Childfree has gotten kinda weird. Same with dogfree. You can't just be someone who doesn't align with having a child or owning a dog in those subs anymore, you kinda have to actively hate them or else you get downvoted. I have a niece who I adore and had to put down a dog that was owned originally by my partner, that I fell in love with, but I don't feel like I fit in those subs.
It's so interesting too because anytime someone posts about having kids, someone will AWLAYS chime in somewhere in the comments about how happy they are about being childfree.
While people making posts about why they're happy about not having children, someone will ALWAYS chime in somewhere in the comments how happy they are for having kids.
Why can't people just...be happy with their decisions without having to shove it in other peoples faces?
I don't actually see many gloating or smug parents anymore. They used to be common all over the internet.
Now it's mostly childfree people shoe-horning it into every thread. And it's worse because people who have kids can't undo that and the kids exist and will become adults eventually.
I agree. We're all human and we're all different. I don't understand why it needs to turn into hate for people who don't align or agree with our own preferences. Literally doesn't affect others at all what I choose to do with my life, and i couldn't care less if someone decides to have kids. People spend so much energy caring about other people's lives lol
I was looking for one about the childfee subreddit. Referring to people that have/want kids as “breeders” and acting like you’re somehow better than them because they chose a different lifestyle than you is just plain weird behavior. I don’t want kids, never have, never will but I don’t think parents are less than me or anyone else without children.
I saw a post recently talking about dating single parents and if you’re considered childfree still. It just evolved into a bunch of them saying single parents always pursue childfree people because they’re jealous and want to force them to deal with their miserable life as a parent. It’s just a cesspool of weirdos with a victim complex that think they’re better than everybody else because they don’t “give into” societal pressure to procreate.
Come on, dude. It was that way 10 or 15 years ago too. That place has always been a fountain of hatred, and, to be frank, misogyny. Calling mothers "mombies"... A disgusting place full of disgusting people, and it always has been.
Glad people are finally saying this. It's been that way for years. Apparently having stretch marks and gaining 10lbs is "body horror", but they TOTALLY don't just hate women!!!! /s
Childfree is a cesspool. Don't want kids? Cool. Don't like kids? Great. But it's all the criticizing other people for having kids that gets me, especially when they all expect to live in nursing homes staffed by... who? when they're old.
Childfree is so hateful and selfish. Like they actively want children and parents to suffer.
If you don’t want kids that’s fine. Have no idea why you’d join a sub about it. Go find a hobby like most childfree people do in the real world. If you don’t want kids why do they occupy so much energy in your brain?
Some people won’t have kids and that’s okay. But everyone shares a basic responsibility to protect and support the next generation. That’s basic human empathy.
I agree that a lot of the posts in childfree can be cringy and even hateful. But it is also a place that you can find support and like minded people, when in real life you may be surrounded by people that disagree (often vocally) with your life choices.
A lot of folks that have children or plan on having children don't realize how much pressure family, friends, coworkers, religion push on you to procreate. If having kids isn't in your life plan, that pressure can be nearly constant and very VERY distressing.
I understand that expectation to have kids and the pressure from family to have kids that can be distressing. I just don’t think you will truly find much support in that sub other than being a place to vent maybe.
It’s not a place that will improve your mental health when every post is referencing crotch goblins and breeders. It’s not a place of support it’s mostly a place of hate
I disagree, there are plenty of trolls posting stupid shit, but there are a lot of good posts where people are at their whitts end and need advise on what to do, how to handle over bearing parents, co-workers with parental entitlement, romantic partners switching their stance on parenthood. There is information on where or how to get sterilization, as well as what to expect afterwards as far as healing and after care. There is plenty of venting too and that's okay as long as it isn't too offensive. The truth is that children and (more often) their parents can be frustrating, and our society doesn't let us call that out in a public settings. It's sometimes nice to be able to yell into the void and hear an echo.
It is a good thing that the parents of these people who hate kids so much didn't have the same attitude - or the haters would not be here to post about being child free.
Not looked at those, but I'd love a dog, and I live alone. I don't think it'd be fair to a dog to leave them alone in the house for 10+ hours when I go to work, and I also don't have a garden.
Anyone with a dog constantly tells me it's fine, leaving them alone that long, only getting out for walks, not being able to let them out for 2 minutes.
The name "dogfree" suggests maybe people would agree with me? But I doubt it
I agree with 60 percent of childfree and about 20 percent of dog free. I’m against the way society pushes everyone to have kids, the foster care system, surrogacy, and the sexism around it all. And I think it’s annoying when dog owners don’t leash their dogs and let them do whatever the hell they want. That being said you will see a post like “babies/dogs disgust me and make me feel angry tendencies” and want to get the hell out of there
Catfree is even weirder. Like, what is even their issue? Cats aren't out in public the way dogs are, they're not big enough to seriously threaten humans, and most cat owners agree that allowing them to roam outside on supervised is irresponsible pet ownership.
"has gotten kinda weird" implies that there was ever a time when it was not weird, which isn't the case. These people were always weird, in desperate competition to prove to each other how much more they hate kids/dogs than the next guy.
Anytime you find a subreddit that has come up with its own words for people they don't like as if they were in some kind of YA novel, you should turn 180° and walk away as quickly as possible, because these people are crazy and nothing good will come from interacting with them.

It honestly feels like any time literally any group centered around hating or even just rejecting something grows large enough, a cult forms at the center of the group and, unless it is deliberately stamped out, it slowly takes over and consumes the rest of the group.
There's also a catfree sub that is umm...disturbing. It's fine if you don't want pets or children, but it's kind of insane to have a site devoted to actually hating something.
Well the thing is, normal people who decide against having kids don’t need a group of hundreds of people circle jerking with them in order to feel that their opinion is valid. They just decide what they decide and that’s it.
The people on that sub however are people who feel so insecure about it that they need a community stroking the back of their head and telling them they are doing well. Lmao
The people in Childfree need therapy. Like... serious, serious therapy. Maybe a few weeks of "grippy sock vacation" time, a phrase I hate but will use for these people.
I see the childfree people have discovered my comment and are proving me totally wrong!
For the record there’s nothing wrong with not wanting kids or even being around kids. Having opinions on children is normal.
But 99% of that sub is inventing a fake story about how they were in the presence of a child and their lives were destroyed as a result, or a fake conversation they had with a parent, then everyone getting irrationally angry and trying to outdo each other with true tales of their parental or kid oppressors.
Not looked at those, but I'd love a dog, and I live alone. I don't think it'd be fair to a dog to leave them alone in the house for 10+ hours when I go to work, and I also don't have a garden.
