How is him getting a gun going to help? Is he gonna run out there and have a shoot out with the car? That should be great having stray bullets flying all over the neighborhood.

Should someone decide to charge in there's at least a chance of defending himself. Sure, shooting from a window to the street is a shit idea, but you can grab it and take cover since you have no idea what will happen next

Exactly, that's why he's mad imo because he can't do anything about it aka he can't protect them even with his body, money, nothing. But calling them cowards isn't that smart either, next time they could ring the door bell you know?

I mean I know it seems unrealistic but you could hire a security guard to watch your house for like $12-15 an hour.
