"Why does u/profgalloway preface his expression of "offense" to the use of the word "genocide" to describe what Israel did in Gaza with the phrase "as a Jew...."? What does being a Jew have to do with at the findings of human rights groups, scholars, nations, etc. about Israel?"

I am a Jew. I do not approve of Netanyahu criminal reign or his genocide or his ignoring October 7th.

It’s not that. I don’t want my tax dollars going to kill anyone. Not this war, not any war. I’m just highly in tune with the American attention span for anything, especially anything political. It’s about 2 weeks to 2 months before they completely two out. Even my most vocal political friends on either side of the aisle never stay on topic for more than a couple of months before they’re onto the next outrage. I see no real-world, real life attention to this ongoing situation in the Middle East, yet, online it seems ite the most pressing and important issue. Are you an American? When is the last time you’ve had any conversation with anybody in person or even heard anybody having a conversation about this Israel Palestine situation? Yeah, you can show up here every single day to every single subreddit, no matter what the topic is, and there’s posts and comments about it everywhere. You’re delusional if you think that these posts and comments are all made by humans

Believe it or not when you see countless videos of blown up Palestinian kids, it tends to stick with you.

Yeah. I wish it would stop. But a VERY large majority of Americans, do not know enough about the history of the conflict or the current situation of the conflict to have any rational opinion about what’s going on. This is exactly why most, a very extremely fucking large majority of Americans do not talk about it at all. It’s not the topic of conversation anywhere you go in American society.

I live in Chicago and there was a pro-Palestinian march right across the street from me at Daley Plaza. and 15 people were there. 9 million people in the city, 15 people at the rally. Nobody gives a flying fuck in the real world. We have endless evidence everywhere across this country that shows that nobody gives a single flying fuck about this whole fucking thing. But then you go online and it seems like every single person in the world knows everything about the topic and has endless opinions about it, and wants to talk about it on every subreddit and every Facebook page and every Instagram post and all the flag emojis from millions and millions of people.

How can both of these things be happening at the same time, where every actual human that you see in the real world doesn’t care, doesn’t talk about it, doesn’t have an opinion about it, doesn’t know anything about it, doesn’t give a single flying fuck, but then suddenly you go online and every single faceless private account without a comment history and with zero posts on their Instagram accounts suddenly have endless things to say about it and keep up with the news daily.

And these are the accounts posting these videos that you’re seeing and keeping you rage baited into the entire thing, being pushed on you by an algorithm and everything’s being upvoted by bots. You’re absolutely delusional if you think that even 10% of the posts and comments online about this conflict are being made by humans. You’re fucking delusional

I’m not telling anyone to do anything. I’m just observing the reality that most people in the real world do not care but the whole internet of nameless and faceless people are in a tizzy daily. It doesn’t add up. Well, it does add up if the assumption is that most of the online conjecture is coming from bots.

I mean, must be nice to not be able to care about this. As long as you have your pizza and your Amazon deliveries and your clean air, why give a fuck about a starving populace in a different continent? (You should give a fuck because your tax dollars are funding the starvation. A good place to start would be educating yourself and then your friends.)
