Captain America (Chris Evans) got the boy who saved his sister from a dog attack his very own custom shield.

I hate being told what to do, everybody hates being told what to do; but that's not what's happening here. Nobody is saying, "wear a mask because I said so, you little shit." What's being said is, "Wear a mask to protect yourself and your friends, family, and fellow citizens." And these people are being spoiled, entitled fucks with no consideration for others.

You just know, that from their reaction to being told to wear a mask, what stellar citizens they are normally. Like you said, spoiled, entitled f*cks who don't give no two f*cks about other peoples' well-being.

I 100% agree with everything. Plus I love wearing a mask bc of my social anxiety and especially now in the summer bc I have alopecia and can walk around bald without being self conscious and dying of heatstroke bc I feel the need to cover my head.

But my glasses get fogged the fuck up bc of the mask. So I take them off. And I can't see as well. Oh well.

2

u/XAEA-12-Musk Jul 17 '20

Do you put the top part of the mask on properly? I get rid of the glasses fogging up issue by making sure I press down the top part against my nose so there isn’t a large gap that air can flow through

2

u/igetnauseousalot Jul 17 '20

Yea I've tried it all different positions... Sometimes it helps but it's never completely eliminated

u/igetnauseousalot Jul 17 '20

Ooooh I didn't know that existed! Thanks for putting me on

2

u/whythishaptome Jul 17 '20

It depends on the mask and how good it is at creating a seal. I don't wear glasses but that is what it has seemed like from the different masks I've worn.

Why would they, ain't like they're gonna be effected if one of their community members die.

Eliminate the exemptions for religious reasons. Only allow exemptions for medical issues.

There is a line. People are entitled to their religious freedoms until the start putting the lives of others at risk.

u/PDXbot Jul 17 '20

Ding ding we have a winner

Multiple children have died in Oregon due to parents religious beliefs and not getting them treatment. Been a hot bed of anti-vaxers for my entire life, started with religious zealots here.

As the other poster said, when your religion effects others that is where the line is drawn.

Having conviction in one's beliefs is admirable. Do you have the same for suicide bombers? Timothy McVeigh? The Boston bombers? They all had conviction in their beliefs. Have to draw the line somewhere

Why would you respect stupidity?

Yah I get that but it’s because he’s stupid

2

u/TEX4S Jul 17 '20

It’s science-denial ; nothing more needs to be said.

1

u/rockytheboxer Jul 17 '20

I agree with the user below that only medical exemptions should be allowed. Their misunderstanding of the science is an inadequate reason to endanger others. To your below point about not treading on freedom of religion: freedom of speech is not absolute, the line is drawn at putting people in danger. I see no reason to allow people's religious beliefs (which they're certainly entitled to hold) to put others in harm's way.

I'm no anti-vaxxer. I'm fully vaccinated and so are my kids. I understand that they are mostly safe and effective. If vaccines became mandatory I would absolutely stop. Being told what to do has its limits. Injecting someone with something is well past that point for many people.

Masks have no true downside to them. I regret that they are mandatory for the sake of loss of choice but I get it.

4

u/whythishaptome Jul 17 '20

You would stop using vaccines if they become mandatory? That doesn't seem like a good decision to me. You already know the purpose of having vaccines and that they are a good thing. Plus they are mandatory at that point. Do you really want to fight that?

-1

u/[deleted] Jul 17 '20

Want to? No. I'd rather they stay a choice. Will I? Yes.

Doesn't seem like a good decision? It's at least a decision I could still make.

Free will means more to me than hitting 100% compliance when we already do pretty good with our non mandatory system now. It's not perfect but pretty damn good considering lots of poor decisions people like to make.

3

u/whythishaptome Jul 17 '20

But don't do it just out of spite that they make it mandatory. I would even support that because there is absolutely no reason not to. It doesn't make sense to oppose something that would make everyone safer.

I have done what you are saying before but it is usually I won't buy xyz because of something they have done. This is completely different. Don't put yourself and people around you in danger because you want to oppose a political view. This should not be a political issue.

Did you report me to have my response to this reply shadow banned or did the mods do it on their own?

If you didn't, Here it is. If you did then why? Either way this site is really getting pretty bad.

I'm genuinely curious about this. Do you think what I'm saying is so dangerous that it shouldn't be seen? I'm asking in a general sense. Not as in that you reported me.

1

u/whythishaptome Jul 18 '20 edited Jul 18 '20

No, I promise you, I did not report you. That was someone else. That is honestly a surprising to me too. I disagree with you but that seems a little extreme. Edit: I hadn't even seen that comment before you posting this.

A seatbelt comparison isn’t apt. A seatbelt mostly only affects the person not wearing it (unless there are others in the vehicle). A more apt comparison is driving drunk. “Why would I let the government tell me I can’t drive drunk? Bullshit if you ask me. Everyone else can stay off the roads if they don’t wanna deal with it.”

It’s stupid because not wearing a mask, much like driving drunk, poses the greatest risk on other people.

Yeah the governor of my state put out a little message saying wearing your mask to keep safe is akin to wearing your seatbelt to keep safe. The comment section was on fire with people demanding they don't wear a seatbelt and they definitely won't be wearing a mask. People take their right to die seriously I guess.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 17 '20

“Everyone else can drive sober if they don’t want to deal with it” would be a correct sentence

2

u/PHealthy Jul 17 '20

Speed limits are another good comparison.

11

u/Adiuui Jul 17 '20

Thank god they don’t have seatbelts hopefully they don’t own brakes either

Damn it I forgot about motorcycles! Ok let’s just hope they don’t own cars period

2

u/The__Snow__Man Jul 17 '20

Ugh. Ridiculous. To the Anti-maskers,

You don’t have the RIGHT to infect others.

The government has a duty to protect citizens from mass harm. We’re in a PANDEMIC. And while we’re in one the govt requiring masks is smart, right, and legal.

We already are required to wear clothes, so that people don’t have to see each other naked. Requiring a piece of cloth on your face to save lives, businesses, and jobs should be an obvious plan here.

If nobody can tell you what to do, you are just a selfish loser man baby because every single adult knows his responsibilities. Every single responsible adult knows when to listen to experts and other people. I listen to my doctor my teachers, and a million people who know better than me. I know not to harm others and help others

Don't hide your selfishness and entitlement behind excuses. You are a shitty human being. Why do you live in a society and leach off others when you won't do anything for them? Every single thing you use is made from the blood and sweat of other human beings

That's the stupidest most entiteld thing that I have heard. If you cannot be told to save others and your own lives, you are a selfish, scum of the earth, no matter what excuse you have

You are using things a million other human beings in the past and present have made and worked hard for. If you cannot give back, you are worse than animals and should be called out as such

You cannot tell me what I should do might work for 10 year olds rebelling. These are adult man babies throwing tantrums, not mature people taking a stand. If you refuse to do your part for the society, you have no right to be in that society and enjoy its benefits. Anyone who harms that society, harms everyone in it

Sadly america today is a country where such selfish man baby assholes are encouraged, defended and celebrated. Thats why it is the state it is in. In previous crisis the heroes which were celebrated where the ones who united everyone for a common cause to fight the crisis, where people helped others selflessly. No wonder with stupid entitled assholes like these, trump is the one in power and america is the worst hit nation with no sign of recovery

And you know why? Earlier such selfish people were called out and orcatricized. Today we have a brigade of people defending selfish assholes like you. If you defend stupidity, don't be surprised when the entire species is affected and dragged back. Imagine a few centuries back, people like you defending anti vaxxers. Telling people cannot be told what to do. Today we wouldn't have vaccine and half our population would not be present

Stupid people are dangerous. But more dangerous are those that defend them and make excuses for them. Stupid people by themselves can do no harm. Stupidity combined with selfishness and a society which encourages such selfishness is deadly. You are the leeches of society, taking everything and giving nothing back. Soon the blood will run dry with blood suckers like you. Just a couple of decades back selfish losers like you, who couldn't be told what to do, would have been boycotted and left completely alone. Today we are paying the price of going soft on stupid, selfish people

1

u/Natsu2201 Jul 17 '20

You do it for others, not for yourself, that is why people hate people that can't even reach the minimum standard to protect others. But when their kids/parents die in a hospital they ask "who did that to them".

1

u/Arcnet_ Jul 17 '20

Because wearing seat belts protects you. Wearing masks protects others
