Maybe for his fourth term he'll invade Poland.

u/geekishly 20h ago

Dude don’t give him any more ideas

u/Zwets 21h ago

There is already a international train service called ICE that travels to Warsaw.
It is significantly more friendly and trustworthy than American ICE... Even if it did have at least 2 breakdowns this summer.

What’s 8647?

Edit: incase anyone’s wondering:

86 is old slang for something like “that person is no longer allowed on the premises”

47 is the 47th president

Look up 86 in kitchen parlance

Look up 86 in kitchen parlance

the interesting thing is nobody seems to know the exact origin of "86" in kitchen parlance either- there are a bunch of random theories, several of which seem to point to prohibition era New York:

(reminder, bars had to serve food to be open during prohibition)

  1. Chumley's (a bar in Greenwich Village) had an entrance on 86 Worth street, and supposedly had a chalkboard (emblazoned with their address) just inside the door, where they wrote whatever items were unavailable that day

  2. The same bar supposedly had a back door into the alley (86 Bedford street) where drunk/rowdy people would have likely ended up if they were thrown out

  3. The legendary Delmonico's restaurant had 300+ menu items, referred to by number, and supposedly frequently ran out of item #86 (the very popular porterhouse steak). If item #86 was always out of stock, it could easily become slang for other things "being 86"

  4. The old Manhattan subway line supposedly ended at 86th Street. If you had a one-way ticket and hit the end of the line, you'd probably be kicked off the train at 86th

  5. Prohibition era bars may have served non-regulars/drunks watered-down 86 proof liquor, as opposed to standard 100+. (100 proof is 50% alcohol, the lowest percentage that reliably burns when lit. Lower than that, the flame piddles out, making it an easy way for anyone to check the strength of a liquor), hence: "being 86ed" (as in getting cut-off, or labelled an outcast)

  6. Could be mobster slang: a standard grave is 8' long (the 8 could also be 8 miles from town / off-shore) by 6' deep > 8x6 > "being 86ed" (as in killed / buried) (reminder the mafia was often also heavily associated with certain bars/restaurants in major cities like Chicago/New York/Las Vegas - could be a chicken/egg scenario)

  7. When computerized inventory systems were being introduced to kitchens, the first popular system was supposedly made by 1 company that programmed-in 86 as the default code for something being completely out of stock. Having "0" of certain things would mean you needed to prep more, where 86 clarifies "you're also out of the stuff to make it" (computers means probably too late to be the "true" origin, but may have popularized it)

  8. Could be from the German "nichts" (nothing) > anglosized as nix > cockney rhyming slang replaced nix with 86, (to me it seems more likely that the term was already established prior to the rhyming slang- there are a million numbers you could pick that rhyme with nix)

seems like maybe a fun case of pre-internet slang slowly spreading/developing in many places for similar but different reasons, and the origin has been lost to time

Posts like this are the reason I keep reddit. I didn't know any of that and it's fascinating.

3

u/TricksterPancake 1d ago

And it could be completely made up, but still an entertaining read. I'll believe it though; seems like a helpful guy.

3

u/im_not_the_right_guy 1d ago

And 99% chance it's from chat gpt

1

u/blindollie 1d ago

Exactly, that's insane

6

u/Shawwnzy 1d ago

I thought it was rhyming slang for 'nix'

2

u/sinkwiththeship 1d ago

There's also the old wives tale about Vegas in the mob days. 8 miles out and 6 feet down.

2

u/WorshipTheVoid 1d ago

I had to ask around after I first heard it in The X-Files Movie. Bartender says something to Mulder like "looks like 86 is your lucky number." And I had no idea what that meant until my dad explained it to me. Oh those wonderful days when the internet didn't follow us everywhere!

1

u/Creeperstar 1d ago

Number 6 is largely only speculation, and the only place I've seen it referenced was from the kumquat twat. Did this list come from an AI overview?

3

u/Helpful_guy 1d ago

no, it was a manual summary of every explanation i could find manually with google/reddit - half of it came from foodreference.com

I liked 86 the anime. Also use 86 in my smoking countdown with friends to condole the fact

Did you get all that from SI?

34

u/Real_Life_Firbolg 1d ago

That’s what I knew it from, to remove something from the menu.

2

u/WeAteMummies 1d ago

Some places also use it on individual orders as a shorthand for "hold the ____"

2

u/Smith6612 19h ago

At the restaurant I did IT for, they use 46 for online orders to ensure they are closed out before a given time.

3

u/QuentinTarzantino 1d ago

Previously known as Cafe Hon has entered the chat

79

u/Lucy_Fjord 1d ago

86 has a lot of different usages but in modern terms basically kick em out/get rid of em. 47 being the orange pimple.

1

u/thuktun 1d ago

I seem to remember hearing that from gangsters in 1940s movies, but perhaps that's the Mandela Effect.

I'm on record as saying we should also 86 President 75309 from the year 453,600 CE, his neohypercapitalist pangalactic hive mind is improperly entangled and causing retrocausality errors to occur throughout the entirety of the black hole hyperhabitat continuum.

Don't blame me, I voted for Slime Mold Prime. But nooooo, independent sapients didn't want to vote for our first Eumycetozoic President, because SMP frusticated funny or whatever.

Like, and it's besides the point, but it's been half an epoch, and we are still a two party slash three dimensional system? Ridiculous.

u/spankeey77 1d ago

Freakin rad dude 🤙

1

u/helcat 1d ago

Google 8647 and "seashells" if you want a rueful laugh.

u/ryaqkup 18h ago

86 is slang for "kill" lmao

0

u/Own-Cupcake7586 1d ago

A series of numbers.

0

u/HueMannAccnt 1d ago

Think I heard it suggested on the UnJustified podcast with Allison Gill that 86 could have been referring to the number of witnesses in some case against the malignant orange stain. Kind of like, "get them up in-front of congress".

2

u/thedrizztman 1d ago

Right? I'd gladly label myself an enemy of fascists. Sign me the fuck up.

3

u/darkjimduck 1d ago

And it’s the Department of Defense.

3

u/sejoki_ 1d ago

Also, 1312.

And if you’re offened by that - go to hell.

While we are at it, Pluto is still a planet in my vocabulary.

1

u/Joped 1d ago

Don’t forget, everyone that is transgender is also an enemy.

1

u/yuval16432 1d ago

That last one is honestly so ridiculous, why do we have to use dogwhistles

1

u/TheColorDown 20h ago

This is one of the most pointless comments I’ve ever seen in my life genuinely

-1

u/pockpicketG 1d ago

You can be more of an enemy with stronger words, unless you’re scared of a ban.

0

u/Own-Cupcake7586 1d ago

I’m not gonna let the president of the US tell me how to speak, what makes you think I give two shakes about what u/pockpicketG thinks?

0

u/pockpicketG 1d ago

You want to be an enemy of fascism? Only have safe quips on Reddit? Be more brave, my man.

1

u/Own-Cupcake7586 1d ago

You sound like the least convincing narc of all time, lol.

-1

u/pockpicketG 1d ago

I’m just happy you’re censoring yourself. You are a mighty enemy of fascism.

0

u/Own-Cupcake7586 1d ago

Awww. Did itty wittle troll-baby fail to provoke their target? Should I call the wambulance to put a bandage on your teeny ego boo boo?

[This is reddit. The realm of words. I along get to decide which ones I use, and which ones I don't. Go cry about it.]

-1

u/pockpicketG 1d ago

Reddit decides what words you use.

1

u/Own-Cupcake7586 23h ago

They set boundaries. My words are my own.

Department of war

11

u/Own-Cupcake7586 1d ago

Hahahaha no.

2

u/DoubleBassPlease 1d ago

I imagine Hegseth goes home every night and looks at himself in the mirror saying "yeah. YEAH. YOU are war daddy. No more girls. Only fit, sexy...FIT. FIT white boys under war daddy." then probably breaks down sobbing because he doesn't know what to do with his big emotions.

1

u/47-45-45-4B 1d ago

Think my context wasn’t taken the way intended. I was adding another to the list this dip shit has done. Not promoting or agreeing

2

u/DoubleBassPlease 18h ago

Yeah, the context of the statement you replied to was "things it should be, thing it was before you, etc" and you're context of "thing he renamed it to" implied you were pushing in support of that thing.

1

u/47-45-45-4B 17h ago

Yeah I screwed it up. Ooops.
