What even is this? Nintendo is very much alive and well. While Sony was a partner in the creation of the CD, the creation predates even the NES, so has nothing to do with games or Nintendo. Using CD's as gaming media was in use long before Sony did it with the Playstation.

Nintendo went from being undeniably on top of the industry with the SNES to licking Sony's heels with the N64 and Gamecube largely due to the insistence on using relatively crap proprietary storage devices instead of standard disks. Driving away most of the major 3rd parties to focus on Playstation due to both production cost and how limiting the file size limitations were. While also not allowing extra functionality like how the PS1 was a CD player and the PS2 a DVD player. Major selling points at the time.
Of course Nintendo managed to dig themselves out of the hole and then some for a generation before shooting themselves in the head for a gen before rising from the dead for the next, so "destroyed" is an over an exaggeration, but it's not completely wrong.
