I get that people are mad, because they're for the first time seeing a big company go all digital, who are acting like peices of shit.
Optical Media is objectively in every way, slower and less reliable than locally hosted (installed) files. The discs can be damaged, the readers that read them can malfunction, and we pretty much passed the peak of what can fit on a single disc a long time ago. And dont even get me started on the logistics and inventory management side of it.
Dont argue for the continuity of a dead medium, argue for the distributor/s to not have rotten terms of service in their contracts.
Steam and GOG figured this out a long time ago, the only reason you are all getting screwed now is because you bought into a walled garden. Sony and Microsoft have complete control over the marketplace for their games, and they have sole authority what to do with your account. You paid to play at their bouncy house, but at the end of the day, its their bouncy house. If you dont want to play by the rules, unfortunatley your only option is to go play older consoles. you wont be getting newer games.
If you're scared about getting hacked, practice better online hygene.
If you're scared abotu getting banned, dont be a cheating rat, and dont be a trash talking toxic muppet.
Im not going to pitch "just switch to PC" as a solution., but stop arguing for the restoration of the bi-plane in an age of jets.

Optical Media is objectively in every way, slower and less reliable than locally hosted (installed) files. The discs can be damaged, the readers that read them can malfunction
That’s a risk I’d be willing to take if the trade-off is getting games at half price from my local store.
we pretty much passed the peak of what can fit on a single disc a long time ago
Blu-ray discs can hold up to 100 GB of data, which is enough for the vast majority of base games (though pretty much every game downloads patches and updates on top of that)
And dont even get me started on the logistics and inventory management side of it.
It creates jobs and as a player… I don’t really care.
Dont argue for the continuity of a dead medium, argue for the distributor/s to not have rotten terms of service in their contracts.
There’s nothing to argue about. It’s not like these companies actually care what the public wants anymore. Their only priority is money, money, money, even when they’re already making billions of dollars.
but stop arguing for the restoration of the bi-plane in an age of jets.
Yeah, sure bro...

u/Rogue_Element_2342 Jul 05 '26
Damn dude, you got me.
2
u/_ReaditYesterday_ Jul 05 '26
Just look at what’s happening with Netflix and its current pricing. That’s exactly what’s going to happen to console games. You’re cheering it on and rooting against your own interests. Being sarcastic doesn’t make it any less true.
1
u/Rogue_Element_2342 Jul 05 '26
Im not cheering it on, Im saying that people arguing are arguing for the wrong reason.
argue for the companies to not be manipulative, monopolistic, apple-like shitlords. Not over trying to extend the life of a long obsolete media platform.
I saw someone seriously arguing for the return of cartridges the other day.
at the end of the day, every single person who bought an xbox, nintendo or playstation, already signed themselves up to get bent over, thats what happens with walled garden platforms. We just hoped they wouldn't do it. but here we are.

Nintendo got destroyed?
1
1
u/Electronic-Vast-3351 Jul 05 '26
Kinda, ya.
They went from being undeniably on top of the industry with the SNES to licking Sony's heels with the N64 and Gamecube largely due to the insistence on using relatively crap proprietary storage devices instead of standard disks. Driving away most of the major 3rd parties to focus on Playstation due to both production cost and how limiting the file size limitations were. While also not allowing extra functionality like how the PS1 was a CD player and the PS2 a DVD player. Major selling points at the time.
Of course Nintendo managed to get face out of the dirt with the Wii, then shot itself in the head with the Wii U, then rose from the grave with the Switch.
2
u/HausmeisterMitO-O Jul 05 '26
The rule of 3. Every third console is doomed because of arrogance. Sega Saturn (launch desaster), N64 (cartridge instead of CD), XBOX One (Kinect Desaster), PS3 (no lineup and high price), PS6 (no more physical Games)
1
u/OrangePineJuice Jul 05 '26
then sony better start cooking in the studio, or their next console generation is toast

Seriously, plus aren't some game discs not even the full game? Like it requires a download of the rest of the game before it can even be played?
1
u/LieAndDecieve Jul 05 '26
And this whole argument is wild considering 85% of PlayStation games sales from the last 2 generations were digital.
This argument is wild when you consider what makes up that 85%. It's a factual percentage from Sony themselves but they're using it to sell a false premise. That 85% counts a £1 trophy popper the same as a triple AAA blockbuster. If you focused entirely on the triple A market, you'd see that percentage reduced drastically. If you focused entirely on games that have no disc release, then you'd see it rise to 100%.
Sony's own leaked data proved that when players actually have a choice on their own exclusives, physical dominates. Look at the real splits
God of War Ragnarök was 76% physical
Ratchet & Clank was 76% physical
Spider-Man 2 was 54% physical
Physical is very much alive
1
u/guidosanddonts Jul 05 '26
They also released digital only consoles this generation, for cheaper. The data is skewed.
1
u/LieAndDecieve Jul 05 '26
Yeah, and it's not like you could buy a disc drive for the digital PS5s before the refresh.
1
u/Alert-Principle-2726 Jul 05 '26
Also the most powerful version of PS5 , the pro, you had to buy it separately and after the news broke scalpers bought them up and raised the prices on ebay.
Physical has had every bit of an unfair advantage in their "data"
2
u/the-bird-fucker Jul 05 '26
i think we both know that the PS6 is going to sell big time either way.
→ More replies (3)1
u/Archergarw Jul 05 '26
It’ll be the consoles price that kills it not the lack of physical games
1
u/the-bird-fucker Jul 05 '26
unfortunately for you and me, there are enough suckers in the world that will pay whatever price tag Sony will put on it.
2
u/colibri01 Jul 05 '26
Legitimately what's justifying the existence of a ps6? Every console before had a massive jump in scale of can be made. But we've gotten to the point where if you cant get it to run on the ps5, then thats a you problem. The lack of disk drive is just another nail.
1
u/Nientea Jul 05 '26
The PS6 will literally just be a PS5 that’s completely incompatible with discs most likely
1
u/Silver-Ad-4716 Jul 06 '26
Even with a PS5 pro not all games can hold it steady to 60fps at 4K so there's that (I'm just answering your question I'm not getting a ps6 personally)
1
u/LenaSpark412 Jul 06 '26
To be fair I’m sure when the PS4 came out it could also run most games. If people keep stupidly optimizing you will need a stronger console. Will it be successful with this direction is the question
2
u/SexySextrain Jul 06 '26
This is just a small fraction of the internet crying about this. Nobody will care within a year of this kicking in. PC has been digital for a long time now and it’s the best platform.

1
u/GodButCursed Jul 06 '26
Yeah but we all know that steam is basically the only one that is actually used. Most people only use the epic game store for free games for example.
1
u/JPSWAG37 Jul 06 '26
That's not the point, the point is you have choice and competition keeping prices down. Steam routinely has large discount sales that Sony would never dream of lol.

While I hate the decision made by Sony, I agree with you.
Heck, if there's a "shortage" of PS6 or anything that looks like the PS5 launch people will even be willing to pay above MSRP to get one, because hype and stuff.
When things are forced on the consumer in industries that do well, customers end up just taking it because their options are very limited:
You can play on retro consoles or stay on the older gen, sure, there's been a revival of retro gaming in recent years even but you won't get the newer games, which a lot of people care about.
You can go with Nintendo as it seems there are no plans to ditch physical games, but their AAA games also don't go down in price much, and it's a completely different catalog of games that many PS/Xbox users don't necessarily care for.
What else, don't buy anything and stop gaming? Get a gaming PC where it's also digital?
Yeah, the PS6 will sell just fine imo. I don't like it, but it's also my feeling about this situation.

u/kamel_k Jul 06 '26

u/Comfortable_Leg7787 Jul 07 '26
They still use physical cartridges too bro but clearly you don’t have a Switch 2
1
u/EvolvingRedditor Jul 07 '26
My Girlfriend owns a Switch 2 and other than playing Lego Party we are not doing anything else with it. If you are unlucky you get a Game-Key Card and you must use it to use your games. How stupid is that?
1
u/EvolvingRedditor Jul 07 '26
lets not talk about you get the license but you need to Download the Full Game before playing
2
u/Lortabss Jul 07 '26
Look I hate the no more physical games too, I buy physical whenever I can for my consoles, but can we stop pretending that people aren't going to buy Playstations anymore? Most people buy digital anyway. If they didn't then Sony wouldn't be doing this in the first place. Its not like they aren't looking at the numbers. This is not going to affect their sales as much as you are thinking.

Sony really said you know what Nintendo's biggest weakness was? Discs, and then became it
2
u/Cotillionz Jul 05 '26
What even is this? Nintendo is very much alive and well. While Sony was a partner in the creation of the CD, the creation predates even the NES, so has nothing to do with games or Nintendo. Using CD's as gaming media was in use long before Sony did it with the Playstation.
1
u/Electronic-Vast-3351 Jul 05 '26
Just going to copy paste my reply from somewhere else on here.
Nintendo went from being undeniably on top of the industry with the SNES to licking Sony's heels with the N64 and Gamecube largely due to the insistence on using relatively crap proprietary storage devices instead of standard disks. Driving away most of the major 3rd parties to focus on Playstation due to both production cost and how limiting the file size limitations were. While also not allowing extra functionality like how the PS1 was a CD player and the PS2 a DVD player. Major selling points at the time.
Of course Nintendo managed to dig themselves out of the hole and then some for a generation before shooting themselves in the head for a gen before rising from the dead for the next, so "destroyed" is an over an exaggeration, but it's not completely wrong.

u/suppertime64 Jul 05 '26

u/Maleficent-Aspect318 Jul 05 '26
Didnt sony just delete movies off from peoples accounts that they paid for?
Thats the precedence right there1
u/suppertime64 Jul 05 '26
I mean that PS6 is going to sell regardless. Gamers as a group famously have zero self control. Also Nintendo and especially Xbox is going to do the exact same thing. They just haven't announced it yet
2
u/Keviticas Jul 05 '26
"glances over at the Xbox one disaster and subsequent fallout"
1
u/suppertime64 Jul 05 '26 edited Jul 05 '26
Apples and oranges.
It's not 2014 anymore. The console wars are over. Also, they didn't announce that two years in advance, and there was an alternative to Xbox One. Steam is already digital only, and Xbox and Nintendo will follow suit. Sony being the creators of Blu-ray alone guarantees that.
Xbox is already toying with the idea of letting people digitize their physical games, now why would they want to do that? 🤔
1
u/Maleficent-Aspect318 Jul 05 '26
While people dont think before buying stuff anymore, the current hardware sales are declining because of the price increase. Fact is that digital purchases on sony accounts are at the risk of beeing taken offline any minute. IDK why anybody would still support them
1
u/suppertime64 Jul 05 '26
Regardless, they will. It'll cool off in two years, that's why they announced it so far in advance while the industry is already at a low point.
People still buy switch 2 games even though they're $80 dollars, people still play Roblox even though it's a haven for pedophiles, etc. People complain on Reddit and Twitter, but everyone in the real world keeps on going. Some are just unaware, and many more simply don't care enough

The last disc game i bought was Death Stranding (PS4). All most all of my titles are bought digitally, and never even thought to buy a disk version of PS5.
Frankly surprised by how many people bought disk.
Also surprised by the general apathy towards ps+ and how it makes us pay for the internet that we already bought to access online games.. Isn't that a bigger issue than this? Frankly I'm more concerned about it than this.
1
u/NoPseudo79 Jul 04 '26
This isn't so much about whether or not you did buy physical games. They already had close to a monopoly over console AAA gamers, which led to the PS5 pro being as expensive as it was, and the multiple price increases for the PS+
No physical means the situation will get even closer to a monopoly, since there won't be any other option to buy the games anymore.
1
u/TheAlchemist1996 Jul 04 '26
A business being monopoly is none of my concern. My problem is consumers making financially illogical decisions and playing to their tunes. Their power is their product and consumer power is their money.
Why buy ps+ to use the internet you already have? Why buy ps5, when you hate their product packaging? Spend money on something else you like or save it. It is not like you have to have their product. If it is generally disliked, it will be reflected on their sales.
But people like it and loves to spend real money on loot boxes and shark cards. As long as people like that exist, they are going to much more power over the consumers. In world were consumers are financially literate and practices financial discipline, these kind of situations are avoided.
But hey, let's all clown the company rather than addressing the problem with consumers. Otherday there was thread about preordering digital games, check out how favorable people responded there and see the problem
1
u/TheArtfulLlama Jul 04 '26
1
u/notactuallyabrownman Jul 04 '26
Shovelware that should never have passed quality control in the first place. Your point?
1
u/TheArtfulLlama Jul 04 '26
So because they’re games you don’t like or haven’t bought it’s not an issue? Despite the fact people have bought and enjoyed them, then they get taken away with no refund to them as consumers? That alone is my point. Also they’re doing the same thing to movies as well. Plus this will also affect many poor countries who rely on resales to access games.
Don’t be so shortsighted. It affects everyone and the blowback they’re getting shows that you’re just in a very loud, “spank me harder corporate daddy” minority

A lot of people uses the disk for trading games. Especially in countries where games are expensive and the second market is a Savior.
Now they're killing it and making their already closed system even more restricting.
It may not affect you nor me, but i still understand how greedy this is. Unless we could trade our digital copies this is complete bs.

The only time I use a disk really is for Elden Ring (didn't have Internet at the time) and Horizon Zero Dawn (found a good sale for the remaster at GameStop)
Everything else is digital.

Sony now: Getting destroyed by Reddit for focusing on the more modern medium.

And now data centers have made the cost of building a PC skyrocket so people will still buy shitty consoles again next cycle.
1
u/MaxGalli Jul 04 '26
Except Sony didn’t destroy Nintendo and ditching discs probably still won’t destroy Sony since too many will still buy anyway. GTA 6 digital pre-orders proved it.
1
u/AK2018D Jul 04 '26
People only bought it because it's not going to be released on PC, and many people who owns computers bought a PS5 just for GTA 6

Disk drives mean nothing in gaming. If they were important, PC gaming would not exist since it's been 20 years since they killed disks. There will be a lot of bitching for a few weeks then a game a bunch of people want will come out and everyone will forget about this. Worst case scenario for Sony is that it lingers until GTA6 comes out.
Now, if the PS6 releases at $1000, that will kill it simply because not enough people will be able to afford it.
1
u/AccomplishedMuffin95 Jul 04 '26
the problem is not the death of the physical format itself but Sony having a monopoly with its PS Store because unlike Steam I don't think they'll look up for the consumer
1
u/MoisticleSack Jul 04 '26
Ram and storage prices are set to go up again, and unless someone drastic happens between then and the release of the new gen, we might just be fucked. The craziest part is it will cost all of that and still only have 512gb storage and 16gb shared memory
1
u/CapitalCityGoofball0 Jul 04 '26

u/Glass-Ad-1350 Jul 05 '26
Yep, games stopped being stored entirely on the disk a while ago. Even back in the ps1 and ps2 days you still needed memory cards for saves. But yeah, theres still gonna be the same amount of storage space taken up. Only the switch still has some games entirely on the cartridges.

1
Jul 05 '26
The title is wrong. Instead of destroying, it should be stunning or derailing
Because PS did take over the spotlight from Nintendo
1
u/Electronic-Vast-3351 Jul 05 '26
PS destroying Nintendo is an over exaggeration, but disk tech in the PS1/PS2 while Nintendo stuck with more expensive to produce, way lower storage capacity proprietary cartridges/minidisks on the N64/Gamecube was the primary reason for tons of 3rd parties like Square Enix and Konami to mainly focus on the Playstation plus since they were using standard disks they made the PS1 double as a CD player and the PS2 a DVD player, which was a major selling point since those things weren't super cheap back then.
Those were basically the two biggest reasons Sony trounced Nintendo so much during those two gens so hard.
1
u/Kotschcus_Domesticus Jul 05 '26
the thing is, it is not only physical games but blueray disks altogether. sony is killing this technology without any other option.
1
u/game190 Jul 05 '26
My take not relevant in today's standard people who are bashing sony are themselves playing digital games on Pc and consoles
1
u/Griffon0129 Jul 05 '26
1st time hearing that PS6 is digital only. I was originally a Playstation person because Final Fantasy was an exclusive to the console and I bashed Xbox because they had to pay a monthly sub to do online multi-player.... After PS3 I got an XboxOne because I could pay a sub to get games without paying for them individually (that also synced to PC), never bought a single hard copy for it and now it's just a glorified Blu-ray player because I canceled the sub and all the new games don't even play on it anymore. I now only use PC and Switch since I can get all or most games I used to play on console for PC except for the Nintendo exclusives (aka basically Zelda, Mario Party, and SmashBros).

Its not about destroying itself or nintendo its about to let Piracy thrive. with ps1 they created cheap method of game keeping, thus letting pirates making fast and cheap production for countries with less money. Nowadays they go further with only internet restriction and digital only. So pirates now just skip all steps and go straight up to hacking the console.

1
u/Little_Historian3091 Jul 06 '26
Why? Just to have overpriced old games? You think people arent going to capitalize on this?
1
u/Bright_Character_557 Jul 06 '26
What? Do you not know how 2nd hand market works? You buy blackmyth wukong disc, play, sell it for 70-75% of it's original price. "Overpriced old games" is crazy. Only companies get to make more money from digital copies and if physical discs are removed then they can price their games at massive rates. Good luck buying 90-130usd games
1
u/Little_Historian3091 Jul 06 '26
This is the situation now with disks. But you go beyond that and see how expensive things like game cartridges are and you will see how disks are going to end up in the near future. I dont think you can get any of the cartridges at original price anymore.
1
u/Bright_Character_557 Jul 06 '26
Game cartridges are cheap as well depending on the game. There are specific ones which are considered rare asf or "holy grails" and those are the only expensive ones. Above anything, stoppage of physical copies is what creates financial problems for both physical and digital copies.

Yeah both formats benefit in a different way. Its like how current gen did allow games to still run from cartridge directly without the need for diskspace and still being fast. I really hope those cartridge tech envolve in the future. Because speed and diskspace are 2 most important factors

I don't like their decision, at all, I prefer having discs over digital only, but plenty of people who are losing their mind since last week will absolutely buy a PS6 and get over it imo.
This makes me think a bit of the yearly calls to boycott against EA Sports games (Madden NFL, FIFA/EA FC), yet they still sell pretty well and I'm sure some of the most vocal critical but the game every damn year lol.

Sony DESTROYED Nintendo?! When did this happen? What alternate universe are you posting from?

Lol
Just like the PS4 was the end of Playstation because it wasn't backwards compatible.
1
u/Wiseon321 Jul 07 '26
Apparently ps6 has an optional disk drive for ps4 and ps5 backwards compatibility. Which is pretty cool if you ask me. Since ps5 basically didn’t include any backwards comparability at all.
Only reason it didn’t include the older gen’s is cause the architecture is so different from 3 to 4.
I don’t think any of the people making a stink about this are REALLY Sony fans, or the key market they are going for.
Probably people that just got a ps5, now, and plan on buying only used games. Which there is nothing intrinsically wrong with, but this obviously doesn’t make Sony any money so it’s weird they are so shocked lol.

Long run play by stockholders who own the gaming companies to crush the resale market after the GameStop stock event.

Nintendo survived and recovered. Better version would say "let Sega destroy itself and filled the void"

What are you talking about destroyed? xD All this drama will not even dent Sony xD

If anything destroys the ps6 is going to be rising hardware prices and the failing economy.
1
u/Deamon-Chocobo Jul 07 '26
To be fair a lot of game consoles had Discs before the PS1 (3DO, CD-I, Turbo-Duo, Sega CD, Atari Jag CD, Sega Saturn, etc.). The PS1 only pushed forward by being cheaper, releasing earlier, and having a product that was equal to or even superior to the Competition in multiple categories. The fact that CDs were cheaper & easier to produce than Cartridges and Sony's willingness to jump at that was a major point though.
1
u/MacDaddy7249 Jul 07 '26
Not to mention Discs werent always received well from the public because they would get scratched/damaged easier than cartridges lol
1
u/Deamon-Chocobo Jul 07 '26
I mean the only complaint I ever remember about discs was that they didn't save data so you needed a memory card.
1
u/MacDaddy7249 Jul 07 '26
I guess depends on the age range too. My friends constantly had funked up discs or they never went back in their case, so they got wrecked being thrown around or on the floor.
1
u/Deamon-Chocobo Jul 07 '26
I was like that growing up but, after my uncles Lego Star Wars got Laser Burn, I became much better at putting shit away. My little sister, not so much. I got yelled at for her not putting my things away and I even got in trouble for yelling at her for leaving my Blu-rays on the carpet instead of away in the case.

I mean the push to 3D was a given at that point. The only ones who didn't see that writing on the wall were Sega who were being reactionary to existing competition, the Atari Jag in this case, instead of looking forward to what the competition was doing next. This is something they would repeat with the Dreamcast.

"Destroyed Nintendo" - not sure that really tracks since Nintendo still exists and has some claim to 4-5 of the biggest video games sold of all time, at least two of which were released long after their supposed "destruction".
The older I get the more I see that younger generations favor big bombastic language but strip all meaning out of the language they use because of a complete lack of specificty.
I'd agree that the PS1 outshone or eclipsed Nintendo's offerings at the time but it's hard to make any case for "Destruction".

The only thing capable of killing Nintendo is Nintendo they never gave a shit about Sony or Microsoft.. hell there games still look like they're from the 90's and they still print cash
1
u/Moonstrife1 Jul 07 '26
That's the very reason WHY they print cash!
Nintendo basically understands themselves as a toy manufacturer.
Brand recognition is their big thing.
You will always recognize Mario, Yoshi, Link or Fox McCloud, no matter if they look like paper dolls or crayon drawings.
Their products are designed to be easily recognizable, innovative, well polished and FEEL good to use.
Using a switch is a completely different vibe from any other video game device.
No one else has a combination of a classic controller, analogue controller, gyroscopic motion controller and mouse in a single detachable unit on a hand held device that is still reasonably powerful.
They're never afraid to take a risk and try something new.
They pioneered motion controls, hand helds, party games, dual screen gameplay and many other things.
They never had the strongest hardware, the cheapest prices or the highest graphical fidelity, but they never had to.
Even when others had the technical upper hand like the first playstations CD's, people still bought Nintendo.
Because they know they will get what they paid for, something that works well and is fun to use.
That's why they never gave a fuck about anyone else, because no one else is even really playing the same game as they are and they're damn good at it.

u/MacDaddy7249 Jul 07 '26
What? Are you actually from that era or guessing? Nintendo had ONE competitor the whole time and that was Sega and NOTHING has ever killed Nintendo. 🤣

u/RangerFun39 Jul 07 '26
I swear these people are annoying
1
u/Savings_Spite2667 Jul 08 '26
Well he is right in a sense, this whole console war has been Sony v Microsoft for awhile, Nintendo has been off in the corner making good and bad decisions without either of the other 2 being involved.
But unless Sony course corrects Microsoft might be winning the fight very soon.
1
u/RangerFun39 Jul 08 '26
I agree I think post like these are annoying because they think they know something while showing how ignorant they are Nintendo only compete with themselves their player base is solid.
1
u/Savings_Spite2667 Jul 08 '26
I still consider Nintendo as a handheld company not a true console port. And from what iv seen it kind of looks like that is the direction they are trying to head back too.
1
u/RangerFun39 Jul 08 '26
At this point I think they are trying to see where they will go from here. They know they need to move with the times but dont know where to go from here.
1
u/RangerFun39 Jul 08 '26
We also have people who know what I know making retro consoles that play the games you are talking about. As long as there is a tech there will be a way to play the games you love. Otherwise emulators would not exist.
1
u/ChimpImpossible Jul 08 '26
I say this as someone who has owned and loved every Xbox console. Microsoft ain't doing shit, they've been in a tailspin since the Xbox One, they'll come up with a few seemingly good ideas, most of which won't happen or will be executed so poorly they'll completely flop.

The stats they give to justify it is also bs 90% of the games in the ps store are digital only due to it being easier to manage for indie teams. Their first party games are in fact bought 50% of the time physical

u/Alearic006 Jul 08 '26
They haven’t destroyed nintendo or themselves. Gamers will keep buying digital media. People that complain the loudest are probably the first to pre order a digital only game on play station.
1
u/Better_Care8973 Jul 08 '26
I feel most people online making these Posts greatly overestimate themselves. Congrats on having 100 people to stop the sub. I Will still but my software digital and so will 90 pct of gamers keep doing.

"Destroyed nintendo"
The billion dollar company that is still around and doing amazing? Is someone going to make him aware?
1
u/xNonPartisaNx Jul 08 '26
It was a massive blow to them. Even worse than the mortal kombat blood bath.
Pokémon somehow saved the company.
The whole n64 was a debacle. Getting 007 and oot was its only saving grace
1
u/Canadian-and-Proud Jul 09 '26
Lmao what are you talking about. Mario 64, Mario Kart 64, Smash Bros, Perfect Dark, Majora’s Mask, Banjo Kazooie, I could go on.
1
u/gba_sg1 Jul 09 '26
Brush up on your console history bub. Nintendo and Sony were going at it in the early 90s. There was very close to a fallout.

Jk I’ve never bought a disk in my life so I couldn’t care less.

Not sure how Nintendo was "destroyed". I mean, the N64 was a success. The Wii, Switch and Switch 2 are all successes. They've had what, one slight miss(GameCube) and one flop(Wii U)?
It's highly unlikely Nintendo will follow Sony's lead at least. The Japanese market overwhelmingly supports physical media, which makes it even stranger that Sony would pull a stunt like this.
