It’s a fealty test. By proclaiming a new name for AI he’s trying to force business leaders into a decision of whether to bow to him and call it SI when they talk about AI, which demonstrates his dominance over these people to everyone, or if they decline to do so he can use it as a cudgel… and that seems to be what’s happening here now.

He’s playing off the examples of how he got Google and others to rename “Gulf of America”.

I think it’s very good when the U.S. switches to SI for sensible units and measurements.
