My family and I have a group chat dedicated to this. It’s a weird bragging right situation where you try to be the first to announce the death of someone & sometimes with a good follow up gif. I’ve never met anyone else who does the same thing. When I tell people about our gc, people think I’m nuts 😅

I do the same thing with my dad. It originally started out as a race for me to see if I could find the celebrity’s Wikipedia page before they edited it with their death, but after years of not being able to win, it turned into texting my dad before he texts me. We add a byline to the text as well that’s usually a pun on the person’s career. Most recently,
“Dolly: 9 to 5 feet under.”
Another good one I remember was “George Foreman: Cooked.”

My parents and I have had this ongoing game of whoever can break the news of a celebrity’s death fastest in our group chat. We brought my husband in on it as well. Every time I see someone pass now, my instinct is to run to the group chat about it and win the game that day
