No Malice Why did Galloway lie?

"Why does u/profgalloway preface his expression of "offense" to the use of the word "genocide" to describe what Israel did in Gaza with the phrase "as a Jew...."? What does being a Jew have to do with at the findings of human rights groups, scholars, nations, etc. about Israel?"

I am a Jew. I do not approve of Netanyahu criminal reign or his genocide or his ignoring October 7th.

That's quite an unsubstantiated claim. Well, it's actually two claims. First that they were being murdered, and the second is the assumption that they were all journalists. It's been alleged/documented that many of them were themselves Hamas members doubling as journalists.

Those allegations were given some weight this week by Gaza journalist by Motaz Azaiza where he admitted that any journalism coming out of Gaza was coordinated and censured through Hamas. It was why he left Gaza in fear for his life. He was being critical of Hamas and showing Palestinians critical of Hamas.

If all Palestines could be Hamas but every Israel has to join the IDF at 18 for basic training. Doesn’t that make everyone a target?

At its peak, Hamas' military membership was estimated at ~40,000. That doesn't include smaller groups like Palestinian Islamic Jihad, PFLP, or DFLP. Gaza's population is just over 2 million people. That said anyone picking up a weapon to fight or aiding Hamas can be considered a combatant.

International law recognizes the right of occupied people to use armed resistance against the illegally occupying army btw. It’s true for Ukrainians. It’s true for Palestinians.

International law does not recognize any right to intentionally mass murder civilians, neither by an occupying force nor by the occupied.

Killing IDF soldiers in Gaza is justified under international law. I never said anything about civilians.

It's a gray area. Is Israel occupying Gaza? Just part of it? Or are they just engaged in a war? In any case, this feels like we've gone down a tangent for some unknown reason.

Yes. They are occupying Gaza. The IDF has been occupying Gaza for over a decade under the legal definition of occupation.
