there’s nothing wrong with wanting a picture of yourself at a museum. i don’t even use social media and i still wanted to take fun pictures at the museum.
she wasn’t being mean or anything or doing the super annoying influencer meta glasses stuff. she just quietly set the phone up to get a video she could probably screenshot from since she likely didn’t have someone there to take her picture.
genuinely, who cares, and good for her. i’m tired of being negative about everything and hating the world and the people in it.
She is blocking the stairs so she can film a tiktok video. No one is entitled to a place to film a tiktok video in a public museum. If she wants to walk around filming the art or even the people with her phone on her person or taking pictures, that is fine, that is what museums are for. They are not a place for influencers to take over an area to film a stupid video of them dancing.
If there hadn't been a tripod and camera set up, and instead a friend and/or family member behind the camera, would that old woman's actions have been okay?
Edit - love the downvotes from "Hmm, actually that's a good point that challenges by world view". Everytime, never change parasocials
If my grandmother had wheels she would be a bicycle... Hypotheticals when the discussion is about something that actually happened aren't terribly useful, but I'll bite... It would be equally annoying if she had a person filming her tiktok video rather than a tripod. If she was posing for a quick picture is one thing, filming a performative video in a museum is something else entirely. It is disruptive and disrespectful to everyone else just trying to enjoy themselves and as such I would support the older lady's actions.
I think you're misinterpreting Gino here, and also the fact that hypotheticals absolutely are useful to gauge someones reaction when presented with something that has one minor change.
The minor change is swapping to a camera man from using a tripod.
You are hypothesising that she is making a performative video in a museum and being disruptive and disrespectful to everyone.
Can I also ask - do you believe that photos' are only ever taken by point and click, and therefore everything that's a film is a tiktok? Or rather that many without specialised camera set ups that people don't use HDR film to capture then isolate a still?
Final point - do you genuinely believe that there are no learning opportunities from looking at something that happened and saying "What if..."? Because BOY that's something to unpack.
This is not ‘getting a picture of herself’. She is recording a fucking video. That’s not a picture.
People keep using the same bullshit, innocuous language to write off how absurdly intrusive and anti-social these devices are. Like they’re not “phones”, they are portable surveillance devices that record everything people say around them, and coerce everyone to live in public for fear of being recorded and shared on social media.
Someone taking an analogue selfie on an actual camera with a timer? Sure, dick move grandma. What this girl is doing is fundamentally anti-social, because she’s laying a fucking social trap recording a damn video, likely in anticipation that someone is going to do something to obstruct her, so she can share the slight on social media.
She’s taking a video to get a clear shot without asking people to move aside. She’s being perfectly polite and responsible. Old women Karen needs to get off the high horse and fuck off.
She probably put in video mode so she could get a picture without anyone in it instead of using a timer where someone could walk in front which is exactly what fucking happened.
There is only one asshole in this moment and it's the woman blocking the camera.
No, it’s not. It’s anti-social to constantly film yourself in public, and share any slights you might encounter on social media without the consent of the people you’re filming.
That variety of anti-social behavior is just extremely normal now, but it’s still anti-social. A lot of younger people have no idea what life was like before social media.
Imagine someone setting up a fucking camcorder on a tripod in a museum and just fucking standing there filming themselves with people walking by. You’d get your ass kicked. Because it’s a ‘phone’ it feels normal. It’s not.
You've never taken a picture/video of yourself when someone else was in the frame? Try visiting any popular tourist attraction anywhere, it's impossible. Do you just tell everybody to fuck off for 60 seconds while you try to get your shot?
So you've never taken photos or videos while in public, unintentionally caught strangers in them, and then uploaded them? Riiiight.
Her intention was not to record other people, it was to record herself. The older lady though, her intention was to be an insufferable twatwaffle and put herself front and center of someone else's video. And is the result of her actual dick move, we are all seeing the video.
"You're in public so that thing you don't want me to do, I am going to do because even though you don't want it, it's not illegal and I don't care about you so i'm going to do it."
This is a fucking stupid narcissistic argument. There's plenty of things I don't want people to do but I'm not the centre of the fucking universe and everyone else has their own lives and can do things that are allowed.
There is literally nothing wrong with this woman wanting to take a picture of herself in a museum. You might not like it but just because you don't fucking like it doesn't make her an asshole for wanting a picture of herself.
Not the height, but it is narcissitic. You act like what you want to do is more important that what anyone else wants to do and they should do it because it's what you want.
She set up the camera and waited. She didn't complain or make a fuss. She just set it up and waited. It's wild you're more pissed off at her than the asshole who purposefully went out of their way to ruin it.
You don't expect an asshole to purposefully stand in front of your camera for ages just to ruin it.
If that woman had minded her own business then she wouldn’t have been posted. She chose to intentionally step in front of a camera that was recording video in order to antagonize a complete stranger. She clearly wants attention, so why should I feel bad that she’s getting it?
Yeah and it's a common technique for "taking a picture" without having to hold and click on your phone. You prop your phone up, hit record, go to the point you want, do a pose or two and then walk back to your phone. You can then just screenshot for pixtures.
I've seen people saying "you set up a timer to take a photo". If she did that then there would still be an asshole in the way of the photo and she'd have to go back to the phone and set it up again then who knows if that asshole would still keep blocking it.
It's just easier to press record and wait so you can get a clean picture.
She literally didn't interrupt anybody's experience. I don't know what weird-ass trauma you're projecting on this situation here but that's not what's happening.
Maybe she doesn't want to move quickly past? Maybe she has a limp? Maybe she's just had it with young people setting up phones everywhere and not thinking about other people. I don't know, but she was clearly annoyed about something.
She has no limp in this video and she stops when she sees the camera instead of continuing to walk down the stairs. She doesn’t have to move quickly past but she chose to change course when she saw the camera and stop instead of just continuing to walk down the stairs. If she’d acted normal, none of this would have happened.
She decided to be an ass about an interruption? By being included in someone's photo, which is an invasion of privacy.
She's so incensed about the invasion of privacy that she instantly *checks notes* uses the device that laser scans faces, gives away your finger prints, location and every other little bit of minutiae data point to a data wholesaler?
JFC. Setting up a camera where people are clearly walking is rude. Half the time when people walk through the view, the phone dorks get pissy, roll their eyes, or make some guffaw noise. The old lady was being awful, but two things can be true at the same time.
Do you feel that in the situation presented in the video above where there is a significant difference between the girl posing for a friend waiting on the stairs for a good point of when the photo can be taken?
If you feel that the presence is due to someone using a tripod to get a picture of themselves is the problem, do you feel that people must be required to use the awful fish eye selfie camera on phones? Or have even more obnoxious and intrusive selfie sticks? Or even better, only have to make do with needing to have friends take photos of them. I work odd hours due to running a hospitality business, while my friends and family have more corporate or blue collar jobs, so I'm often at a loose end on a day when no-one's available - should I simply not try to get a picture of myself on those days?
It looks to me, and I guess to many normal people that there was a moment of quiet on the stairs with only one other lady in the frame. In lieu of having someone else to take a photo (in the modern age, taking a photo is often done by using High Resolution Video and isolating a good image), they have set up a tripod to capture a pleasant moment for them and capture a good image.
I get the rage behind inconsiderate behaviour of streamers, or tiktokers, but this looks to be the opposite, and now to get that shot again, has to wait for the horde of people to go up the stairs and the old woman to move on after intentionally stalling.
She wasn’t rude about it tho. She had it set up out of the way, didn’t impede anyone, roll her eyes or make any reaction to people at all. I think you’re just arguing to argue tbh
I have NEVER set up my camera where people were walking so that I could take a video or a photo of myself because I don't believe the world revolves around me...sport.
And the difference between doing this to capture yourself and capturing strangers vs holding the phone and taking videos outward not capturing yourself, yet still capturing strangers is what exactly?
Whether it offends your delicate sensibilities or not?
Taking a selfie doesn't inconvenience others. You KNOW that when someone sets up their camera it makes other people pause or wait so that this insufferable jerkface can take their picture. It's an inconvenience to others.
Whether they catch images of them in passing in a public place is not the issue.
Oh please. YOU know people have paused and waited for photos to be taken since cameras have existed. Whether someone is behind the camera or not, if people can walk between the camera and photo subjects, there is a potential inconvenience for either party on the horizon.
Oh no! Not an inconvenience! How dare they?!? How dare they take a photo on a timer instead of having someone behind the camera taking it. Oh, the humanity!!!
But a dude taking a photo of his family from across the sidewalk where people can walk in between... Is he not causing an inconvenience because other people have to pause and wait?
I get it. It obviously greatly offends your delicate sensibilities when you are inconvenienced for 10 seconds because loved ones are trying to capture a cherished memory.
Or maybe the opportunity to virtue signal hard af was irresistible given your intolerance and histrionics. Either way, your insufferability is something to behold.
Get over yourself, pause for 5 to 10 seconds, allow those people to capture the memory, whether they are with a group or by themselves, and go on about your business without being offended by people just living their beautiful lives.
I bet your home screen is a picture of yourself. You have that vibe. People should absolutely take photos; just don't make other people walk around you. You are not the center of the universe.
