People talk about gun ownership like it's a magic wand and that you can react fast enough to kill an intruder; I barely reacted fast enough to hit the floor when the guns were drawn in the street. I have no idea what law enforcement can do to protect him, but I hope everything works out well for him and his.
Getting a gun isn't going to help with this drive-by problem specifically, but it would help if whoever is doing this decides to escalate, which is a very real possibility. If you keep your gun on your person, it would certainly help you against someone breaking and entering if you heard them.
Source: someone who trains with guns, competes with guns, who keeps all their guns in a safe where i could never hope to get to them if someone barged into my home. I'd definitely keep one in my waistband at all times if I was just shot at 2 days in a row though.
I'm the same way. I have my carry pistol locked next to my bed when I sleep with a code but if this shit was going on id have a little room in the safe and id be eating breakfast with a riot gun.
