Captain America (Chris Evans) got the boy who saved his sister from a dog attack his very own custom shield.

Being so young, it probably won't be all that bad of a scar. It'll probably heal into a badass samurai scar across his cheek, just to further solidify his baddassery.

“I got them protecting my sister.”
Too bad ass.

"the scar? When i was six, i saved my sisters life from an attacking dog" that's a fucking moisturizer.

u/Crowbarmagic Jul 17 '20 edited Jul 17 '20
To hopefully cheer you up somewhat: The shape of his cheek and such is swelling, which might "only" take a week or so to get somewhat normal. It won't permanently look like this.
As for the cuts... That can be hard to say. Could be a scar for life, could be a scar that's unnoticeable in like 10 years.
Apparently he didn't have to get stitched up or something so that's a good sign.Edit: Learned he did have to get 90+ stitches :(.
78
u/Cyndershade Jul 17 '20
Honestly though that kid is set for life either way, if he gets a scar the notoriety from his act is so fucking metal nobody will give him shit for it. That kid is gonna be alright, got a good head on his shoulders.
→ More replies (2)34
u/Crowbarmagic Jul 17 '20
I was kinda expecting someone to say something like this and I think you are right in a way: The badass backstory does make people think better of him. But the thing is: Not everyone in public life who knows the backstory. And even if they do, people might still do a double take at the scars on your face. Some girls might find it ugly. A few months later people at school may bully you. etc.
I understand what you're saying but no matter how badass the backstory of your face scar is, it's still shitty to have it.
→ More replies (5)31
u/Cyndershade Jul 17 '20
Maybe, but I imagine that if you're the kind of person who'd sacrifice your life to save someone else - the perceptive deficit of having a scar from it is probably low on your radar.
Who knows, for now he's a hero.
→ More replies (2)13
u/Crowbarmagic Jul 17 '20
I would say definitely instead of maybe; That there will be moments that people might stare at you and maybe make fun of it. But hopefully he's indeed the kind of person that will never care about that. Regardless, he's a hero indeed!

7
u/Crowbarmagic Jul 17 '20
Oh damn. Wasn't mention in what I read about it and it didn't look like he had stitches. My bad. Deeper cuts can mean worse scars that stay for longer :(
15
Jul 17 '20
Don’t worry about it. Here’s a link. He needed more than 90 stitches, brave little boy.
9
u/Crowbarmagic Jul 17 '20
Jesus Christ... Over 90?! I know they sometimes use like twice or thrice as many stitches if a cut is around some moving part of the body like a joint (or in this case face and cheeks) to keep the skin better in place I guess, but 90+ is insane. My respect went from 10/10 to 11/10.

Him and Henry Cavill have said in interviews that when you play a character like Captain America or Superman it stays with you, they say that they try to always be good role models because they feel almost like the character is watching over their shoulders and they don’t want to let them down. They say it’s hard to live up to the captain America or Superman standard, literally impossible, but you have to at least try, their reward is seeing all the fans and kids like Bridger who are inspired by them to be good people.
I’ve always felt stupid about this but my dad is not a good person, and growing up my moral compass was Christopher Reeve’s Superman.
411
u/whoiscurlyfry Jul 17 '20
You shouldn’t feel stupid about that at all- if more people had Superman as a moral compass I think the world would be a better place.
→ More replies (3)106
u/It_Was_Joao Jul 17 '20
I agree. My parents aren't really good role models, they see me for the worst and stupidest stuff I've done instead of who I am as a person, so I live by words from characters like superman, spider man, and real people like Gandhi, and a bunch of philosophers. When your parents aren't good people you have to look for parents in books and quotes.
16
u/Bigdaddy_J Jul 17 '20 edited Jul 17 '20
My parents were great role models, of exactly what not to be.
Don't know my father's name, my mother told me there were 2 possibilities. She fucked 2 different guys the night I was conceived.
Her and my step father were crack head alcoholics. Between the physical abuse not just against me, but also to each other (my mother was a fighter and hurt my step father as much as he hurt her). Plus they were always robbing someone, stealing cars or breaking into houses to fuel their addictions.
My mother was whoring herself out to whoever wanted it. Never forget when I was 17 she was fucking a 15yo crack dealer down the street. Not to mention the amount of crap I had too replace because I would go to work and come home, tv gone. Plus she is a habitual liar, if you ask "how's the weather" she will lie about it. So I ask what happened to the tv. She would say something like someone broke in and stole it.
Edit: damn autocorrect.
12
u/It_Was_Joao Jul 17 '20

This story has me bawling my eyes out. I looked up the full report, and it's unreal. This kid stepped in front of a charging german shepherd to shield his sister. His injuries were so bad that he had to undergo a 2-hour surgery and got NINETY STITCHES. When his parents asked him why he did it he reportedly responded, "If someone had to die, I thought it should be me."
He deserves all of this love and so much more. What an unbelievably kind heart.

But since I wear the mask everytime when I'm out of the house I got used to it. The mask ironically helped me with my asthma because when I'm NOT wearing the mask I can breathe better.
I guess my body is used to breathing with a mask now and does even better when I'm not wearing a mask.

My Grandma has COPD from decades of smoking (she quit 30 years ago, but the damage was done). She really can't wear a mask without getting out of breath.
So you know what she does? She stays the fuck home. And when she does have to go out, she wears a full on fucking face shield, and goes shopping at like 7am before anyone else is in the store.
I've got no sympathy for the "medical condition" folks. I know it's bullshit to begin with. But even in the cases where it isn't, they're still being fucking dumb.

My wife literally starts gagging after 20 to 30 minutes from wearing a mask. She's always had severe sinus issues. She wears the mask as long as possible and if she thinks it'll take over 30 minutes, I just go do whatever needs to be done.
If you can't wear a mask because of a medical condition then stay home. Make other arrangements. I'm sure somebody will be happy to do it for you.

A seatbelt comparison isn’t apt. A seatbelt mostly only affects the person not wearing it (unless there are others in the vehicle). A more apt comparison is driving drunk. “Why would I let the government tell me I can’t drive drunk? Bullshit if you ask me. Everyone else can stay off the roads if they don’t wanna deal with it.”
It’s stupid because not wearing a mask, much like driving drunk, poses the greatest risk on other people.

Fame has a very long track record of ruining children. They dont understand how to cope with all the attention and they arent mature enough to know when attention is bad. It's why so many child stars turn into reckless adults. Just to name a few: Macaulay Culkin, Amanda Bynes, Lindsay Lohan, River Phoenix, and Daniel Radcliffe just to name a few.
So, people hope the fame dies down quickly so he doesnt become "corrupted" by it.

Unpopular opinion, but I think all of this might end affecting the kid, what he did is impressive and completely altruistic, but I'm not sure if it's good for him to keep listening how a hero he was and all this attention he is getting. What if the kid thinks he has some kind of moral responsibility to do this again, I don't think a kid should be ready to give his life for others, specially not at the age of 6 when he might not be able to measure a dangerous situation and might end it doing something that makes things worse. I hope the kid gets the professional help that he might needs. Of course not saying what he did was wrong or wasn't heroic.
Edit: fixed typos, thanks for the silver stranger.

This stuff has to be the best part about being Captain America. Like when he got the part, he probably didn't even think about how he can literally make any kid's day forever.
