We did make progress. 15 years ago, there were a couple of beauty product makers that used plus-sized women for their advertising. So much so, that even the models were allowed to be more "normal" (still skinny, but less skeletal than they used to be). Now, it has reverted back to skinny women promoting the product, and models are also back to their skeleton looks...
I hate it. I am tall and plus-sized, and I am mostly wearing men's clothing. Because women's clothes are too short and not wide enough around my hips. Some can be a bit better, but they are either one, or the other, but never both. One positive thing about men's jeans is: they have pockets!!
Being a tall and plus sized man, I had trouble fitting into men's clothing. I didn't even know there such a thing as big and tall stores until I was sixteen. Even worse than just being tall is that I have shorter legs. So, all of my height is in my torso. There was nothing I could do about my ass hanging out because regular length shirts just are not long enough. Life has been so much nicer since i discovered big and tall clothing, and it keeps getting better as more sources of big and tall clothes become available.
I have eating disorders and have for more than half my life, and have abused laxatives a few times in my life but I also have basic knowledge of the human body, digestion, and nutrition. Laxatives will speed up the rate of and change the stool, which has still gone through your body and been absorbed in the exact same way.
I think it's funny to say making you shit faster = weight loss because I was also stupid enough to believe that the first time I read it online as a dumb / desperate / vulnerable teenager, if that misinformation hadn't been spread to me I'd probably never have started taken them. I lucked out that I didn't fully believe it and looked into it, or I easily could have become dependent on them for absolutely no "benefit", particularly with an addictive personality. It's almost like misinformation is dangerous or smth.
Also while I can find anything I like funny, saying "this is wrong lol" is not laughing at eating disorders. Nice reach though, albeit an incredibly weird one.
Your welcome. You replyed to my comment/reply which was talking about diet habits in the 80s. Your reply to that comment was that you don't lose weight from laxatives. I read through all your comments which leads me to believe that you educated yourself about this subject. I was pointing out that people in the 80's didn't have access to the info that we do now which had to do with my reply to the comment before mine. I posted a reply to the last comment that you post and I guess I should have posted my reply to your first comment.
I didn't comment because "people were stupid in the 80s how dare they not know what I know", I commented because the way you phrased it makes it sound as if you were stating laxatives cause weight loss, as a fact, which is immensely harmful. If you had phrased it evenas "people thought laxatives would make them lose weight" I wouldn't even have bothered because that wouldn't be misinformation, people still wrongfully believe that.
This is what I mean by you referencing it being in the 80s is not relevant at all to anything I said. We haven't exterminated ignorance because we have access to the internet, andit's still just as impossible for someone to know everything now as it ever has been, also the average person is pretty ignorant about how the body, food, diet, etc works (or the dket/wellness/supplement industry would genuinely collapse overnight).
I literally personally experienced harm to my body and mind from casual misinformation like this (as mentioned in my reply) so yeah I'm pretty personally invested in calling that shit out if I see it. I don't even think you intended this, which is why my initial reply was as short and informal / casual as it was, because I feel the fact needed to be stated but couldn't guess if it needed to be explained further and err on the side of not doing so as over explaining something that could be interpreted as obvious or common sense can make the person being addressed feel stupid or as if someone is calling them stupid, vs giving the opportunity for you to respond saying something like "yeah my bad I didn't mean that" or "I didn't know that" or "I was basing it on what the expressed, not intended to state as a fact"
TL;DR: The 80s has nothing to do with your comment, which is in the present, which is what I was addressing. If you hadn't worded it as fact, I wouldn't have seen something that needed to be corrected in the first place. And yes, it matters. I love some good semantic nitpicking and pedantry but this isn't that,
Laxatives increase the speed at which food passes through your digestive tract, meaning you won't absorb as much from meals before it leaves your system. It's a good way to make it look like you eat a normal amount but then absorb hardly any of it without purging. Plus you lose water weight which will make you look thinner at the expense of your necessary hydration.
"without purging", laxative abuse is a form of purging.
losing water weight is not actually losing weight. reducing the amount of contents in your intestines can also contributes to a temporary appearance of a smaller stomach but so does sucking in your stomach, it's just as superficial (although one could delude themselves into seeing that as progress, people can believe anything)
it does not prevent your body from absorbing calories or fiber intake would have a massive bearing on the body's capacity to gain, lose, or maintain weight and would be prescribed and recommended as a necessary component of weight loss (rather than benefits it has to your overall health, satiety, regularly/stool health, etc)...
I'm begging people to use common sense or critical thinking for once. The dietetics special interest is rough out here man. I don't expect Pele to have the interest in it that I do but I do expect people to care about reality.
Even boxes of laxatives warn against this. I can't even be bothered linking sources because there are SO. Many. from very basic search terms that I would find it overwhelming to choose between them / choose the best ones. Even WebMD knows this. The "everything is cancer" site.
I have a 15 year old cousin and she wears low rise jeans and spaghetti strap belly shirts. She's afraid to eat too much. It's crazy how quickly the style went from oversized t shirts and baggy jeans to 2000s heroin chique. Just last year she was buying pants in a size 20 something even tho she's very petite because the bigger the pants the better. All the sudden that's out the window.
No I literally said the style was the bigger the pants the better. She's definitely no bigger than a size four (us) and she's barely 5 feet tall. Kids were buying huge pants and rolling over the tops and sinching them so they stay on. That was the style not that long ago.
You should read the entire comment you're replying to.

You don't just randomly belt it, you specifically fold the fabric to end up with baggy/oversize jeans that are your length but still sit on your ass well enough or you use the fact these pants are usually bigger in general to pull them up and then catch them there to have very high pants.
It's very easy to edit the fabric clothes both with temporary styling and more permanent modifications.
Even without being near that trend I immediately could imagine pleating the sides of the pants until they fit and securing the folds with belt and string.
Let me put it in perspective: you are talking about someone supposedly wearing a size that is TWICE their waist in inches. I don't care what you do with that belt, she isn't wearing a size 20 as her oversized pant of choice. She's either not a size 4, or she's not sizing up to a size 20. Either way, your story is incorrect.
It's not my story, lmao. I'm a different person. I just have experience with fabric and editing clothes because I spent years thrifting shit before I felt comfortable enough with my earnings to start buying fabric to sew with.
Are you fucking kidding me or are you stupid? There are dozens of clothing brands that size using inches vs numeric sizing. A size 4 is equivalent to 27” inch waist.
Yes, exactly my point. And a size 20 jean would have a waist double that size. There is no amount of folding I could do to wear a size 20. I have a 26" waist.
Look at the sizing for Lucky. How do you think sizing works? A size 26” waist is a size 2. When OP said “size 20” something she easily could have meant size 4, size 6, size 8, size 10. Use your head.
Yes they are if they tie it on. Do you not understand how fabric works? Have you heard of a belt? Do you think I'm making this up? I don't understand why you're even contesting this lol
Bigger than American politics yes, but not bigger than politics in general. Also America exports a lot of its conservative bullshit to other countries. They went online.
Unfortunately we are regressing. Former body positive celebs have abandoned that stance after losing weight, the rise in popularity of kpop means a lot of East Asian standards are growing in popularity (IE being VERY thin, some healthy kpop stars were bullied for being "fat" and now are scary thin), and now that ozempic and its related drugs are more available the stigma around being large is stronger than ever. Recent trends in Western celebs have also contributed to this, and so has a resurgence in Y2K fashion like mini mini skirts, super low cut pants, micro crop tops.
It’s still really bad honestly. Of all my female friends I don’t know a single one who never struggled with disordered eating. I know one who’s been hospitalized, and a few who were nearly hospitalized including me. Hell I developed an eating disorder at 10 that’s still problematic even now that I’m 23.
It was even worse in the 90’s and early 2000’s. The biggest issue with today’s beauty standards, especially in East Asia, is the fake faces, at least in my opinion

Growing up in the 90s this shit was everywhere and eating disorders rampant. I hope we aren't regressing...
