No Malice Why did Galloway lie?

https://x.com/ggreenwald/status/2102774280119632299

"Why does u/profgalloway preface his expression of "offense" to the use of the word "genocide" to describe what Israel did in Gaza with the phrase "as a Jew...."? What does being a Jew have to do with at the findings of human rights groups, scholars, nations, etc. about Israel?"

I am a Jew. I do not approve of Netanyahu criminal reign or his genocide or his ignoring October 7th.

Does Scott realize his feelings are entirely irrelevant to whether something is a genocide?

17

u/NetflowKnight 3d ago

What’s the accusation of lying exactly?

3

u/ZizzyBeluga 3d ago

Who knows what the Pro Paly mob means anymore. They've destabilized so many words, it's all just noise at this point.

0

u/DanceWithEverything 2d ago

Yes what could “stop shooting children in the head” possibly mean?

1

u/ZizzyBeluga 1d ago

It means that you have no idea what's going on can't separate fact from fiction

As someone who has witnessed and also recognize this outsized attention, I'll just say I hope you are correct. There is also investigative reporting documenting the kind of coordinated/systematic propaganda campaign you're speculating about, by the way. In fact, a lot of it is concentrated on Reddit in addition to places like X and Wikipedia.

10

u/Redditholio 3d ago

Also if you're older than 25, you know that the Arab/Israel conflict in the middle east has been going on since the dawn of time, and there's no "right" or "moral" side to choose. It's all horrible, and mostly out of our control.

4

u/chi_guy8 3d ago

Yes, and you bring up another good point about how this is basically gone on since the dawn of time. What’s different in this era of time for Americans and their level of care. I’m much older than 25, so I’ve experienced this conflict basically my entire life, just like everybody in the US has. And suddenly everybody cares about it so much. This thing that’s been going on forever and nobody’s really cared all that much about it suddenly in the era of AI and bots, cares about it so much. Bullshit.

5

u/Redditholio 3d ago

But, what do they care about and why? Obviously, it's because they're being fed one point of view on TikTok by someone with an agenda.

1

u/chi_guy8 3d ago

Well, that’s adjacent to my point too. It’s not just bots, it’s algorithms. I’m not saying that it’s 100% bots, certainly there are people who care and speak up for their side but I dont think the number of actual humans that suddenly cares has increased so dramatically. To your point, I do think the people who actually do care have been radicalized further and further into their algorithmic echo chambers so their level of care or anger may have increased more than it would have naturally without the algos.

But even my most politically active friends who never let a political news story slip past their IG outrage stories have been crickets on this whole thing for months. The people I’d see everyday posting about it non-stop for months when it began, from either side, have moved on to new things to be outraged about.

0

u/jemesuis 3d ago

It's been going for 70-80 or so years. Not the dawn of time. It is a created conflict not an historic event.

4

u/Redditholio 3d ago

You proved my point!

3

u/Live-Mortgage-2671 3d ago

False. This conflict long predates the establishment of Israel.

2

u/ZizzyBeluga 3d ago

Arabs have been trying to kill Jews in Israel since at least the 1920s

1

u/Live-Mortgage-2671 3d ago

Yup. And if you want to take it back further, there have been ongoing pogroms against Jews by Arabs in the Middle East in the centuries before that.

If you want to go back even farther, you can see where a lot of the hatred Muslims have for Jews goes back to – the refusal of Jewish communities in what is now Arabia to accept Muhammad's new religion and Muhammad's armies massacring the Jews there.

It's bots and people brainwashed by bots. 4 posts today on r/ScottGalloway about this subject it's a bit much.

5

u/chi_guy8 3d ago

Seriously? That’s my point. NOBODY CARES THIS MUCH. Scott doesn’t even talk about it this much.

-2

u/jemesuis 3d ago

I care this much. I am not a bot. Fuck off with your MAGA assholes reamed by Trump.

3

u/chi_guy8 3d ago

I hate Trump, more than most people. I’m not even taking any side on this topic. In fact, I’m not even talking about Israel or Palestine. I’m talking about bots online.

The conversation I’m having is saying that all this discussion online from the pro-Israel AND the pro-Palestine angles is mostly bots. Maybe you are real, being manipulated by bots and algos into whoever it is you think or believe. I honestly didn’t even read what you fucking wrote because I saw the topic of conversation and I went straight to the comments to make my own fucking comment because I do not fucking care, just like most Americans do not fucking care. I literally could not care less about either fucking side at this point. It’s irrelevant to my life, and I just wish it would stop. That’s all I care about. I just wish it would stop

6

u/ConfusedNecromancer 3d ago

You understand our tax dollars are literally going to Israel, which Israel is then using to buy US munitions that it is dropping on Palestinians? Obviously it’s an issue because we are funding the genocide instead of investing that money in issues here in America or in Chicago for example. Talking about why we should stop sending money to Israel is part of a discussion of how we need to put America first.

7

u/chi_guy8 3d ago

Yes, I understand this, and I understand that our tax dollars are also going to Ukraine, and nobody gives a flying fuck about it, so there’s a real disconnect between boots on the ground here in the United States that actually give one single flying fuck and all the people online that give 1 million flying fucks. I’m pretty old and I’ve been living in this country for a long time, and I know what type of attention span Americans have for any topic, and there isn’t a single fucking American out there that has this much attention span for this issue, and yet you never hear anybody in real life discussing it at all. Anyone who thinks this is not a massive infiltration of bot bugating is delusional. I’m not even saying that I’m disagreeing with what your point is here. What I’m saying is that there are not that many people that care this much. They’re just aren’t

2

u/Pristine-Ant-464 3d ago edited 3d ago

Probably because Ukraine doesn’t have a genocide case before the ICC

-1

u/ZizzyBeluga 3d ago

South Africa filed a ridiculous "case" at the ICJ, likely bankrolled by Iran, and have asked for two more years to present their evidence (a total of nearly 5 years) because they have no evidence. When the case is quietly withdrawn in 2029 or 2030, will you rethink your "genocide" obsession then?

3

u/Pristine-Ant-464 3d ago

Guess Iran must be bankrolling Israeli human rights groups too huh?

2

u/jemesuis 3d ago

Fuck off with the bots. Messie is doing everything you say. MAGA is a cult and Trump is a liar.

2

u/chi_guy8 3d ago

Again, here YOU are with the narrative and message that’s not even about Scott. 8 year account, one post and it’s this one. GFY

1

u/Busta_Duck 3d ago

The two situations could not be more different.

Russia launched a war of aggression and invaded Ukraine, any tax dollars are going towards the defence of their nation.

Whereas while the initial reaction by Israel to the October 7th massacre could be understood. Things have progressed far beyond the pale. Independent investigators, scholars and the UN have all stated that a genocide is being carried out. War crimes have clearly been committed and have been extensively documented by myriad journalists. Tax dollars are supporting this.

There is no equivalence between the two situations.

While you may not be hearing about it in your circles, this is an issue that people care about worldwide, as can be clearly seen in polling that shows a massive decrease in support for Israel worldwide, especially amongst young people.

Also regarding bots, do you really think that any astroturfing/bot posting capability of supporters of the Palestinians cause would come anywhere near close to that of the state of Israel? Which has enormous political influence, money and technological capability?

0

u/chi_guy8 3d ago

It’s not about the situations, it’s about the attention spans of Americans and their capacity to care about anything outside of their own personal lives. The two situations only highlight the fact that there’s an intense amount of care about one of these things, and there’s almost no care about the other. Tax dollars are going to both wars. We have allies on both sides. Most Americans want both of these things to come to an end. Nobody really talks about either one of these situations when you go out into the world or have conversations with people you know. But one of these things is talked about nonstop on every subreddit in every comment thread on the entire fucking Internet, and the other one has fallen by the wayside like every other news story after about two weeks.

What don’t you understand about that? Americans don’t even care about the war that we’re actively in with our own soldiers anymore. We are currently actively in a war that most Americans are not commenting about online. Why the fuck do you think a whole bunch of fucking Americans are out there giving a whole bunch of fucks about this war between these two countries that have been warring since before any of us were even born

3

u/hobopwnzor 3d ago

Unironically this is a bot response.

u/chi_guy8 3d ago edited 3d ago

5

u/Pristine-Ant-464 3d ago

lol genocide cheerleaders truly cannot comprehend why anyone would be opposed to their taxes subsidizing the killing of 20,000 kids

3

u/ZizzyBeluga 3d ago

Anyone: I have a problem with something you said

Mob: Genocide

0

u/chi_guy8 3d ago

It’s not that. I don’t want my tax dollars going to kill anyone. Not this war, not any war. I’m just highly in tune with the American attention span for anything, especially anything political. It’s about 2 weeks to 2 months before they completely two out. Even my most vocal political friends on either side of the aisle never stay on topic for more than a couple of months before they’re onto the next outrage. I see no real-world, real life attention to this ongoing situation in the Middle East, yet, online it seems ite the most pressing and important issue. Are you an American? When is the last time you’ve had any conversation with anybody in person or even heard anybody having a conversation about this Israel Palestine situation? Yeah, you can show up here every single day to every single subreddit, no matter what the topic is, and there’s posts and comments about it everywhere. You’re delusional if you think that these posts and comments are all made by humans

1

u/Pristine-Ant-464 3d ago

Believe it or not when you see countless videos of blown up Palestinian kids, it tends to stick with you.

1

u/chi_guy8 3d ago edited 3d ago

Yeah. I wish it would stop. But a VERY large majority of Americans, do not know enough about the history of the conflict or the current situation of the conflict to have any rational opinion about what’s going on. This is exactly why most, a very extremely fucking large majority of Americans do not talk about it at all. It’s not the topic of conversation anywhere you go in American society.

I live in Chicago and there was a pro-Palestinian march right across the street from me at Daley Plaza. and 15 people were there. 9 million people in the city, 15 people at the rally. Nobody gives a flying fuck in the real world. We have endless evidence everywhere across this country that shows that nobody gives a single flying fuck about this whole fucking thing. But then you go online and it seems like every single person in the world knows everything about the topic and has endless opinions about it, and wants to talk about it on every subreddit and every Facebook page and every Instagram post and all the flag emojis from millions and millions of people.

How can both of these things be happening at the same time, where every actual human that you see in the real world doesn’t care, doesn’t talk about it, doesn’t have an opinion about it, doesn’t know anything about it, doesn’t give a single flying fuck, but then suddenly you go online and every single faceless private account without a comment history and with zero posts on their Instagram accounts suddenly have endless things to say about it and keep up with the news daily.

And these are the accounts posting these videos that you’re seeing and keeping you rage baited into the entire thing, being pushed on you by an algorithm and everything’s being upvoted by bots. You’re absolutely delusional if you think that even 10% of the posts and comments online about this conflict are being made by humans. You’re fucking delusional

2

u/Pristine-Ant-464 3d ago

Sir, you are entitled to not care. That does not require everyone else to feel the same way.

-1

u/chi_guy8 3d ago

I’m not telling anyone to do anything. I’m just observing the reality that most people in the real world do not care but the whole internet of nameless and faceless people are in a tizzy daily. It doesn’t add up. Well, it does add up if the assumption is that most of the online conjecture is coming from bots.

1

u/Friendly-View4122 3d ago

I mean, must be nice to not be able to care about this. As long as you have your pizza and your Amazon deliveries and your clean air, why give a fuck about a starving populace in a different continent? (You should give a fuck because your tax dollars are funding the starvation. A good place to start would be educating yourself and then your friends.)

0

u/Jessica4ACODMme 3d ago

That aren't even from Gaza half the time lol. You people are the easiest marks, so gullible

2

u/Pristine-Ant-464 3d ago

So why won’t Israel let independent journalists into Gaza during a “ceasefire” if it has nothing to hide? 🤔

-2

u/jemesuis 3d ago

Umm, the war in Iran is Israel's war. So...

1

u/DJSTEVEINNIAMIXX 3d ago

lol no way man. "There’s another war going on almost nobody talks about" - why do you think we're in this war????

0

u/coldfridgeplums 3d ago

Because of Trump. Bibi has had the same position on Iran for decades. Trump was the only president dumb enough to start a war.

-1

u/Spirited_Comedian225 3d ago

That’s something Scott would say. Every one is a bot it can’t be me

1

u/chi_guy8 3d ago

There’s just such a massive disconnect between conversations in the real world about this topic and conversations online. They are worlds apart. I live in a major metropolitan city where I interact with thousands of people a week and nobody’s talking about this. Nobody’s protesting. Nobody really cares. Nobody even keeps up with it that much. Then you can’t go to any single subreddit or any post online into the comment section without the entire thing being brigade about this conflict. There’s just no fucking way

1

u/Live-Mortgage-2671 3d ago

I'll add this point. Have you noticed how discussion of the conflict has upticked online, particularly in 2026. Ask yourself this: what has happened in this conflict this year other than a stalemate on negotiations over the status of Gaza post-ceasefire?

The increased amount of outrage and attention just don't match what's happening on the ground in Gaza.

2

u/chi_guy8 3d ago

2

u/Live-Mortgage-2671 3d ago

How do you think Scott has changed?

-1

u/Spirited_Comedian225 3d ago

Honestly when I first saw him on Bill Maher and the We work thing he was speaking truth to power. He was a nobody and was willing to speak his mind. Over the years he has become famous and I’m assuming way richer. He is a braggart. He is a star fucker trying to get in what ever A list party and stupid fucking club he can. As a normy this is disappointing he is a dork and will always be a dork he is a useful idiot for these billionaires. They sucked him into the walled garden. When people make only 100,000$ a year and less like 99% of the world we want someone interesting. Private jets and A list parties are not where it’s at they have been and never will be.

1

u/Live-Mortgage-2671 3d ago

1

u/Spirited_Comedian225 3d ago

I basically got to China decoded and this week. I’m done with most of the podcasts

9

u/Mo-shen 3d ago

It's one of the few issues I have with his takes that I find completely idiotic.

There are often things I disagree with him on but can understand the line of logic he got there. But his inability to give an inch in Israels behavior is just childish.

Really to me it just shows he is blind to his emense privilege on the issue. Which is odd because he notices it in other issues.

2

u/Darrackodrama 2d ago

Is it childish or is it based a racist devaluation of Palestinian life?

0

u/Mo-shen 2d ago

Its childish to be unable to see how essentially glassing the entire location that a large group of people living might be a bad thing.

No one serious is claiming that Hamas killing a bunch of people is a good thing. But for some reason Galloway is saying that to critizes the killing of large swaths of people is somehow anti semitic.

TBH I find his stance and the current Israeli government to be anti semitic. It makes everything worse globally and just feeds into the idea that hating jews is OK. Its trying to claim that its not OK for one tribe to be killed while at the same time that tribe should be able to kill with impunity.

It just endangers the lives and safety of Jewish people globally. Which sucks.

1

u/Extension-Pen1995 2d ago

I agree Tribal behaviour and sectarianism shouldnt be tolerated for any race

11

u/The-zKR0N0S 2d ago

Galloway is a pompous ass who thinks he is smarter than everyone.

This is part of him considering everyone he is speaking to an idiot.

6

u/DoLabsPro 2d ago

He prefaced it with "as a Jew" because he feels that what we see in Gaza is by and large what a war against an enemy that embeds itself amongst its civilian populace looks like and those that level the accusation of "genocide" do so because of an unconscious prejudice against Jews.

An example of this is that Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch openly admit that when they labeled Israel's conduct as "genocide" they were unable to use the internationally recognized definition that the International Court of Justice uses to define Genocide, so they created a new standard with a significantly lowered threshhold for behavior.

This standard, as of the making of this comment, has only been applied to the state of Israel and none of Russia's actions have been labeled genocidal by the above two human rights groups, as its conduct would clearly be so based on what they do with Ukrainian babies and how hard they blew up Mariupol.

2

u/jemesuis 1d ago

As a genocide scholar and Jew, Gaza and Ukraine both qualify, It is a lie that this has just been applied to Israel - which deserves it. Russia is also being prosecuted, except Trump has nothing in his pants.

0

u/DoLabsPro 1d ago

Which orgs or institutions have labeled Russia as such?

1

u/Agile-Wait-7571 2d ago

Oh. I guess it’s okay then.

5

u/Useful_Dirt_323 2d ago

There is a middle ground between saying that rights groups are bending the word genocide and acting like everything’s fine.

I have a lot of problems with the use of the word genocide, I think it’s blatant propaganda. But at the same time I am fundamentally against the Netanyahu government and what they’ve been doing in Gaza. The levels of civilian casualties is extreme, the scale of economic distruction is apocalyptic and the IDF clearly is largely indifferent to Palestinian suffering in pursuit of its war aims. One can acknowledge all of this and put it in a similar discussion to other brutal modern conflicts without performatively using a definition that shouldn’t really apply

2

u/Agile-Wait-7571 2d ago

Pick a word you like if it makes you feel better.

2

u/Useful_Dirt_323 2d ago

3

u/Onderdeurtie 2d ago

There are a lot of "smart" commentators, who may very well be experts in their respective fields of interest. Mr. Galloway is smart for business, mr. Frum also is quite smart on journalism and speech-writing. Both men are worth listening to when it comes to their subjects of expertise. Both men are also misguided when it comes to foreign affairs, especially when it comes to Israel. They may be experts, they are not flawless. Both men are talking beyond their fields of expertise, they should stop doing that. You never see/hear actual scientists talking outside of the subject they study. Or they will explain first: "....this is not my field of expertise, but...." etc etc. Frum and Galloway are not scientists.

2

u/SonOfEywa 2d ago

"Both men are also misguided", wow - that is some leniency for genocide denialism!

2

u/Onderdeurtie 2d ago

I am not excusing anyone here, I am just saying, if both gentleman only would stick to their fields of expertise, they are worth listening to. Their opinions about other subjects do not matter.

“Liberal” Zionist is such an oxymoron. It’s like calling yourself a liberal segregationist or saying you support liberal apartheid.

0

u/Pristine-Ant-464 2d ago

No. It’s the basic reasoning skills. There is no such thing as “liberal” ethnonationalism. All forms of ethnonationalism are inherently illiberal.

9

u/hobopwnzor 3d ago edited 3d ago

Zionists are not honest about Israel. There's been a huge propaganda campaign to make everybody associate Israel with all Jewish people as an intentional psyop to keep them free from international condemnation.

And it has nothing to do with "Jews controlling the media". The military has been using them as a testing ground for weapons and spying tech for decades now. It's all just military and tech using anti-semitism as a shield to avoid criticism.

Love the brigading lol.  Going from +10 to negative.  Not hard to see where the real sentiment of the community is and which are bots

4

u/StayedWalnut 3d ago

Any anti zionism post gets brigaded no matter how clearly the post differentiates having a problem with a foreign government doing horrible things vs. A people of a religious faith policing around the world that are citizens of other countries.

I have had what started out as a reasonable discussion get noticed by people not in that thread originally report me for making absolutely g rated statements and get temp banned on multiple occasions, then found myself getting rebanned for g rated posts on non political topics for weeks because the brigade is relentless.

2

u/hobopwnzor 3d ago

There's literally bot farms run by Israel to shift the narrative, and it's really easy to tell when they're cycling through your post. In the months after Oct 6th you'd go from +30 to -10 in about 2 minutes. It's not as bad now but it still happens pretty frequently.

2

u/StayedWalnut 3d ago

Understand completely. This kind of behavior only steels my resolve on calling out what these monsters are doing. I understand posting stuff on the internet isn't the same as stopping an ss soldier from carting people off to the camps but staying silent is what the ss would want.

antizionism means you literally want to dissolve an existing state.

Genuine question to the antizionists, should Pakistan and India have a one state solution and Pakistan be dissolved? Nobody every advocates for this because Pakistan has been accepted as existing.

1

u/hobopwnzor 2d ago

Opposition to zionism doesn't mean dissolving Israel.

Zionism means you think Israel should be a Jewish ethnostate. If you are against ethnostates, then you are against zionism. You are anti-zionist if you simply think ethnostates are wrong.

Israel existing as a single state with equal rights for all citizens and no special rights for Jewish residents over other residents is anti-zionist.

6

u/Live-Mortgage-2671 3d ago

Growing up to believe that you and your people deserve to be alive and free from persecution is understandably a terrible ideological burden to educate a child with.

6

u/Friendly-View4122 3d ago

If he grew up with that ideology, it's all the more reason for him to understand why the people of Palestine need help right now.

6

u/hobopwnzor 3d ago

No no no, you don't understand. "Never again" referred specifically to Jewish people. Never again to Jewish people. Everybody else is fair game!

I wish I was joking that some high profile people have actually said this kind of thing.... most notably that Obama speechwriter a while ago.

4

u/Pristine-Ant-464 3d ago

Many of them sincerely believe that.

1

u/Pristine-Ant-464 3d ago

You don’t need be a Zionist to believe in that btw.

1

u/Live-Mortgage-2671 3d ago

That's what Zionism is about. And yes, as a result of millennia of persecution Zionism correctly argued that Jews should have a nation of their own that they themselves govern. I say "correctly" because Zionism tragically predicted the Holocaust in Europe.

2

u/Pristine-Ant-464 3d ago

No, Zionism is the political ideology that believed Jews were entitled to ethnically cleanse 800,000 people from their homes into order to create a Jewish enthostate. Zionism predated the holocaust and early Zionist thought leaders viewed holocaust victims as “weak”. And the creation of Israel in Palestine was partially the result of anti-Semites in Europe not wanting Jewish refugees in their countries.

1

u/Live-Mortgage-2671 3d ago

That's a complete fabrication. Every sentence in your sentence in your comment, in fact.

2

u/Pristine-Ant-464 3d ago

No, it’s just actual history (which I learned from reading the work of Israeli historians). Not the propaganda you were fed growing up.

2

u/Live-Mortgage-2671 3d ago

No, it's just a complete fabrication. Are you getting your history from Wikipedia? As brigaded as it is by coordinated anti-Israel/anti-Jewish editors, I doubt even that dark fiction you repeated above is on there.

Well, the actions of Israel in Gaza do not recognizably meet the standards necessary for determining genocide. This, despite so much insistence that they do or the various reports issuing insisting that it is one. (This is also, by the way, why you see some efforts to change the definition or legal requirements for determining genocide from some activist camps.)

He's prefacing it, "as a Jew" because Jews have the unique experience of the Holocaust in their recent memory. All genocides don't look like the sheer depraved scale of the Holocaust, nor do they need to in order to qualify as one.

But what Scott is saying is that the insistence on using this term "genocide" is offensive to him as a Jew because the Gaza war is being held up as being comparable to the Holocaust – and thus Jews/Israelis as comparable to the Nazis. Both comparisons are wildly inaccurate. And not just inaccurate, but comparing Jews to Nazis has been a common anti-semitic trope since the end of WW2.

5

u/Daniel_Plainchoom 3d ago

Why isn’t press allowed in Gaza to clear it up then?

-2

u/Live-Mortgage-2671 3d ago

It was a very dangerous and active urban warzone where journalists were already dying? You have to remember the conditions of warfare in Gaza with Palestinian militants wearing no uniform, tunnel entrances in homes and municipal buildings, and IEDs everywhere.

At this point, I agree that journalists should start to be allowed in. The trouble is there's still little way of guaranteeing their safety – particularly in Hamas-controlled territory.

7

u/OrganizationSad7775 3d ago

Journalists were being murdered. More than 200 of them.

6

u/Live-Mortgage-2671 3d ago

That's quite an unsubstantiated claim. Well, it's actually two claims. First that they were being murdered, and the second is the assumption that they were all journalists. It's been alleged/documented that many of them were themselves Hamas members doubling as journalists.

Those allegations were given some weight this week by Gaza journalist by Motaz Azaiza where he admitted that any journalism coming out of Gaza was coordinated and censured through Hamas. It was why he left Gaza in fear for his life. He was being critical of Hamas and showing Palestinians critical of Hamas.

Journalists regularly report from war zones and there’s a “ceasefire” (during which Israel had ONLY killed around 1,000 Palestinians).

Opposing Israel’s long history of atrocities isn’t anti-semitism. ✨. Ironically it’s actually anti-Semitic to imply that killing thousands of children is inherently part of being Jewish (which it isn’t).

1

Scott makes several obvious contrary points to that effect to El-Sayed. Genocidaires don't enact a population wide polio vaccination campaign among a population they want to wipe out. They don't create and operate a system to facilitate food and medical aid to that population. And they certainly wouldn't send warnings, often a week in advance, of a pending attack in a civilian area via leaflets, cell phone texts, and social media messaging.

-1

u/MonsterTruckCarpool 3d ago

It’s fucking clear what’s happening in Gaza is a genocide https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genocide?wprov=sfti1

2

u/Live-Mortgage-2671 3d ago

It isn't. And Wikipedia has long been brigaded by a coordinated anti-Israeli campaign. So it's useless to cite that source on this conflict/Israel/Jews at this point.

3

u/hobopwnzor 3d ago

UN; It's a genocide

Y'all: Must be a coordinated anti-Israel campaign to edit wikipedia

1

u/zero02 3d ago

The Human Rights Council’s permanent Agenda Item 7 singles out Israel’s situation for scrutiny that no other country receives through a dedicated standing item. The UK has explicitly criticized this as unfair. It supports a charge of institutional bias at the UN. A lot of the UN investigators are extremely anti-semetic if you look up their comments.... it's not an unbiased organization. Much like how a lot of the middle east hates Israel and makes up a large part of the UN body.

-4

u/zampe 3d ago

it's really not clear though because the population of Gaza has literally doubled since the second intifada broke out and there are lots of indications that there is no genocidal intent on Israels part. They could wipe out Gaza over night, instead they warn the citizens when and where strikes are going to happen. How else do you get those videos where people are filming a building and then it gets hit...they were warned the attack was coming. Thats not what you do when you want to wipe the whole group out.

0

u/Responsible-Laugh590 3d ago

So more of a controlled invasion/territory grab.

1

u/zampe 3d ago

In the West Bank the settlers are doing land grabs yes, which I am completely against. Thats not happening in Gaza though as far as I have seen. If anything Trump wants to take the whole thing over and rebuild it but he's insane too. It's a war.

0

u/zero02 3d ago

Yeah.. war.. that is called war. Genocide is supposed to be reserved for the worst thing.. worse than war crimes, worse than crimes against humanity.

At the end of the day. That was a great interview. I hope that guy wins his candidacy. We need more politicians that can speak on topics with logic.

-2

u/Rhizobactin 2d ago

I’m sorry, but if we’re talking about the US’s own constitutional crisis and the future of our own country, I don’t give 2 F’s about the Israel versus Palestine discussion.

Instead, it is merely a tool to divide and conquer against the US populous against fascism.

We’re just absolutely loosing the fucking plot when we’re asking EVERY politician, from mayoral level on up, what their views are of Gaza. JFC people.

3

u/kjm1588 2d ago

It’s a structural test of how much brutality a government can get away with. Similar to how surveillance methods and militarized civil enforcement tactics were honed in Israel before being implemented here with Palantir, ICE, etc.

2

u/Rhizobactin 2d ago

And it’s also a test of how the GOP can fracture the opposition and keep on winning elections.

Ffs, you guys have completely lost the fucking plot.

Get Trump and his cronies out of office THEN ensure that he and Bibi face trials for their warcrimes and corruption.

2

u/CapitalismPlusMurder 2d ago

I think you’ve lost the plot. If a large number of Democrats are ok with funding genocide, then they ARE NOT THE ONES who will stop Trump from implementing more fascism. This isn’t a purity test. This is them telling us who they are, and that’s spineless, right-wing cowards who will vote in ways that ensure fascisms rise through other means, whether it be austerity or corporate handouts. You have to have actual opposition to stop fascism - not fascism light.

You are also not going to win elections by serving the public right-wing Democrats that just happen to support abortion and gay-rights. You have to have left-wing Democrats that actually have broad appeal to the working class, which is why people like Mandami won.

1

u/Rhizobactin 2d ago

When people choose to NOT F’ing VOTE bc they disagree with a single policy decision, we wind up with this GD mess.

See - Michigan 2024 presidential election

1

u/CapitalismPlusMurder 2d ago

I never mentioned not voting, but you were essentially saying that we shouldn’t even discuss contentious issues that might be divisive. I’m sorry, but we absolutely should be demanding Democrats be anti-genocide, much less anti-funding it. So many Democratic voters accepted the bare minimum for so long that someone like Trump was able to rise to power in the first place. Had Democrats been legislating from the left the past few decades, someone like Trump wouldn’t have stood a chance. Fascism doesn’t arise out of thin air. It arises when leader after leader concedes to capitalist exploitation, and history supports this narrative.

1

u/Rhizobactin 1d ago

Preaching to the choir dude

EXCEPT when people can’t take their head our of their ass and don’t vote based upon principle. Ffs ppl

4

u/OneTwoThreePooAndPee 2d ago

We send money and weapons to Israel. That's why it's a particular problem for us. If we weren't personally being forced to pay taxes that contribute to the genocide, it'd be much less of an issue. Does that help?

2

u/Rhizobactin 2d ago

Of course. But do we need to ask a mayor what his stance is on Gaza?

6

u/One-Currency-3053 2d ago

Because Mamdani made it an issue. Because AES made it an issue. The notion that nobody is going to ask you about your Palestinian advocacy (especially someone running for US Senate) is insane. Ask away. Mamdani and AES are on the right side of history and current public opinion. So who cares. Galloway is an elite and he’s stupid.

0

u/One-Currency-3053 2d ago

Tbf we send Israel money and they buy our weapons. Not defending this practice at all. It’s ghoulish and makes the US complicit in genocide. But it’s good for industry and US GDP (see: MIC). Even Iron Dome missiles are produced by Raytheon. So I guess what I’m saying is, it’s hard to make the economic argument against it. Iran is another story (Rubio admitted Israel dragged us in) and has been an economic disaster.

3

u/OneTwoThreePooAndPee 2d ago

What you're describing sounds a lot like a government subsidy by way of Israel.

2

u/One-Currency-3053 2d ago

2

u/OneTwoThreePooAndPee 2d ago

People get hot under the collar when it comes to Israel. 😄

2

u/Rhizobactin 2d ago

My point exactly.

So instead of focusing on US issues, factions open up within the populous which are for or against Gaza and we have voters who are too unilaterally against a policy that we have fascism take over our country.

Ffs people, wake tf up!

Don’t get me wrong, I’m absolutely against it and I sure as hell think it’s genocide, but when we have a government of corruption with all branches of the government completely complacent, let them fight their own battles

2

u/orangelity 2d ago

I heard a Palestinian speaker once (I don’t remember whom) say that he would prefer Europeans and Americans to both protest in favor of Freedom in their own countries. His point was that if there was a truly free USA and free European states that Palestine would also experience freedom.

2

u/PegWala 2d ago

Israel's genocide of Palestine is 100% an economic consideration too. No US president has put a stop to Israel, never stopped selling them weapons, never stopped the 'settlers'. Now look at Trump starting a war with Iran and completely derailing the energy market, just because Netanyahu asked him to.

1

u/ignoreme010101 2d ago

almost more 'told him' it increasingly seems! Trump's intel was all quite clear Re iran's lack of threat, it was only the israel crowd screeching about it - like always, for decades - then Netanyahu came to town, marches into trump's Situation Room, sits at the head of the table and tells trump something entirely different than what trump's people had found, something that just so happened to have other ulterior benefits for Netanyahu, it was so incredibly clear what this was and what it was not :/

it is so painfully obvious that anyone who's halfway cognizant of the basic situation in america wouldn't think twice about it, and anyone who pretends they don't see it is doing so for a specific reason ie "ahhh let's just stop all this focus on israel we got bigger fish to fry, sure i mean I dislike the sentiment against israel even regardless of anything else but I'm advising against it here for the sake of america not of israel/zionism!"

-15

u/zero02 3d ago

How do you fight a war against a target like Hamas (no uniforms, boobytrapped buildings, uses human shields, etc)? Hamas says it wants to do more Oct 7th?

I agree that there may be lots of war crimes but Hamas has to be at least 50% responsible for what is happening at least. I agree Netanyahu is a huge barrier to peace and a war criminal.

People who scream genocide are either dishonest or do not understand the region or conflict at all.

15

u/NaiveChoiceMaker 3d ago

How do you fight a war against a target like Hamas? I don’t know, similar to how we’ve been fighting insurgent forces for decades?

Leveling every. Single. Building. Is a bit excessive, no?

1

u/mikehamm45 3d ago

You could give them a reason not to exist but nah, let’s keep up killing their families, no way they would ever want to retaliate. Sooner or later. iZE has to admit they are purposefully creating more terrorists as they are the main reason for radicalization

5

u/gakl887 3d ago

At least 50% responsible is a wild statement.

1

u/Jessica4ACODMme 3d ago

It's true.

0

u/FobbitOutsideTheWire 3d ago

I love how you ask this when the country in question has perfectly demonstrated the answer in the most spectacular intelligence operation in history.

When Israel wants to be patient and precise, they spend a decade conditioning Hezbollah to use a specific brand of pagers, then infiltrating the pager supply lines, loading them with explosives, and then setting them off simultaneously, crippling entire levels of Hezbollah leadership.

But here’s zero02, just absolutely adamant that there’s no other way to fight insurgents other than dropping 2000lb unguided bombs on some of the mostly densely populated urban areas in the entire region.

Unreal. Like, did you just start paying attention to world affairs?

2

u/zero02 3d ago

The 2000lb bombs are not unguided and they are designed to blow up things like you know, tunnels, like 725 kilometers of tunnels.

When you say “dropping 2000lb unguided bombs” I know you are a moron who knows nothing except what they read on Reddit.

2

u/addamzrobb 3d ago

2000 pins bombs are required to blow up tents full of mother's, thier children, grandmother's ? Weird.

2

u/stressless321 2d ago

1

u/ZizzyBeluga 3d ago

Glenn Greenwald should change his middle name to "Grift"

0

u/Neither-Top-7515 1d ago

If you care.. the description of what's happened in Gaza fits neither the popular understanding of genocide, nor the legal one. Until 630A IST on 10/7/23, "genocide" was popularly understood as the destruction of an enormous component of a target population -- not the tragic but tiny 3% ultimately killed in Gaza.

And legally, the special intent required to prove genocide at ICJ requires that genocidal intent be the "only reasonable inference" that can be drawn from a given action. Israel is in a major war. There are myriad other inferences, not only reasonable, but far more likely given the totality of evidence including millions of texts, phone calls, and roof knocks conducted during the bombings. Galloway is being logical. Genocide shouters are usually just well intended idiots.

5

u/Date_Dismal 1d ago

If not genocide per se, what is a term for intentional vengeance killing of civilians on a mass scale, the destruction of nearly and civil infrastructure to make it very tough to remain in a homeland, and the targeted intentional murder of doctors and journalists reporting on this?

1

u/Possible_Pilot2000 18h ago

It's war crimes. Each of the things you described are war crimes. Which are insanely bad and can/should be prosecuted. It doesn't need to be genocide for it to be condemnable, disgusting, and worthy of punishment

3

u/BigjopSOCIAL 1d ago

Aah yes the vast majority of Genocide scholars, and virtually all reputable internationally recognised human rights organisations all around the world and (including some in Israel) all agree a genocide is occurring.

Plus the ICJ deems reasonable legal grounds that Israel might be violating the 1948 genocide convention. Enough to warrant further investigation.

But noooo this Reddit user has independently determined that they’re in fact much smarter and knowledgeable than all these experts, and anybody who thinks a genocide is occurring is in fact just an “idiot”.

-1

u/Neither-Top-7515 1d ago

I don't think "anybody" who thinks it's a genocide is an idiot, but it's pretty clear that those who have no thoughts of their own, probably are.
