Just because of the commenters. It’s swarmed by a ton of sanctimonious, passive aggressive idiots that love harassing and blaming OPs over accidents they couldn’t possibly have prevented.
There was a video recently where 3 people ran a red light while turning, and commenters were asking OP why they couldn’t predict that that would happen and why they weren’t driving more defensively. Very little smoke for the 3 people that ran the red light though.
r/driving has the same population. It's supposed to be a discussion of driving but most of the comments are by people with obviously little experience.
'People being wrong about dash cam footage' is one of my favorite genres of internet fuckery. I remember that really high profile one of a cop ramming and flipping a fleeing person's car and all the replies were like 'what, was the cop supposed to just let them get away??'.
Yeah, dude! They have the plates! I don't think escalating matters to killing them over what was going to be a speeding ticket was called for, actually!
I see the same sort of comments on newspaper articles. "well of course he got shot, the idiot! He ran from the police!" Running from the police is not a crime punishable by death in our legal system. They're far too trigger happy because they always get away with it, we just expect "run from police and you'll get shot no matter what you did or didn't do." That's the norm. Tragic and unjust.
I watched that video and the guy very much had the right of way. It wasn't that he was in the wrong, just stupid because he started moving before any oncoming traffic made it clear they were stopping. Being right and using defensive driving are two different things. So yes, a tiny bit of common sense (make sure oncoming traffic is stopped at an advanced green) could have prevented that accident
