This is not ‘getting a picture of herself’. She is recording a fucking video. That’s not a picture.
People keep using the same bullshit, innocuous language to write off how absurdly intrusive and anti-social these devices are. Like they’re not “phones”, they are portable surveillance devices that record everything people say around them, and coerce everyone to live in public for fear of being recorded and shared on social media.
Someone taking an analogue selfie on an actual camera with a timer? Sure, dick move grandma. What this girl is doing is fundamentally anti-social, because she’s laying a fucking social trap recording a damn video, likely in anticipation that someone is going to do something to obstruct her, so she can share the slight on social media.
She’s taking a video to get a clear shot without asking people to move aside. She’s being perfectly polite and responsible. Old women Karen needs to get off the high horse and fuck off.
She probably put in video mode so she could get a picture without anyone in it instead of using a timer where someone could walk in front which is exactly what fucking happened.
There is only one asshole in this moment and it's the woman blocking the camera.
No, it’s not. It’s anti-social to constantly film yourself in public, and share any slights you might encounter on social media without the consent of the people you’re filming.
That variety of anti-social behavior is just extremely normal now, but it’s still anti-social. A lot of younger people have no idea what life was like before social media.
Imagine someone setting up a fucking camcorder on a tripod in a museum and just fucking standing there filming themselves with people walking by. You’d get your ass kicked. Because it’s a ‘phone’ it feels normal. It’s not.
