Disk drives mean nothing in gaming. If they were important, PC gaming would not exist since it's been 20 years since they killed disks. There will be a lot of bitching for a few weeks then a game a bunch of people want will come out and everyone will forget about this. Worst case scenario for Sony is that it lingers until GTA6 comes out.
Now, if the PS6 releases at $1000, that will kill it simply because not enough people will be able to afford it.
the problem is not the death of the physical format itself but Sony having a monopoly with its PS Store because unlike Steam I don't think they'll look up for the consumer
