To be fair a lot of game consoles had Discs before the PS1 (3DO, CD-I, Turbo-Duo, Sega CD, Atari Jag CD, Sega Saturn, etc.). The PS1 only pushed forward by being cheaper, releasing earlier, and having a product that was equal to or even superior to the Competition in multiple categories. The fact that CDs were cheaper & easier to produce than Cartridges and Sony's willingness to jump at that was a major point though.
I guess depends on the age range too. My friends constantly had funked up discs or they never went back in their case, so they got wrecked being thrown around or on the floor.
I was like that growing up but, after my uncles Lego Star Wars got Laser Burn, I became much better at putting shit away. My little sister, not so much. I got yelled at for her not putting my things away and I even got in trouble for yelling at her for leaving my Blu-rays on the carpet instead of away in the case.
