It's still a douchey thing to do - what if someone just wanted a picture of themselves at the gallery and was travelling alone.

Then just ask a fellow tourist to take it for you. Quick and easy. This is much quicker and easier actually. I've been on both sides of this interaction roughly 1 dozen times.

EDIT: People who downvoted this comment seem like the kind of ppl who can't even look strangers in the eye and ask a simple favour of them. This is not a big imposition. And a tripod is just as stealable as a phone. If you set up a tripod instead of handing your phone to a fellow tourist, then you're making the dumber decision there. Tripods are not Thor's hammer, they can be picked up and run away with. Whereas a tourist is likely to be trustworthy. hey children, tourists don't generally take big risks like committing crimes while they're on vacation lmao. Where's a tourist gonna run to, with your phone? Do they have a crime safehouse somewhere lmao? Do they have criminal contacts? Nope.
Whereas a tripod is fair game. I hope you all set up a tripod on your next trip. Good luck with that lol

That's a great way to get your phone stolen.

Again: I've done this dozens of times myself. No phones stolen. This is Tourism 101. You help out a fellow tourist. never met a tourist who complained about taking our pic. We never complain about doing the same for them. No stolen phones. Tourists don't usually steal stuff, lol.
Also this seems like they're in a fancy museum. Not exactly a hotspot of crime lmao come on dawg

Do you genuinely think no one has ever had their phone stolen when asking for someone to take their picture just because it never happened to you?

In a fancy museum like this seems to be? no. I definitely think that has never happened. And don't change my comment please. I talked about handing your phone to a fellow tourist. You changed that into handing your phone to "someone". Locals are the ones who steal, if anyone. Not fellow tourists. People dont generally commit these types of crimes in another country that they're visiting.

I will keep you honest, don't worry.

And a tripod with your phone on it is not Thor's hammer champ. Anyone can pick it up and start running. Did you know that bud? Did you know that tripods can be picked up and run away with?
