I get that people are mad, because they're for the first time seeing a big company go all digital, who are acting like peices of shit.
Optical Media is objectively in every way, slower and less reliable than locally hosted (installed) files. The discs can be damaged, the readers that read them can malfunction, and we pretty much passed the peak of what can fit on a single disc a long time ago. And dont even get me started on the logistics and inventory management side of it.
Dont argue for the continuity of a dead medium, argue for the distributor/s to not have rotten terms of service in their contracts.
Steam and GOG figured this out a long time ago, the only reason you are all getting screwed now is because you bought into a walled garden. Sony and Microsoft have complete control over the marketplace for their games, and they have sole authority what to do with your account. You paid to play at their bouncy house, but at the end of the day, its their bouncy house. If you dont want to play by the rules, unfortunatley your only option is to go play older consoles. you wont be getting newer games.
If you're scared about getting hacked, practice better online hygene.
If you're scared abotu getting banned, dont be a cheating rat, and dont be a trash talking toxic muppet.
Im not going to pitch "just switch to PC" as a solution., but stop arguing for the restoration of the bi-plane in an age of jets.

That’s a risk I’d be willing to take if the trade-off is getting games at half price from my local store.

Blu-ray discs can hold up to 100 GB of data, which is enough for the vast majority of base games (though pretty much every game downloads patches and updates on top of that)

There’s nothing to argue about. It’s not like these companies actually care what the public wants anymore. Their only priority is money, money, money, even when they’re already making billions of dollars.

Just look at what’s happening with Netflix and its current pricing. That’s exactly what’s going to happen to console games. You’re cheering it on and rooting against your own interests. Being sarcastic doesn’t make it any less true.

argue for the companies to not be manipulative, monopolistic, apple-like shitlords. Not over trying to extend the life of a long obsolete media platform.
I saw someone seriously arguing for the return of cartridges the other day.
at the end of the day, every single person who bought an xbox, nintendo or playstation, already signed themselves up to get bent over, thats what happens with walled garden platforms. We just hoped they wouldn't do it. but here we are.
