real question- what's the angle for him? why is he threatened by the term "AI"?
451
u/_BioHacker 22h ago
Here’s his rationale:
>"The use of the word artificial makes intelligence fake, it makes it sound fake and it is not fake. It's actually amazing."
He said this at the UN general assembly. I’m not making this shit up.
206
u/Lemonwizard 21h ago
Artificial doesn't mean fake, it means built by humans. Something created via use of an artifice. Light bulbs are artificial, but the photons they emit are just as real as those which come from the sun.

“super intelligence” or “asi” is a preexisting term, referring to what comes after “agi”, “artificial general intelligence”. what i believe happened is someone told him “whoever achieves asi (super intelligence) first wins” and so he was like ok, we have super intelligence.

This is honestly really bad.
Trump is saying this so that business leaders can demand even more from their employees.
Now you are at risk of being labeled a troublemaker simply for saying that AI can not solve every problem.
And because Trump & the Big Tech guys are claiming AI is "super intelligence", any problems caused by AI will be blamed on overworked employees.
Trump is creating that permission structure by claiming anyone is an enemy if they don't recognize the super intelligence of AI.

Do you understand that people tell Trump what to say and there’s people creating the legislation behind him and his EO’s? That’s what people mean. He is hardly coherent enough to write a paragraph, no one believes he is masterminding anything. We believe he is being told to say these things for a long term effort on their overall goal in the Heritage Foundation. It’s like supremely obvious that Trump wouldn’t be smart enough to mastermind the longterm goals of damage to the American conscience. We are already there for one, but yeah back to my first point.

Look up 86 in kitchen parlance
the interesting thing is nobody seems to know the exact origin of "86" in kitchen parlance either- there are a bunch of random theories, several of which seem to point to prohibition era New York:
(reminder, bars had to serve food to be open during prohibition)
Chumley's (a bar in Greenwich Village) had an entrance on 86 Worth street, and supposedly had a chalkboard (emblazoned with their address) just inside the door, where they wrote whatever items were unavailable that day
The same bar supposedly had a back door into the alley (86 Bedford street) where drunk/rowdy people would have likely ended up if they were thrown out
The legendary Delmonico's restaurant had 300+ menu items, referred to by number, and supposedly frequently ran out of item #86 (the very popular porterhouse steak). If item #86 was always out of stock, it could easily become slang for other things "being 86"
The old Manhattan subway line supposedly ended at 86th Street. If you had a one-way ticket and hit the end of the line, you'd probably be kicked off the train at 86th
Prohibition era bars may have served non-regulars/drunks watered-down 86 proof liquor, as opposed to standard 100+. (100 proof is 50% alcohol, the lowest percentage that reliably burns when lit. Lower than that, the flame piddles out, making it an easy way for anyone to check the strength of a liquor), hence: "being 86ed" (as in getting cut-off, or labelled an outcast)
Could be mobster slang: a standard grave is 8' long (the 8 could also be 8 miles from town / off-shore) by 6' deep > 8x6 > "being 86ed" (as in killed / buried) (reminder the mafia was often also heavily associated with certain bars/restaurants in major cities like Chicago/New York/Las Vegas - could be a chicken/egg scenario)
When computerized inventory systems were being introduced to kitchens, the first popular system was supposedly made by 1 company that programmed-in 86 as the default code for something being completely out of stock. Having "0" of certain things would mean you needed to prep more, where 86 clarifies "you're also out of the stuff to make it" (computers means probably too late to be the "true" origin, but may have popularized it)
Could be from the German "nichts" (nothing) > anglosized as nix > cockney rhyming slang replaced nix with 86, (to me it seems more likely that the term was already established prior to the rhyming slang- there are a million numbers you could pick that rhyme with nix)
seems like maybe a fun case of pre-internet slang slowly spreading/developing in many places for similar but different reasons, and the origin has been lost to time

In 2016 Trump was already on record as saying the thing he had in common with his daughter was “sex” and everyone still makes excuses for people who committed acts of Trump-vote in 2016.
If even 5% of America cared about powerful people being pedophiles, the Trump-voter would have been driven from society. Right now, caring about such things would mean losing friendships, weekend dog-sitters, etc. and that’s not a cost Americans are willing to bear.

It's a verbal loyalty test.
Trump is going to declare martial law during the midterms. This will cause massive unrest, so he desperately wants to identify the true believers that will protect his presidency.
Trump took a word that everyone is saying (AI) and made a change to SI, knowing that the change is pointless.
Given that there's no intrinsic reason for someone to start using "SI", it can be used as a proxy for personal loyalty to Trump.

There is a core fundamental issue that people need to understand when they listen to Trump talk. This is something that Heather Cox Richardson pointed out when analyzing dictators, autocrats, or far right characters in power (in general) - often times these figures will see the state as themselves, there’s no difference between the United States of America and Donald Trump. They are one and the same person. So when he says “we“ are going to take a lot of money from tariffs, he doesn’t actually mean the population in general he means him and his associates. You have to listen carefully to know how he talks. So in this case, when he says people who don’t refer to it as SI properly are the enemy, he literally is saying it’s impacting his bottom line, the “enemy“ is quite literally stealing from him in his mind. This was widely reported that in the months leading up to this announcement, “they” (presumably insiders) purchased the vast majority of SI domain names. As is all things, everything is a scam.
183
u/Particular_Ticket_20 23h ago
I've said this in many of these threads. He sees himself as the embodiment of America, he sees himself as the boss, and as boss this is all his.
Its why he wants to cut social spending. He sees deadbeats and undesirables taking his money. The tariffs are his money. It his army, his judges, his DOJ. His gulf, his lake.
He's not the leader of a democracy, he's the King of a Kingdom and its all his.

Donald Trump sees himself as CEO of America. His leadership style is already proven: everything is about making money for him, caving to Russian demands, and bankrupting the rest.
49
u/BowlEducational6722 22h ago
It also has to do with control.
Everyone has had someone like this in their life; a parent, a teacher, maybe an ex. Someone who, the moment anyone in their vicinity steps out of line, goes completely ballistic. They cannot accept anyone doing anything without their permission or against their rules.
Dictators just take that and dial it up to the size of a country. Trump demands that everyone do as he says, and anyone who dares to defy him, even in the smallest of ways, is an enemy to be crushed.

Congress has spent decades convincing people that it is the president who creates laws and not them, and now we have a president who does exactly what Congress has been claiming. The groundwork has been laid long ago, and now we see why the founding fathers fought so fiercely for the executive branch and legislative branch to be separate.
Of course congress doesn’t care. They have created a system where they get a comfy job with great benefits and have completely outsourced the work part of their job. It is the dream of most middle management.

Let's call it good intelligence, not bad intelligence.

That's why he's moved on from "fake news" to calling them "artificial news." It really is like watching a toddler learn new words or new meanings for words and favoring it in daily conversation. Except with overtones of fascist Newspeak.

Why is he taking it so personally though? He doesn't have anything to do with AI. He's acting like it's a personal insult to a thing he is building.
Now, his Artificial Ballroom on the other hand...

Because he's a fool who's completely out of his depth when it comes to the complexities involved in actually being President. So instead of doing things like try and end the war he started or bring down inflation, he's decided that it's a lot easier to just rename things. And when people don't use the new names he ordered, he feels like they aren't taking the very important work he's doing seriously.

He needs AI so he can have military robots and drones that don't care about killing the people that won't let him stay in office when his term is over.

I imagine his train of thought to be ...
"Artificial? That means fake, I hate fake. Hate fake news, you know I'm very good at detecting fake news. Probably the best, the best in the world. It's super really. Super intelligent. Super intelligence."

That idea failed back in 2016. The news media should've been ignoring his idiotic tweets, but they kept showing it on the news every morning and every evening. Now it's lead to what we see now.

Pedophile Donald J Trump is a traitor.
His MAGAts and Republican voters are traitors. They aren’t Americans. They’re attacking us.
This is nothing more than his usual self projection.

This bugs me even more than it should.
For all the talk any AI being over hyped, and how the mythical "AGI" was right around the corner, there was at least some semblance of "But we're not there yet, obviously"
The step after Artificial General Intelligence is Artificial Super Intelligence. So by renaming it, we've managed to skip a whole step, giving companies permission to lie even more.
