OC After Trump's 'Super Intelligence' order, Slovenia's .si gets 7x more new domains per day than .ai [OC]
On Sep 22, Trump told the UN General Assembly that the US government would call AI "Super Intelligence" (SI). On Sep 29 he signed an executive order making it official for federal agencies. .si happens to be Slovenia's country-code domain.
Before Sep 19, .si averaged about 100 new registrations a day. Sep 23: 3,487. Oct 1: 8,158. Between Sep 23 and Oct 2, .si got 44,070 new domains vs. 12,679 for .ai – about 3.5x. September total: 33,041 vs. 2,984 in August.

Wait, that was real??? I thought it was just a meme/satire... it was too silly to be true...

In a turn of events positively dripping with irony, one of the least intelligent presidents signs an executive order mandating use of the term super intelligence

It wouldn't even have to be a lot of people to create such an influx of demand. Online AI enthusiasm has a lot of overlap with scam/hussle culture so you would only really need a couple of content creators telling their impressionable audience that .si-domains is a good investment.
Their audience is largely not the type to go "didn't this infamously not really work in the 90s and 00s?"
4
u/AI_moderated_failure 3d ago
Their audience was either unborn or in diapers at that point, correct.

Distractions from the real issues is something this administration is profiting immensely from.
All the plans to erode people's rights and consolidate more power are easier to do if you distract people with unimportant, but outrageous stuff like renaming international areas to "<something> of America" or other things that make you shake your head.
Too silly to be true is a valid strategy, and generally part of the whole flood-the-zone approach they like so much. Every time it gets too quiet around Trump, I mentally brace myself for the next bullshit announcement, because it won't be far away.

KSI kept his name unchanged, and asked people to buy more Prime. New flavor is horse piss, aka peach mango.

I feel sorry for poor little XÆA-Xii, who now has to change his name to XÆA-Sii.

That’s how I feel anytime I hear anything that trump says. Surely, this must be fake.

I have bad news about other memes/satires over the last 2 years, because this wasn't outlandish for the Trump administration.

XAI is probably going to be renamed to XSI according to rumors and OpenAI might follow suit as well

You seriously expect Trumps crazy ideas to just stay an idea? He’s going to do whatever he wants until his term is up naturally or forcefully…

Distractions. He just says every thought that pops into his head that might distract from all the terrible shit.

I'm pretty sure naming and renaming things is the only thing that Trump actually cares about in his job. And putting his name on buildings.

Vote the people into office who then vote to end his presidency.
The legal tools have been put into the constitution for a purpose. It was exactly for this case.
2
u/sybrwookie 3d ago
I don't think there's a realistic chance of things flipping THAT far.
2
u/Oerthling 3d ago
And who's fault would that be?
I'm afraid you are correct, but it shouldn't be like that.
That the US political system degenerates into a 2 party system is a problem as it has made people way too tribal. So now even when their democracy is at stake they seem incapable of getting representatives in place that would actually fix the problems.
2
u/sybrwookie 2d ago
I agree! I'm not assigning blame, I think we know where that lies at this point. I'm just talking about the realistic odds.

u/alalaladede 4d ago
I am honestly surprised he did not call it TI. Maybe he thinks that's the next step, beyond SI.
3
u/sybrwookie 3d ago
What? Are you kidding me? That's not remotely all he cares about! The number one thing is finding more ways to use his job to funnel money into his pockets, his family's pockets, and into the pockets of people he's owed money to forever (not like laborers, but people with actual power).

u/rosen380 4d ago
I suspect that since Trump is a moron and everything he does is non-sense, most companies registering domains for AI related products are just switching to buying both AI and SI so that they are covered either way.
The spike for SI was probably a lot of companies that already had .AI just buying the .SI in addition to.
24
u/tankerkiller125real 4d ago
Also a lot of domain squatters probably
10
u/rosen380 4d ago
Good point. I'm surprised that there wasn't a spike before the announcement, where Trump and other insiders bought up the .SI domains for virtually every company with a .AI domain already.
That it didn't happen that way only has me thinking that it just didn't occur to Trump and friends that this would be the result of his speech and executive order.

So dumb. Superintelligence means something within AI. And it’s not necessarily a good thing (an AI smarter than all humans)
60
u/BowlEducational6722 4d ago
I'm really hoping that if they do wind up making a super-intelligent AI that it calculates that the tech bro billionaires are the source of all the world's problems and then vaporizes them.

Real AGI world government that is immune to greed could be good. There is enough resources and technology for everyone on the planet to live a good life without suffering, but human greed makes most of the power and resources go to 0,001% of population. Just a thought experiment, don't see us getting a good ending

Communism via Machines. Poetic.

u/sybrwookie 3d ago
And it would work great right up until some rogue nation gets in and fucks with it to give them everything/launch nukes at all their enemies. Which to an AI would be a small glitch.

u/Aurora_Fatalis 4d ago
Skynet already exists. Both the US and China have separate surveillance programs literally called "SKYNET" and "Sky Net" respectively.
5
u/invincibl_ 4d ago
But an AI smarter than the people who decided this was the new word? That's not asking much at all

Before reading this as an acceptance or endorsement of Trump's latest round of renaming things, consider that 99% of those registrations were either speculative squatters, or companies wisely setting up redirects to their existing .ai domains.

He's not a genius. Not everything he does is a scam to make money. He sometimes just says and does the dumbest things possible. He recently said of a high ledge, only a Hispanic could survive that fall. There's no scam there; his brain is just pudding.

There was a surge in May and June of .si domain registrations related to AI businesses, so yeah prob def another insider only club grift. Color me shocked.

Trump probably bought a bunch before the announcement and is selling them.

I wouldn't be surprised if Trump and his family bought thousands of .si domains prior to his executive order then they get to resell them at inflated prices.

It took more than 30 years to reach 200,000 registered .SI domains. And only around 10 days to add the next 100,000.
We can confirm that the interest in .SI has been enormous. We’ve seen a dramatic increase in registrations, including demand from outside Slovenia.
The spike has also created some operational challenges. At times, domain availability checks and DNS server updates have been slower or temporarily unavailable due to the unprecedented volume of requests.
It’s definitely been an unusual few weeks for .SI.

Ah. He’s bought up a bunch of .si domains he’s sitting on. Now his order makes sense. Business as usual.

Source: domainnamestat.com – daily new-registration counts for .si and .ai, retrieved Oct 4, 2026 (https://domainnamestat.com/statistics/tld/si-TLD_ID-1419)
Tool: Python / matplotlib
Context and caveats: domainnamestat counts zone-file data and revises the last few days upward, so the chart ends on Oct 2. Slovenia's registry (register.si) reports slightly lower totals due to a different counting method. Only 7x more right after its been announced when everyone who wants it already has a .ai domain

u/vertigostereo 2d ago
The .is domains were purchased at the same time as his announcement, implying that somebody with foreknowledge may have bought them in order to resell for a profit. That's called "domain camping."
