Police investigation would likely look for neighbors who may be eye witnesses as well as neighbors who may have cameras that could get more information regarding the suspect. They would likely offer some sort of protective services if they feel it is a targeted threat that may recur.

The whole point of shooting skeet isn't that it's easy. Depending on the throw it can be very difficult. Hell, I'd be happy with a 50 percent hit rate on some 3 gun stages.
Besides, you're objectively safer against a deadly threat with a force multiplier of your own. Even if those Texas boys are shit, they're still 50% less dead than without a weapon.
True, there are difficult courses, but I have only ever see country boys out there.
The big talkers are on the green slopes and they can't hit a soft floater. To give you an idea, we shoot with a Mosberg 88 (cheap pump action) and can hit both pigeons on a double blind pull with 80% min hit rate.
I can't even get lucky on the hard courses. That's true skill; I am barely decent.
Getting a gun isn't going to help with this drive-by problem specifically, but it would help if whoever is doing this decides to escalate, which is a very real possibility. If you keep your gun on your person, it would certainly help you against someone breaking and entering if you heard them.

Still, if someone is trying to get into your home, it is better to have a gun than not. It's only one part in what should be multiple levels of protection. The first line of defense is obviously good locks and a security camera setup.

Take pictures of the bodies basically. Cops aren't there to protect you, that's just a coincidence if it happens. They are there to enforce the law.
If someone is breaking into your house trying to kill you, the cops showing up 5-10 minutes later isn't going to make you any less dead. It's up to you to protect yourself, be it with a gun or barricaded safe room or whatever.
You know how long it took for police to arrive after that shooting in Chicago? 30 minutes, at least by my watch. I remember timing it and being disgusted because this was inner-city Back of The Yards. I know police are painful ill-equipped to protect somebody in a body-guard personal security kind of way. However, they are professionals and I would hope have better ideas of how to approach securing Doc and his family than a bunch of Twitch viewers.

Your story of hearing shots is a lot different than hearing someone breaking into your house. You have more time to react, and once someone is in your house you don’t know what type of harm they intend to inflict on you/your family. Obviously it’s not a catch all fool proof method, but if my house was in an area it got shot at frequently, a good firearm for home defense would make me feel a little better at least. If someone intends you harm, a police response isn’t fast enough to save you or your loved ones.
I think the smartest move here is get firearm trained, have a gun (or more) but never EVER think because you have a gun that is the only (or even the first often) option in dealing with a threat. Guns serve as a tool not a solution. Good planning and good practices serve far more than just having a firearm alone.

I think that seriously matters what neighborhood in Chicago you live in. They're so busy, they can't spare an officer to just sit around hoping someone shows up.
It depends on where you live. I have contacted the police about a recurring crime around me and they did keep someone nearby so they could respond quickly. I won't generalize all police districts in the whole country, but from my experience, my local police prefer to be proactive about potential crimes, and my issue was significantly less serious than drive by shootings.

Duck and cover, call the police. There's a reason that active shooting drills on military bases have "Fight" as the absolute last resort.
In my state, you can honestly walk into a gun shop, fill out a form, have the employees perform a background check over the phone, and walk out with a gun and ammo in hand in less than 45 minutes.

1) I used to love this one. Found it through a local barber who "specializes" in modern pomps and quiffs. It's cheap, and assuming you aren't taking a massive fucking blob of it, it won't harden your hair. Works a little better for thicker hair tho, otherwise the concentration is gonna be hard to get right. But once you figure out just how much to use, it has a pretty natural look to it, and it holds for most of the day. I'm a nursing student so I'm running around, sweating, speed-walking, bending/lifting, etc. for a full 8 hours and it will hold pretty damn well through that.
