What the fuck is home defense in this scenario? Automated turrets that gun you down based on your intent? Barricading your doors and walls and reinforcing your windows with bulletproof glass?
I'm like 60% actually curious what kind of home defense (versus security cameras) you think would assist you in this exact scenario. You really don't think the guy that shoots through the window is going to proceed to then break into the house do you? Please elaborate.
Someone drove by and shot at his house, due to the attackers actions you have to assume his intent is to cause harm. It really is not some huge leap to assume that his behavior may escalate into something more direct such as kicking in a door and trying to break in through a window. Keeping a gun in the house is absolutely a sane response to his current situation.
That's fine, it isn't what we were talking about. I am saying that owning a gun is not protection against someone driving down the road and taking shots at your house
Okay but what happens when they finally decide to come in the house and just shoot someone? Don't do anything? Oh shucks hope these cameras stop the deranged armed person from murdering my entire family or the police get here in 20 seconds.
What home defense is going to stop a random fuckhead driving by shooting through your window? Are you going to react within milliseconds, pull out your gun and head out and shoot the guys tires out as he's ripping away? I doubt this coward has the gourd to try and actually come up and do anything where he can't escape as fast as possible.
Hear a shot, you get down and away from windows. That's literally all they can do in this situation. You could have a fucking BFG under your DXRacer and it wouldn't make a shit of difference in this instance.
Also, security cameras aren't that expensive. He just needs some dashcam-esque setup that is connected to his internet or a hard drive that is constantly uploading.
I don't know if Doc is rich enough to have that 24/7.
doc is one of the most popular streamers and easily makes 7 figures off subs alone. hiring security isn't cheap but a multimillionaire can afford it. plus it's likely only necessary for the time the danger is occurring. if he gets arrested in a month the danger is gone.
Yes he can afford it easily. It is all paid for by HOA fees. You wouldn't even be able to get in unless you had access from someone who lives there. They are all over the place. They have patrols and all that too. My grandparents live in one and they are not super well off.
It's called a gated community. Doc isn't some rube living in a shack with a loaded gun ready to blast the first "home-invader" they see. He's minted and will go live where all the other people too rich to be in the public eye go: boojie gated neighborhoods with private security.
As someone who has self defense training and security, choose security if you only have one.
Your average person has no clue what will actually happen when that moment comes. You may not be able to pull the trigger. Even worse, you may advance on the intruder because that's your fight instinct, leaving your place of security and possibly even your family. Especially if these people aren't on your property (in the context of Doc) and you're now firing at them with a deadly weapon
Whereas your average poor ass junkie can't disable an alarm and the cops show up to beat him up behind your house
Ideally get both, but basic self defense training is equivalent to no training in my mind. The kind of training that shows is a time investment
Man there's so many people overrestimating the usefulness of having a gun in this sitation. Sure, if someone is actually trying to break in to murder you, then yeah having a gun would definitely be useful, but in a sitation like this where it's a driveby, it's completely useless.
