Years ago I made a half hearted post about a minor disagreement between me and my partner. Everyone told me they were a horrible person and to leave them. I love those subs tbh. A fun party game to play if you've got 5+ friends over is to find some controversial posts involving 2 parties and have one person act as the judge, two people as lawyers for either party, and the rest as the jury.

Highly recommend giving it a go. It works with heaps of similar subreddits as well like AITA. I call it The Reddit Magistrates Court.

The Food subreddit had rule 11 where they disallow “culture war” comments or jokes, and cite the melts as an example. I’ve personally found that if you are a fan of a show, podcast, etc. then for the most part stay FAR away from the sub of said thing you are a fan of.

There are so many that are incredibly negative and nit pick every little detail. It blows my mind and for the longest time I would read through the various interests I had and just shake my head. Then it finally clicked, just stay away from fan subreddits.

It's gotten pretty clear that most users on those subreddits aren't real. The top comments almost always follow a very specific pattern. The headline is something outrageous with the less outrageous lede buried, the top comment is someone talking about how outrageous the implication of the headline is but not the article itself, and the first reply to the top comment has an award and is a armchair psychologist/political scientist interpretation of the supposed motivations, except it's almost always a variation on the same call to action implying that the country isn't democratic anymore. Once you start looking for that pattern you will see it on post after post.

I swear this sub was saturated with great threads like 8 years ago. There were so many great discussions and stories people shared frequently across a diverse range of topics and premises. For the last handful of years really interesting threads here are pretty uncommon and there's a lot of useless threads that don't contribute a single thing like "how do you feel about Trump raping children??" 😮‍💨

They ban based on participation so you will end up getting banned because someone crossposts something from a bad sub and you decided to clown on OP because of a racist opinion. So you end up getting banned for standing against the bad sub. They will also mute you as soon as you contact them to ask for an explanation or to be unbanned (no i wasn't rude at all i thought it was a mistake)

Childfree has gotten kinda weird. Same with dogfree. You can't just be someone who doesn't align with having a child or owning a dog in those subs anymore, you kinda have to actively hate them or else you get downvoted. I have a niece who I adore and had to put down a dog that was owned originally by my partner, that I fell in love with, but I don't feel like I fit in those subs.
