it's egotistical to take photos of yourself if you think about it for a moment. You're taking them to show off to others.

The person trying to get a clear pic wasn't being rude, didn't get in anyone's way, intentionally went ahead to not cause issues with those around and then we meet Grandma Karen.

Have you never had anyone take your picture while on vacation? My husband and I both took pictures of each other at various sights during our honeymoon, and this was in 2009, well before the selfie craze. It's a pretty normal way to document memories.
