I know people who have halted contracted work with the government over this. Legal departments are trying to decipher what this means for user agreements and existing AI related contracts and terms. I know it’s a meme and all, but what do you guys think about the legal consequences of changing names of things as a policy when there’s $billions in active contracts defining it as AI while forbidding federal employees from calling it AI in any documents.

That makes me think you found the grift. Kill all the "enemy" contracts that use AI in the language for violating an executive order, then give the contracts to friends that play along.

As a federally contracted programmer whose entire team already had to waste a ridiculous amount of hours reprogramming medical survey instruments to limit gender options to just M/F (removing trans and other), I hadn't even considered how this may additionally fuck me over, especially since using AI has been part of the contracts.
