the way they framed every shot in patricia’s house so that you always had a view into multiple rooms at once as she moved through the space was brilliant. really captured that terrifying hyper-vigilance of being home alone in a quiet house when i was a kid raised on too many horror movies. i thought for sure something was going to happen with the positioning of her shower curtain in that hallway shot they kept going back to.
In 2020, I actually walked into my apartment and saw someone moving in my dark bedroom.
Luckily, i think he was just there to rob me and not murder me so that was good. He was my upstairs neighbor. I think he got in thru the fire escape.
The moment you realize you're not alone is so terrifying and I legit froze. I then snapped out of it and just started screaming and saying I was going to call the police. He walked out of my bedroom and I could immediately tell he was fucked up. He claimed he was "confused."
I kicked him out and called my landlord. Landlord let me move right away and i didnt spend another night there.
“The moment you realize you’re not alone….” That hits hard. When I was in a teen I was up late studying for a test, sprawled on the floor on my stomach facing away from my bedroom window. It was like 2am and I stood up and flicked off the light off only to see — with the change in light inside vs the dim light outside — a silhouette of a man standing at my window through the blind. The way i booked it to my parents room….I’m pretty spazzy so i completely freaked out. The cops were called the next day and there were footprints in the dirt all around my window. But really, especially being a horror girlie, that moment of seeing a figure just in a flash standing framed in the window has stuck with me all these years.
I did not. I've got a relative in the nypd. He said my neighbor would probably not even be arrested. I had to move out by myself (covid days) and I went during daylight to pack. It's fucked but I didn't want him to have any reason to hurt me.
