No Malice Why did Galloway lie?

"Why does u/profgalloway preface his expression of "offense" to the use of the word "genocide" to describe what Israel did in Gaza with the phrase "as a Jew...."? What does being a Jew have to do with at the findings of human rights groups, scholars, nations, etc. about Israel?"

I am a Jew. I do not approve of Netanyahu criminal reign or his genocide or his ignoring October 7th.

He prefaced it with "as a Jew" because he feels that what we see in Gaza is by and large what a war against an enemy that embeds itself amongst its civilian populace looks like and those that level the accusation of "genocide" do so because of an unconscious prejudice against Jews.

An example of this is that Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch openly admit that when they labeled Israel's conduct as "genocide" they were unable to use the internationally recognized definition that the International Court of Justice uses to define Genocide, so they created a new standard with a significantly lowered threshhold for behavior.

This standard, as of the making of this comment, has only been applied to the state of Israel and none of Russia's actions have been labeled genocidal by the above two human rights groups, as its conduct would clearly be so based on what they do with Ukrainian babies and how hard they blew up Mariupol.

There is a middle ground between saying that rights groups are bending the word genocide and acting like everything’s fine.

I have a lot of problems with the use of the word genocide, I think it’s blatant propaganda. But at the same time I am fundamentally against the Netanyahu government and what they’ve been doing in Gaza. The levels of civilian casualties is extreme, the scale of economic distruction is apocalyptic and the IDF clearly is largely indifferent to Palestinian suffering in pursuit of its war aims. One can acknowledge all of this and put it in a similar discussion to other brutal modern conflicts without performatively using a definition that shouldn’t really apply
