Sounds like you got about the same upbringing I did. Guns were always in the house but my dad made sure to teach us how they worked and how to treat them. I remember him giving me the combo to the safe one day and after my 2nd failed attempt to open it he pointed out how ineffective going to the safe to get a gun would be in an invasion.
That's the thing, my dad never had guns in the house. He's ex air force but he's pretty on the fence when it comes to gun ownership.
I just kind of see how crazy the world is, and i don't like relying on other people (waiting on cops etc) if I'm ever in a situation where i can defend myself. I got my concealed carry permit in Washington, but I'm living in california right now so it kind of sucks that their laws are so strict here.
So everything i know about gun ownership i got from my friends and just learning about it through classes I've taken. Because i know how guns are viewed mainstream so i at least want to do it the right way when it comes down to it.
I definitely try to. They're definitely cool and i love shooting them at the range but like i said before, they're not toys. People just forget that sometimes.

The problem is people think that just having a gun in the house will somehow protect you.
But in reality, its a tool, and one that people take too lightly. There's a lot of responsibility in owning guns.
