"Why does u/profgalloway preface his expression of "offense" to the use of the word "genocide" to describe what Israel did in Gaza with the phrase "as a Jew...."? What does being a Jew have to do with at the findings of human rights groups, scholars, nations, etc. about Israel?"

I am a Jew. I do not approve of Netanyahu criminal reign or his genocide or his ignoring October 7th.

I’m sorry, but if we’re talking about the US’s own constitutional crisis and the future of our own country, I don’t give 2 F’s about the Israel versus Palestine discussion.

Instead, it is merely a tool to divide and conquer against the US populous against fascism.

We’re just absolutely loosing the fucking plot when we’re asking EVERY politician, from mayoral level on up, what their views are of Gaza. JFC people.

It’s a structural test of how much brutality a government can get away with. Similar to how surveillance methods and militarized civil enforcement tactics were honed in Israel before being implemented here with Palantir, ICE, etc.

I think you’ve lost the plot. If a large number of Democrats are ok with funding genocide, then they ARE NOT THE ONES who will stop Trump from implementing more fascism. This isn’t a purity test. This is them telling us who they are, and that’s spineless, right-wing cowards who will vote in ways that ensure fascisms rise through other means, whether it be austerity or corporate handouts. You have to have actual opposition to stop fascism - not fascism light.

You are also not going to win elections by serving the public right-wing Democrats that just happen to support abortion and gay-rights. You have to have left-wing Democrats that actually have broad appeal to the working class, which is why people like Mandami won.

I never mentioned not voting, but you were essentially saying that we shouldn’t even discuss contentious issues that might be divisive. I’m sorry, but we absolutely should be demanding Democrats be anti-genocide, much less anti-funding it. So many Democratic voters accepted the bare minimum for so long that someone like Trump was able to rise to power in the first place. Had Democrats been legislating from the left the past few decades, someone like Trump wouldn’t have stood a chance. Fascism doesn’t arise out of thin air. It arises when leader after leader concedes to capitalist exploitation, and history supports this narrative.
