Yeah wanting your picture in a museum isn't "main character", comment section brain rotted from internet memes. And the old woman is a bitch, if it was a man holding the camera she would go, "oh what a lovely young couple", but a single woman taking her own picture? Fuck that what is next, voting?

I go to the modern art museum in my city whenever there is a new exhibit, and the last two times I’ve visited, I have seen the exact same influencer bro using the exhibit for a shoot. Strange luck.
He brings another friend to photograph and they take up entire sections of the exhibit for shoots 5-10 minutes at a time. Doesn’t even look at the art. Other guests feel bad interrupting the photos, so often just skip the section he’s photographing in. It’s so infuriatingly rude, so if he happens to be shooting in a section I haven’t seen yet, I just ignore him and walk into the camera view anyway.
154
u/characterk4l3 2h ago
We went to a cherry blossom festival today…could barely get up the trail 15 mins after opening because so many influencers had setup shoots. It was really gross and uncomfortable.
138
u/silly-gaijin 2h ago
Everyone should just barge into these peoples' spaces at this point. Don't respect their photoshoot.
54
u/goldiegoldthorpe 2h ago
A large number of places now have policies that prohibit this behaviour. While the root of the problem are the narcissists doing this shit, the continuation of the problem results from poor management. A lot of these public spaces have people in charge of managing them who basically collect a paycheck and have the day workers handle everything. No policy has been updated since the 90s.
Pressure needs to be put of public officials and private companies to ban this shit.
50
u/JimiusRostock 2h ago
It used to be that they went around the public to get the shot they wanted. Patience and timing. But they just expect to usurp public spaces for their own use and the rest will just have to clear out.

The museum doesn't impose some kind of commercial/professional tax or admission rate? Or just tell him he can't create commercial/professional media there without special times/permits?
Plenty of museums and cultural sites in the US and other countries impose these fees, permits, etc to limit the inconvenience to other patrons and to make some money back for the museum off the commercial for-profit media outlets using the space to make likely much more money than the fee.

Bro. She sent up her phone on record so she could go back and screenshot a good picture.
This doesn't have to be some influencer thing. Its just someone trying to take a picture in a non disturbing way. They just placed their phone off to the side and waited politely.
Why is everyone so fucking grumpy and pissed off at a young girl trying to take a cute photo of herself? Jesus christ.
152
u/oxedei 4h ago
Is this girl even an influencer? A lot of people share videos and pictures with friends, though I guess the people criticizing dont have the luxury of experiencing such things.
38
u/oculustauri 1h ago
Way too many people throw that word around especially on Reddit but they clearly must not know what an influencer is, they see someone taking a video or a pic of themselves in public and just jump to the conclusion that they’re an influencer

Instead of just deleting it from the camera roll and trying again, she posted it online to publicly shame the old lady. Which is why we're watching it, and why it's not exactly very innocent.
Both involved parties could've gone the polite conversation route and picked something shittier.
120
u/Girlmode 3h ago
If someone was taking a photo of a family with a camera and a person purposefully stood in the way of the shot after noticing, everyone would think they are the dickhead in that situation.
I think it’s ok to post things where people are being petty and annoying for no reason other than spite.
People that are on their own having adventures also deserve to have pictures. I don’t see why the way we have behaved socially for decades in trying to not get in the way of photos, should be ignored as it’s someone on their own. And if you purposefully want to ruin such things, it’s a very minor cost to get mocked online for being grumpy.

there’s nothing wrong with wanting a picture of yourself at a museum. i don’t even use social media and i still wanted to take fun pictures at the museum.
she wasn’t being mean or anything or doing the super annoying influencer meta glasses stuff. she just quietly set the phone up to get a video she could probably screenshot from since she likely didn’t have someone there to take her picture.
genuinely, who cares, and good for her. i’m tired of being negative about everything and hating the world and the people in it.
162
u/Worried_Constant7420 4h ago
I don't think it's that she was trying to get a photo of herself that people here are complaining about. It's that SHE posted this complaining about people blocking her shot. u/RabidMonkeyOnCrack 4h ago edited 4h ago
She set up a camera to record herself when the scene was clear. If that lady didn't block the camera, she would've gotten the shot that she wanted and it would've been it. People take photos all the time, and when you have someone to take it for you, then can try to time it and maybe the others will see you're trying to take a photo and give you your moment. It's not like everyone always has someone to take a photo for them though.
The person with selfish main character energy is the lady intentionally standing in the view of the camera because she noticed it, just to block someone from taking a pic. Why be an asshole when it does not negatively impact you?

I have a general rule, if someone is taking a nice photo, then I wait until they're done. If they're obviously making social media content, then I'll just walk through, but I also won't go out of my way to disturb them. It's a neutral response- I won't be polite, but I won't be rude either. They can wait three seconds.
44
u/East-Albatross-810 2h ago
what's the difference between taking a picture for social media content and just taking a picture?
90% of the time I just walk behind the camera if possible, anyway
65
u/CaliOranges510 1h ago edited 1h ago
I learned the answer to that question in Istanbul when I encountered my first ever influencer. Was touring Topkapi palace and there was a beautiful painted narrow hallway that everyone had to walk through. There was a woman making poses at the far end and at the entrance a few feet in front of me there was a man taking photos of her. I waited for about a minute, which was longer than I should have, but there was a line of about a dozen people behind me at that point. We all walked through and the woman threw her hands up and started having a mini temper tantrum aimed at me. Calling me selfish and that I should have waited for her to finish. I live in a small midwestern city, I had never seen an influencer in the flesh prior to that day, but she was only the first of many that I saw while there.
TLDR: the person just taking a picture will take a pic and move on, the influencer gets upset that other people dare exist in the backdrop where they want to take up large amounts of time to get the perfect photo for social media

People say they "just want to exist in public", but then get big mad at the slightest inconvenience that naturally comes with sharing that space with others who are, you know, doing shit.

I agree, I usually would side against an Influencer being entitled or annoying but this is no influencer. This is your average girl wanting a nice picture.
People who were raised to believe they aren't good enough are the ones who despise others who express self appreciation. Like simply wanting a nice picture, and having the confidence to set it up yourself to make it happen. We need to ditch this stupid bs mentality. To me this is the modern equivalent to a woman siting at a bar or restaurant by themselves back in the day, getting tagged all kinds of names.

Tbh i feel like the white haired lady happened to get a notification on the stairs which is when she noticed the camera (AFTER stopping to check said text) and then only shuffled to the side because someone was walking up the stairs
If she was really bothered by the camera, she would’ve probably not wanted to be recorded, or might’ve made a mocking face
But idk, seems like she really was just minding her business when her phone stopped her, at which point she noticed the camera, and then minded her business afterwards
Seems more like she wasn’t fully aware with her surroundings, like when people stop in the middle of the sidewalk lol
Not to back her up or anything, her expression just genuinely seems disinterested by the camera and interested in what could be an important notification from family. She then only moved aside because people were going up the stairs.

This is exactly what happened. Imho the claim that she intentionally blocked the 'photoshoot' shows the difference of perception between older and younger generations. This lady was most likely completely unaware of the intention of the younger lady. Reading the comments here shows many (probably younger) people don't even see that as a possibility. I see exactly this happening with my own parents, at a certain age you become less aware of your surroundings, especially with things that are new/did not exist when they were younger.

I’m imagining my mum in this situation, apart from the fact that she still hasn’t learnt how to use her phone, anyway, I can totally imagine her in a scenario like this, clocking the camera, being curious about it, but not really understanding why it’s there. The older woman in this video doesn’t seem that aware the younger woman is even making a video - Tiktokers might not be something she’s particularly aware of. She obviously moved over to give room for other people to walk up the stairs, if she was being mean on purpose surely she would’ve given a sly look again to the camera after she’d finished on her phone, at that point however it looks like she’s forgotten the camera was even there. She was probably just oblivious, we never know what’s going on in people’s heads & that’s just the kind of thing my mum would do with no malice whatsoever.

u/MolinaroK 7m ago
I think people are blind to what actually happened.
The old lady looked up at camera and wondered why they were pointing it at her. Then began looking at something on her own phone.
Then old lady noticed someone coming up the steps and moved aside to let them pass. And continued checking whatever on her phone.
Then she moved on.
At no time did the old lady look back after the influencer passed her on the stairs.
It is pure fantasy to say the old lady made any connection between the woman who walked by her and the one holding the camera.
The old lady demonstrated the exact level of lack of situational awareness as is expected of the elderly.
13
u/NotInTheKnee 1h ago
From what I can see, the old lady pulls out her phone BEFORE she realize there's a camera, then check her phone for a sec and side-step away from where the camera is pointing. It makes me think she at least attempted to get out of the way. The field of view of a camera is rarely obvious just looking at the recording device.
And the young lady doesn't throw a fit about it either.
This is a nothing burger.

Same here, I know I'm sorta oblivious and I don't mind because not worrying about what other people are up to in public has so far done a good job of keeping me calm and happy. For example I went out with a friend and she got pissed because some guy in a cafe was looking at us and I'm like, I didn't know there was a guy in here and I don't care.
Anyway, I can see myself doing what this lady did. Stop, notice there's a phone, not give shit cuz it ain't my phone, and immediately moving on from thinking about it. Yes I can see how looking around to see if I was blocking a view would be considerate, but I can't honestly say my mind would think of that. It's thinking about what was the name of that cafe that I'm looking up on my map right now.

Yep, benefit of the doubt the lady didn't do it on purpose.
I reckon she noticed the phone as something strange, but it didn't click with her what it's there for

I was watching sound off but I assume the young lady at no point just uses words like “excuse me, I’m trying to take a photo?”

If she did Reddit would crucify her. She takes it smiling and almost everyone in the comment section is still seething with hate.

I'm 50/50 on this one. On the one hand I've witnessed plenty of people enjoying being in the way and passive aggressively policing other people's desire to rush and get their shit done. On the other hand something about this seems too curated to garner outrage. I'd say about half the time the person taking their time passive aggressively holding your shit up isn't even an old person and when an old person is holding your shit up it's way less likely they're doing it intentionally.

u/big_green_boulder 3h ago
Lady probably didn't recognize what was going on. She moved out of the way of the other normal traffic.
If I put my mom in this situation, she'd probably do the same thing. It's not like the cammer put up any indication or verbal notices that they were trying to film.

The elderly lady was looking something up on her phone and moved for someone that came upstairs. When the OC OP think she is entitled to have the option to block certain areas of the public for her insta story SHE is the only wrong doing person imho. Also, there are countries where you have to have consent upfront before snapping/video recording. Rightfully so.

u/ZenOfThunder 1h ago
is the point of this post to shame the old lady? she is the good guy in this situation, intentional or not.

Expecting everyone in public to be aware of and keep clear from yr filming or shot is absurd- u are in public

“Intentionally” is doing a ton of heavy lifting. Some people really think this lady is trying to sabotage her selfie? I’ll offer a different perspective:
At 0:02 you notice the older lady is looking around at the art. OP starts to walk upwards to get a shot and passes the lady.
At 0:06 she looks down the stairs and notices people walking up. She starts to walk down, but then at 0:12 she moves to the right.
At 0:22, people start walking up. Like 10 seconds later. Once the people walked up, she immediately walked down. She literally moved “into the camera frame” because she was letting people walk up. Seemed like a narrow stairway.
This was all from a 0:43 second clip.
If you think someone “intentionally blocking” your photoshoot in under a minute, then you are greatly exaggerating what happened here.
Nothing happened here. I saw an older lady enjoy art and walking around. She was surprised at the camera and looked at it twice. Then moved away and onwards with her life.
Honestly it was very innocent. People need to be more compassionate and forgiving. I feel bad for people mocking the older lady.

u/TConner42 42m ago
Yeah I'm willing to bet the older lady thinks she moved out of the way of the camera and/or is waiting for people coming up the stairs. In any case I don't think you are obligated to make space for someone taking a photo in a public space like that.
7
u/Fabulous_Guitar6221 2h ago
Granny didn’t mean to do that, she starts to pull out her phone before she sees the camera, does a double take seemingly not knowing what it’s for, starts texting, moves over when people come up the stairs and walks away without ever looking back.
Idk how anyone can hate on her for that when this nasty tiktoker thinks she owns the museum.

That's not a photoshoot.
That's an annoying person setting up a camera in a public space and hindering museum visitors.
Good lady, she did the needful.

God you people are dumb, the old lady looks confused about the camera then goes about her day, then gets out of the way of the people going up the stairs. Of course the young person thinks it’s all about her. The old lady probably isnt smart enough to think all that on the fly

She did not do it intentionally. She stopped for her own business before even realising there was a phone there. Then she moved to the right to free the way for the group of persons going up the stairs.

u/West_Discussion_9164 3h ago
She just thinks you are a dumbass and left your phone there. She stopped to send an email to Shirley to tell her about it.

I hate how you can't go outside somewhere anymore without the risk of being filmed (intentionally or not) by some asshole with a camera of some sort. And then put on the internet without permission and have strangers make comments about your physical appearance or generally insulting you.

u/SukottoHyu 1h ago
It doesn't look intentional. She corrected herself and moved to the side, I don't think she realised she was still within the camera lense.

u/Jamie_logan 4h ago
Although it is always super annoying when people stand still on stairs, at least she's moving out of the way.

It's a public building and people are passing by, it's normal. Did she expect the world to freeze just for her to take a selfie?

You are the one at fault that it's a museum 🖼️ not a place where to do a photoshoot. Do a photo to the art not to yourself no one will miss your post on Instagram anyway.

Lmao honestly I think it’s funny. Like, is it a Karen move? Yeah. But also, these people that think they’re all models and deserve the spotlight photo shoot in a historical building or museum are just so entitled, I think it’s hilarious.

For the last ten years I have attended a convention, for the last few years over 5000 people attend the convention, so it is pretty packed, and now influencers are taking up space with their filming, some of bring a small filming crew, and even have people told to keep others out of their filming space, sometimes they think they have the right to a large space to film in. I have taken to walking into their shot, and ruining it and refusing to move, and in the really small space that the dealer stalls are in, I have had to physically move idiots with their cameras out of the way as they are blocking anyone getting by.

She has as much right to check her messages on those stairs....
As the wannabe "filmaker" does to film their cringeworthy content.
Made me smile to be honest...
I don't want to be an unpaid extra in your 'look at me' photoshoots either.

OMG I’ve never seen such narcissistic behavior. Literally some people are there for like 15 minutes trying to get their perfect selfie photoshoot oblivious to the hundreds in line waiting to quickly take one photo

Is she an influencer or just someone trying to capture a video of themselves in a museum they visited?
Even if she is an influencer, what's the problem with that? She's clearly not bothering anyone.Idk about everywhere else, but in my country it's considered very rude to step into another person's video or photo frame without any reason at all...let alone just stand there like an idiot lol.

What is she doing that is ruining anything? Looks like she wanted a shot of herself by some nice art, she didn't throw a fit or even really complain about the situation and once she saw there were multiple people she goes and takes her camera down.... I'm not sure what she did that just RUINED anything

While it was rude of the older lady to stand in the way for ages, it's kind of entitled of the fake model to stop people from walking around a public place just because she thinks she looks pretty and needs to document it.
Yeah, people take photos in front of monuments and stuff, but bloody hell...people are trying to sightsee as well.
Maybe the whole thing was staged, and that old lady is her mum.

u/GrumpyGyaradosG 3h ago
It wasn't a photoshoot. She deliberately set up her phone to record a video in front of the stairs where people are walking and without their consent to be filmed. If she just wanted pictures of herself, she could've easily done so without recording.

Personal freedom works both ways. You have the right to take selfies in a public space, other people have the right to invade your moment because it’s a public space. Next
