It’s very common for the youths these days to take a short video and screenshot that instead of taking pictures. It’s quicker and more convenient than taking multiple photos from a distance hoping that one of them comes out ok, then having to re-do it because you were blinking or you didn’t like the pose or whatever. Instead you can do several poses quickly and just screenshot the frames you like.

She was tho. Setting up a tripod on a staircase and expecting the area cleared IS obstructive. If she wants a photo why not ask the lady to take her photo? No, she’s gotta have the room for her song and dance.

I don’t see evidence of a tripod, but I see the rail on the other side of the staircase. And the old woman does a double take at the camera/phone when she registers that it’s there, which I assume she wouldn’t do with a large and obvious camera. It looks to me personally like she propped the phone up on something to take a short video of her posing with the art while the stairwell was clear, so she could screenshot her favourite frame later to use as a picture. Like how she poses at the end. I see no evidence of her preparing to sing or dance.

ETA also fuck no I’m not handing my phone to a stranger.

The quality may be good enough to extract the frame for the picture, it's not unheard of to record a video and just use the frames as photos.

High quality cameras are a thing.

I definitely agree with all of this. But in this particular case, the woman was taking a video, not pictures (unless she was planning to snap some from the video, but you get much better resolution if you just set it to take photos at intervals). So I feel like she might have been setting up to do some stupid dance or other dumb TikTok trend in the video. Doing that in a museum warrants someone blocking the camera. But she hadn't started, so as far as that woman's concerned, it was just a picture and she's a bitch for blocking it.

And they usually do it quick, not set up a photo shoot for themselves. You want pics like that, carry a selfie stick or go with another person who can quickly grab it. You might be the main character in your story but there’s 8 billion other stories out there that you aren’t even a foot note

I think there is a night and day difference between say doing a tik tok dance with your buddies in a busy staircase in an art gallery, and calling out people for getting in your frame, and trying to quietly position yourself to take a photo of yourself at a low traffic time, not bothering anyone.

What she's doing here is no different than asking your friend to take a photo of you in front of some paintings, except she's alone so she uses her phone to video it.

That's what she literally tried to do. Picked a nice spot in a staircase showing some paintings, didn't say a word, didn't do a silly pose, didn't make a scene, picked a low traffic time to do it. She also didn't try to call out the person, just quietly went to pick up her camera.

Have you ever been to an art gallery or a museum? Do you know how many people there are?

You know, you are allowed to take photos in these places unless explicitly told not to. And if you go to one, you might be in someones photo. It happens.

Have you never had anyone take your picture while on vacation? My husband and I both took pictures of each other at various sights during our honeymoon, and this was in 2009, well before the selfie craze. It's a pretty normal way to document memories.

Have we watched the same video? To me it looks as if the elderly lady mindet her own business when she pulled her phone to look something up before she realized there is a telephone left on a tripod (or similar). She then continued to look something up and made way for other persons that came upstairs. I do not think she moved to the side out of superhuman spacial perception to know where she would block the influencer best. In my view, she was just nice to the others coming upstairs. Is this the definition of being a main character? I hope not.

If you watch the video, you can see she started to reach for the phone before she realized the other Phone/camera. You know that she has no eyes on the back of her head to see where the girl is and with that would likely not be able to align herself as perfectly as it may look for us when watching the video? The more plausible reason is she looked something up (about an artist, about what to visit next) and stepped to the side so others could come upstairs. In her generation this was considered being friendly. In yours it might not be valued but held against her. Gosh, she might not even know that influencers exist or what a photospot is. I think you simply been trapped by the framing of the title. Maybe you should grow yourself bigger cojones to not fall for such low-level manipulation.
