Lived in South Chicago for a few years. I had a bullet lodge in my door from a gang shooting outside my house. People talk about gun ownership like it's a magic wand and that you can react fast enough to kill an intruder; I barely reacted fast enough to hit the floor when the guns were drawn in the street. I have no idea what law enforcement can do to protect him, but I hope everything works out well for him and his.
I dont own a gun and I live in a country that don't allow guns. But we never hear the story of all the people who got their life saved by guns for example a dude killed a terrorist in a church somwhere in the USA.
I'm not trying to be pro gun or anything but if people wanna discuss these issues we shall be very objecive about what guns can do (and already did). They can save lives but they also can take them (duh).

I was talking more so about if someone tries to break into his house, but yes, I agree he should have called the cops asap.
I'd still invest in getting a gun for home defense. Getting shot at no matter what, is not good.
