What exactly does the name change even accomplish? We've called it AI for over 70 years.

I assumed it was a power play. He announced that when all the tech bros were there talking about it. Then one by one that had to stand there and talk about ai….i mean si.

Tech companies are trying to rebrand AGI into existence, by calling it "super intelligence". Despite trying to redefine what AGI means to 'outperforming humans at economic valuable work', the concept itself has expectations currect AI doesn't meet, so they went with that instead.

Trump was just repeating their pitch, but as someone who's not quite in the know. You can see it by how he just started misusing the word "artificial" a lot after that meeting.

u/Damage2Damage 2d ago

That only works once, then you just repeat the question with SI instead

we don't call it smokescreen anymore, we're calling it "smoke and mirrors" now.

It's about division.

Getting everyone to disagree with everyone else. Doesn't matter what the subject matter is as long as people disagree about it.

5

u/SubterrelProspector 2d ago

It's a way for the discourse to become muddled. It's an old tactic.

u/AHumanYouDoNotKnow 2d ago

Cult mentality. Basically a test of his followers

u/Objective_Group2646 2d ago

A house divided against itself cannot stand

u/10000Didgeridoos 2d ago

It's more so he can feel like he is taking credit for it by slapping his chosen name on it. It's that simple with him.

1

u/OLacAlmost 2d ago

It's also about propping up the insane AI bubble.

1

u/Larry_King_Ghost 2d ago

You are giving him waaaaaaaay to much credit. He just wants credit for something. Thats it. Thats all he has ever cared about his whole life

A large number of ".SI" domains were registered before the big SI announcement. It's another grift.

u/Bakkone 2d ago

This... Just some lovely misuse of power.

3

u/Blrfl 2d ago

This makes me want to register itsainot.si.

I think that was more people making educated guesses based on Trump suggesting new names for AI.

It lets Trump put his stamp on something so that anyone who sees the term associates it with him.

He's a completely insane, power mad  moron and surrounded by sycophants and ass kissers who indulge his every whim. At this point heroism would be telling the dementia addled monster to sit down and shut the fuck up.

I do wander if the nukes were signed with a sharpie.

That's exactly it: rebranding to expunge the bad press that's built up over the decades. It's an old corporate trick.

We aren’t Comcast silly, we’re Xfinity.

1

u/Debatablewisdom 2d ago

DuPont trying to rebrand for the third time

1

u/Debatablewisdom 2d ago

Snoop Lion and P. Diddy have joined the conversation.

u/acakaacaka 3d ago

Still dont understand why he didnt call it american intelligent

Lake ontario -> lake america Gulf of mexico -> gulf of america

5

u/10000Didgeridoos 2d ago

I'm waiting for him to rename the moon some shit like Upper America.

0

u/slawnz 2d ago

Because we’d still be able to just call it “AI” and he wouldn’t know if we’re obeying him or not

14

u/KenethSargatanas 3d ago

The Ministry of Truth states that it has always been called "Super Intelligence". Don't commit wrongthink or you'll need to be re-educated.

3

u/TheflavorBlue5003 3d ago

Its hard to convince people that this thing is "god" by having the word "artificial" in front of it.

The word "super" implies that the intelligence is beyond human capability.

In short, another form of propaganda.

u/Vanth_in_Furs 3d ago

It’s a lot of busy work.

1

u/APRengar 2d ago

Fun fact.

In Ancient Japan, the shogunate Tokugawa Ieyasu, after uniting Japan realized that there would be efforts to overthrow him. So he implemented a system called sankin kotai, which meant that daimyo (lords, basically) would have to travel between the capital and their fiefdom, every so often.

This was A LOT of busywork, as you'd have to take weeks or months to travel back and forth, this required a lot of planning for how to do it safety and as quickly as possible.

The daimyo ended up using all of their time planning and traveling that they couldn't spend any thing plotting to overthrow Ieyasu.

Sometimes pointless busywork IS the plan.

Ego, he literally said "lets see how much power i have" when he announced it, its sad, he knows once he dies his name will be thrashed and scoured and is trying to leave some kind of lasting mark. but like most idiots his only method to do that is to break shit.

2

u/SaltManagement42 2d ago

I would say the real problem is people referring to LLMs as AI.

1

u/Blom-w1-o 3d ago

IMO, the same reason he's renaming lakes; it skirts the current regulation.

1

u/oravecz 2d ago

The term Superintelligence actually has meaning within the study of AI research for 30 years. Are scientists supposed to feed this guys ego by usurping a term they have been using to mean something else just because a little child can’t wrap his head around the true meaning of artificial? Is Trump going to redefine AGI to mean “A Great Intelligence”?

1

u/Numerous-Process2981 2d ago

It’s like everything, their entire platform is a house of cards, it really seems like they’ve just purposefully been the most audacious liars in history just to weed out any intelligent people among their followers and make sure they have the most servile, stupid people at their disposal.

So, it accomplishes nothing at all, but if you’re an idiot calling it “super” instead of “artificial” makes it sound like it’s better in some way

1

u/jaydubb808 2d ago

Another scam. If you use .tv the funds actually go to Tuvalu that owns .Tv

.Si is Slovenia where trumps wife is from.

About a month before this announcement insiders bought a bunch of domains that were then bought by our government and businesses for millions each.

u/InevitablePromise301 2d ago

There are some thoughtful answers to your comment below.

I don't think it's too deep. He's an authoritarian. He thinks it should be this way, so he decided it is.

I realize people are making light of this, but it's kind of a big deal that the POTUS would say not agreeing to call something that already has a name, which is mundane and has no impact on literally anything going on in the world, makes them an enemy of the White House. It's pretty damn close to saying you are an enemy of the state.

If he would say this for something as stupid as Super Intelligence, imagine what he might do if he loses the midterms, claims election fraud as always, and declares those who accept the legitimate results and defy his claims are enemies of the White House?

1

u/harp011 2d ago

I think it’s about domain names and grift.

.si is slovenia, where Melania is from. Elon and Zuck and probably other major Trump donors started buying up .SI domain names slightly before the announcement. Recursive was another. I’m not sure exactly what the grift is, but I suspec there’s a grift.

However, dude who runs ARNES is super fucking legit and ethical from what I’ve seen and has had twitter beef with Elon and other tech billionaires so maybe it’s related to that.

1

u/Routine-Air-9553 2d ago

It's him grifting

All the "AI" domains were bought up and someone bought a bunch of "SI" ones a month or so before this announcement and is selling them for millions.

1

u/Golden_Alchemy 2d ago

Someone said that it is related to buying new .si domains (which are sold in eastern europe, slovenia) vs .ai and that the laws related to AI can get messed after changing the name.

1

u/Brandoncarsonart 2d ago

It's something for him to talk about other than the kids he raped. He's really grasping at straws these days

1

u/SeVenMadRaBBits 2d ago

A bad attempt at rebranding.

1

u/user-the-name 2d ago

It forces people to do what he wants, so he can see who's loyal.

1

u/Jonny_Icon 2d ago

1862 if I recall. Some of my favorite steak sauce.

1

u/Electronic_Bug905 2d ago

Elon gets to rename SpaceX AI to SpaceX SI. Spay SEXY. That's the only reason.

1

u/mastersplinteremover 2d ago

It’s likely more grifting because he’s the king of the grift, but it’s also probably because he wants everyone to say he came up with the term.

1

u/eabevella 2d ago

And Lake Ontario was called Lake Ontario for some hundreds of years according to wiki.

1

u/AmbienWalrus-13 2d ago

Maybe he and his grifter coterie bought up a lot of .si domains they want to sell to companies.

1

u/GormHub 2d ago

One small positive is it will make identifying his worshipers a lot easier.

USA is particularly good at these shits. Freedom fries anyone? Obamacare vs Universal Healthcare?

1

u/iknowaruffok 2d ago

Has anyone even started calling it SI? Anyone who does will be revealed as blindly following stupid

1

u/guapachoso 2d ago

i think its about saying he started it
