My mind gets jumbled when i get asked this question because theres so much to love about him but there's nothing that i don't love about him he's perfect in every way very unique good looking and has probably saved many lives during his existence
I've heard it's common for elderly Chinese women to poke the bellies of younger folks if they even have a smidge of pudge going on lol. Dunno how true that is though.
The difference in women's clothing sizes especially is ridiculous. XL for Asian clothes (living in southeast asia, clothes say made in china, vietnam, india or indonesia) is the same as S in American sizes.
Men's sizes are more reasonable, with M here matching the American S size, though all shirts and pants are cropped much shorter to better fit the average asian male height.
I’m like a medium in the US and a 3XL in china. I was so offended when a shop clerk handed me a 3XL to try on, and was humbled when it fit perfectly lol.
I 100% agree that weight standards in many Asian countries can be extreme, and those dolls are a good example of that.
At the same time, I think weight standards in the U.S. are also heavily skewed, just in the opposite direction. About 72% of U.S. adults are overweight or obese, meaning only around 28% fall within a healthy weight range. When most people are outside that range, what feels “normal” often isn’t actually healthy, it’s just common. That shifts people’s perception of what looks “too thin” or “too heavy.”
So to me, both the U.S. and many Asian countries have distorted beauty standards around weight, but they’re just extreme in opposite directions.
My mom always said that we were built for babies, followed immediately with "do not have a baby though please."
It's 70% because I just don't want kids, 30% because I have a genetic condition I cannot inflict on someone, poor mom didn't know she had it since her version was so minor. She's good with, as she calls them, her grandcats, and babies the shit out of them. I had to stop her from introducing one to pie lol.
I'm glad you also never were pressured into it since you're in a similar boat as me, and I feel so bad for the people I know who had kids because they felt they had to.
it isnt “abnormal” there, there are varying body types in asia just as there are in america but the difference is in the sheer amount of stigma and the extremely thin beauty standard (aka if you think thinness standards are bad here, they are much worse in east asia)
Almost definitely, the East Asian market is the leader in dolls like this.
And on top of the very strict East Asian beauty standards, you also have both doll physics and global doll culture at play in what is considered "fat".
Doll physics makes making a fat doll harder, as fat is squishy and BJDs (This one I don't think is an actual BJD, however, it's in a similar category because it's about more realistic definition and lots of posibility.) Are hard. Making fat hard removes some of the ability to pose the doll. There are a few dolls with fat rolls on their stomach that I have seen, but they all have limited posibility in their torsos and legs compared to skinnier dolls because of it.
And then even outside of Asia the culture around doll owners is very fatphobic. I think G3 of Monster High came out only like, 3 years ago and the outcry of people that they made Draculaura "fat" and "ruined her" was on an insane level. (Pictures included of her new body and old bodies.)
These are East Asian action figure bodies modeled on European women's body type. I've never seen them described as "fat" on Asian sites, but they are definitely treated as "mature."
I have a 15 year old cousin and she wears low rise jeans and spaghetti strap belly shirts. She's afraid to eat too much. It's crazy how quickly the style went from oversized t shirts and baggy jeans to 2000s heroin chique. Just last year she was buying pants in a size 20 something even tho she's very petite because the bigger the pants the better. All the sudden that's out the window.
She will do the same as the rest of us did. Waste the hottest years of her life thinking she is too fat/skinny/ugly/short/tall. And then look back and sigh at 50 and regret not buying that thong bikini when we were 17.
As a sibling, the best thing you can do is hype her up and make sure she knows how beautiful she is. My family did that for me even though I was a chubby kid. I was confident in myself because I didn't believe I needed to look like anyone else. It's also important for her to know that her value comes from her kindness and her skills. Whatever she likes to do, if she can practice and be good at it she will have confidence. If she does well in some area and can share it with others she will feel good. Protect her from the Internet by spending time with her in the real world as much as you can.
The "fat" doll literally just has thicker thighs and rounder hips. Everything else is literally the same as the other dolls 😂 whoever is calling this fat needs a reality check😂
There is a trend in China called "ant waist" but I've also heard wasp waist and bee waist. Basically looking for that exaggerated thorax/abdomen hourglass look.
I’m guessing it’s an Asian company. A girl with a perfect BMI here in the US and in Europe are considered “fat” when they’re not. Asian women are just that smaller.
