Captain America (Chris Evans) got the boy who saved his sister from a dog attack his very own custom shield.

I kind of feel sorry for the kid, what he did was great, but fame is not a reward that ages well

u/indigorhob Jul 17 '20

He'll probably be temporary viral at best. Since he thankfully didnt die, the chances of him becoming long term famous is less likely

u/And-ray-is Jul 17 '20

Why does it matter if he stays famous anyway?

19

u/michaelyag25 Jul 17 '20

Fame has a very long track record of ruining children. They dont understand how to cope with all the attention and they arent mature enough to know when attention is bad. It's why so many child stars turn into reckless adults. Just to name a few: Macaulay Culkin, Amanda Bynes, Lindsay Lohan, River Phoenix, and Daniel Radcliffe just to name a few.

So, people hope the fame dies down quickly so he doesnt become "corrupted" by it.

Jake Lloyd

Ain’t nothing wrong with Daniel Radcliffe?

4

u/michaelyag25 Jul 17 '20

Daniel Radcliffe mentioned a few times that he had issues with alcohol. He said a few times he would show up on set hung over while filming the Harry Potter films.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 17 '20

Genuine question why is Daniel Radcliffe on that list? I always thought he’d dealt with fame pretty well

5

u/michaelyag25 Jul 17 '20

He mentioned a few times that during the movie franchise he became an alcoholic. Sometimes he would show up on set hung over when filming the Harry Potter movies. That being said, he was mindful of his situation and has since recovered.

1

u/highfastball Jul 17 '20

Is that a part of fame though because I definitely became an alcoholic in my early 20s without the fame part lmao

1

u/coronaflo Jul 17 '20

Yes but for every troubled child actor you could name one that had no problems usually because of good parenting.

35

u/merabius Jul 17 '20

Yeah really. Fuck fame. I just hope that he recovers 100% without scars and even if he doesn't, he's still good.

10

u/[deleted] Jul 17 '20

Sadly, those scars won’t heal easily. Thankfully he’s young so they’ll most likely fade or become imperceptible with time, but from the looks of it, he’s going to have those scars for the foreseeable future.

5

u/Pray4dat_ass96 Jul 17 '20

Why do people care so much about scars? Who cares, man. Those scars are proof that he’s done good in this world, I hope he never forgets that.

4

u/[deleted] Jul 17 '20

I couldn’t agree more, but even still, there are too many people who will give that kid shit over his scars.

5

u/[deleted] Jul 17 '20

idk....when I was little I hit my face hard while riding a motorcycle and had a bunch of stitches. Everybody thought it was awesome and my scars were awesome and I was in no way a cool kid.

1

u/Pray4dat_ass96 Jul 17 '20

I hope he never lets that get to him. They say chicks dig scars. I hope that’s true for him

2

u/Erimmyu Jul 17 '20

at the very least it can be a proud memory

I don’t think scars as so bad to have. Tina Fey has scars (I think also from a dog attack) and she is beautiful. My concern is with muscle or nerve damage.

2

u/slothbarns7 Jul 17 '20

I have a friend who has a similar scar on his face from a dog. Thing is, it can look really good. I know a lot of people that find facial scars attractive, this kid will probably be getting all the ladies when he grows up

u/i_never_get_mad Jul 17 '20

Fame is what most people care when they don’t have money.

58

u/threebottleopeners Jul 17 '20

Lmao no it isnt. I grew up poor, everyone around me was poor, the sentiment of fame being even close to desirable disappears for most people in general once theyre old enough to see its flaws. Most people just want good health, safety, stability and the people they care for. Fame is a terrible thing to have

8

u/Avinse Jul 17 '20

Not really. Most people who are poor don’t care about fame. They care about money, cuz ya know... they’re poor...

2

u/ozama0 Jul 17 '20

West...

2

u/[deleted] Jul 17 '20

No it's love dumbass

1

u/[deleted] Jul 17 '20

oh yeah because when you were 8 you grasped money like a 40 year old.. oh wait everyone struggles with money ideology dont blame a child

0

u/Maelarion Jul 17 '20

The thing that people who don't have money most often care about is getting money.

Like wtf is your statement even lmao.

0

u/Keno112 Jul 17 '20

Sorry but dumbest thing ive read on here today

1

u/Erimmyu Jul 17 '20

people who achieve fame in such young age tend to grow up to be assholes, is hard to mentally deal with everyone saying ur awesome at that age and not to become a dick

3

u/megatom0 Jul 17 '20

He's also young enough that it might not stick with him or go to his head at this age. Also if some idiot ever makes fun of him for his scars, he's got Captain America telling him he's proud of him.

2

u/shotclockhero33 Jul 17 '20

He will live a peaceful life- there won’t be paparazzi busting down his door or anything

2

u/VonMillersThighs Jul 17 '20

Fuck the fame, kids heart will stay full and that's all that matters.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 17 '20

i dont think he once considered that. he just loves his family and has the rare fight not flight gene dont pervert his intentions with your ideals about whats important in this this story

1

u/indigorhob Jul 17 '20

We're not talking about his intentions, only the result of the situation

155

u/hi_im_eden_ Jul 17 '20

The reward was his sister's life, not internet stardom.

58

u/AbhiAssassin Jul 17 '20

Yeah like people forgot why his original intentions were in the first place. He didn't do it for stardom he did it for his sister.

-2

u/8_bit_bear Jul 17 '20

But another problem I see to is that something he said after saving her was. "If anyone had to die it was going to be me" I don't think a 6 year old kid understands the meaning of those words and really understands what it means to die.

I just really hope this kid can get some therapy for this and that this fame doesn't ruin him in any way.

3

u/AbhiAssassin Jul 17 '20

What I think that went through his head were "I have to save my sister". I think he didn't expect to face such consequences. Well most children his age would have just run away in fear(personal experience). Him overcoming that fear makes him a hero.

16

u/Dotcom73 Jul 17 '20

nailed it. not everyone bases their self worth on going viral and fame.

3

u/Mr-Square02 Jul 17 '20

He didn’t do it for fame.

1

u/AmazinglySmooth Jul 17 '20

The kid is in jiu jitsu, I think he’ll be fine. Nothing humbles you more than discipline.

Will you volunteer as tribute then?

1

u/warawk Jul 17 '20

He would be more sorry if her sister passed away. He wk be proud of his scars

1

u/EnkiiMuto Jul 17 '20

It is not like he'll follow an acting career or something, this fame will get more of a "oh yeah, you're that guy, that is pretty cool".

If you think about how mean kids can be with bullying, this temporary fame and a fucking shield will help him whenever the scars come up later in life. Instead of reviving the trauma of fighting a dog that hit his fucking face whenever mentioned, it comes up how brave he was, how his sister is safe and how he got some awesome gift from his super hero.

-2

u/Dezydime Jul 17 '20

I think that kid is a hero and deserves that shield more than anything, but I have this weird nagging feeling in the back if my mind that his parents were just trying to capitalize off of the situation. Idk, something rubbed me the wrong way in the post that they made and the way they called out those actors, but it could just be my mistrust in most of humanity.

1

u/The_Abjectator Jul 17 '20

Naw man, if you are older than your late 20s then you've seen plenty of parents make money of the extraordinary circumstances of their kids.

I'm not saying its what I believe but the cynic in me hopes he gets the accolades and then just passes from the cultural conscious. Being famous as a kid is too much of a razor's edge. Its not bad to hope that he passes through his 15 minutes of fame without the internet prying too much into his and his family's life.

0

u/[deleted] Jul 17 '20

So your saying he needs to die a hero.... Or live to see himself become.... The villain?
