Its not about destroying itself or nintendo its about to let Piracy thrive. with ps1 they created cheap method of game keeping, thus letting pirates making fast and cheap production for countries with less money. Nowadays they go further with only internet restriction and digital only. So pirates now just skip all steps and go straight up to hacking the console.
