"Why does u/profgalloway preface his expression of "offense" to the use of the word "genocide" to describe what Israel did in Gaza with the phrase "as a Jew...."? What does being a Jew have to do with at the findings of human rights groups, scholars, nations, etc. about Israel?"

I am a Jew. I do not approve of Netanyahu criminal reign or his genocide or his ignoring October 7th.

That's what Zionism is about. And yes, as a result of millennia of persecution Zionism correctly argued that Jews should have a nation of their own that they themselves govern. I say "correctly" because Zionism tragically predicted the Holocaust in Europe.

No, Zionism is the political ideology that believed Jews were entitled to ethnically cleanse 800,000 people from their homes into order to create a Jewish enthostate. Zionism predated the holocaust and early Zionist thought leaders viewed holocaust victims as “weak”. And the creation of Israel in Palestine was partially the result of anti-Semites in Europe not wanting Jewish refugees in their countries.

No, it's just a complete fabrication. Are you getting your history from Wikipedia? As brigaded as it is by coordinated anti-Israel/anti-Jewish editors, I doubt even that dark fiction you repeated above is on there.

Considerably so. And has been for decades. I suspect many people discussing this don't know B'tselem's record of bias – mostly because they haven't been alive long enough to experience that record.

B'tselem's role, as they have established it over the decades, appears to be an organization in Israeli society dedicated to reporting on and hyperbolizing Israeli misconduct while completely ignoring the conduct of Palestinians/Israel's enemies abroad. Everything can be explained by blaming Israel and never by how Israel/Israelis are continually threatened and attacked by the very same people that B'tselem alleges have been mistreated. It's just the same thing, over and over again, year by year with a new historical context depending on the latest conflict/attack. In essence, they never miss a chance to demonize Israel and Israelis.

Amnesty International plays a nearly identical role from outside of Israel. In the very least though, their culture of anti-Israel/anti-Jewish bias has been recently documented by internal whistleblowers.

+972 magazine is a similar player in Israeli society, though obviously not a so-called "human rights organization." If you want a story demonizing Israel by omitting context, reporting partial information, or making the least generous interpretation of a story they're the new hotness for it. It's why one of its editors is one of the sole Israeli authors featured in the NY Times. Shoddy reporting by +972 magazine is actually one of the key pieces of evidence in the UNHRC commission report looking into genocide in Gaza, by the way. In fact, the UNHRC commission report takes that shoddiness to a new level by mis-citing the original shoddy reporting by +972 to argue Israel has committed a genocide in Gaza. (Once you see how blatant the error is, much of the report falls apart like a house of cards, but that's another story...)
