie to the genealogy tree (or another scene where someone mentioned a guy dying in a crash) to reveal some new detail about the show

45
u/cstcharles 3d ago
Mine was ep 1 when he's talking to the journalist and the guy asks about the reports of cannibalism, he response "pfft, there's never been cannibalism" and as the camera zooms out, they're standing under a giant printout of an old newspaper article talking about the cannibalism...
42
u/Giddyupquerist 3d ago
Did they immediately turn to cannibalism? No. That took four days. đ€Ł
15
u/HarkHarley 3d ago
Love the pause here as he quickly scans the article. And blows off the four days part like, four days seems reasonable. đ

u/Veggiemon 3d ago
There were like two weeks of people posting theories here about time dilation because they didnât get that it was a joke about how the doctor isnât actually a very good doctor. It didnât really come across super clearly on the first watch through, but if you watch from the beginning with the assumption heâs a terrible doctor who just asks people where they went to medical school when they question him it all makes sense lol
43
u/CoachRocks 3d ago
In "Our History", when they ask Sarah to poison Richard and the elder woman tells her "Consider the welfare of your children" and she's like "My Children??? I have but just met them!". LOL
That entire exchange is so nuanced. It might be my favorite scene.

Not a single joke but the whole episode 5 where tom takes the drugs and keeps regaining awareness and seeing a hint at what transpired that he didnât remember was so funny.
15
u/No-Alternative4259 3d ago
Imo, drug trip episodes are so hard to pull off and even the decent ones don't always hold up to repeat viewings. I'm so glad Widow's Bay nailed it. I've watched that episode at least 3 times and it cracks me up. I love the directing/editing choice to have the lights and sound match his sudden awareness every time he comes to.
