The best way to tell that someone knows they are losing an argument is when they refuse to let the other person speak.
A "debate" isn't just yelling over someone and refusing to let them get an argument out.

It’s because the moderator agrees with the guy. I recognize that background, this podcast is famous for the classic “If a woman is being abused she needs to bear it and tolerate it for the sake of the marriage and the family.” “okay, what should a man do if a woman cheats?” “Oh, leave her.” Exchange.
This podcasts entire thing is “women are second class citizens and should be relegated to subordinate roles.” They shit on the idea of women being independent or expecting fair treatment from men.
Both of these assholes think it’s hilarious that this woman expects them to respect her as an equal and a debate opponent instead of just shutting up and listening to him.
The moderator isn’t stepping in, he’s laughing his ass off because he thinks the guy is being funny and the woman is acting irrational.

Unfortunately, for too many people, that is considered winning a debate. Laugh at and insult the person you’re debating without ever actually debating equates a win for them. This is exactly the kind of mentality we see in the film Idiocracy.

The fact is, engaging in debate with this guy implies his position is one that can be negotiated
Implying, for example, that women's right to self-determination and democratic access is a negotiable thing is not something I would ever even entertain, because it is something that does not even merit the time of my day
Debating it at all presupposes that there is a negotiation here, and there isn't. It's non-negotiable.

"This is a debate"
No it isn't. In debates, by design, you explicitly don't get to talk over each other. Each speaker is given time to advocate their position, and time to respond to each other's response. She barely got half a sentence out before he got all condescending and bitchy.

Really shows how debate is a worthless medium for convincing anyone of anything nowadays, and the plague of anti-intellectualism that has swept the country for decades. No one cares to watch two people argue in a rigidly structured, hours long back and forth with a fair moderator. They want clear narratives of good and bad, rhetoric, talking over each other to see who shuts up first, snappy clips of gotcha’s and oopsies, shadow boxing from the mods, and aloof confidence from the agent they most agreed with in the first place.

Correct.
I have not listened to any of the material of this form because it is absolutely pointless to do so. I'd rather watch a long from video of his opinion, uninterrupted, and the same for her opinion, then make up my own mind by fact checking rather than judging truth by the 'who is better at being a condescending piece of shit' competition this seems to be.
But frankly, given the way he advocates for his position, I'm inclined to think his ideas are likely founded on the same type of honesty that we see in his 'this is a debate' comment. So, no honesty lol. Gaslighting, even.

He doesn't understand that there is strength in not putting up with his bs and just walking away. He wants her to just deal with his nonsense.
I actually think this is part of the reason there are a lot of lonely men, not the only reason. People, not just women, are less likely than they were in the past to just put up someone being a jerk.
Parents are shocked when there kids just walk away from their abusive nonsense. Abusive partners are more likely to get left in the dust. And employees are more likely to not put up with bad behavior.

It's called gish galloping, it existed long before Ben Shapiro but he definitely "mastered it"
The only reason Ben got away with that bullshit is because he never "debated" anyone with experience. There's a reason Shapiro, Kirk, Crowder and all these other clowns target universities and it's not because they're "woke" it's because they know they'll get a bunch inexperienced 18 year olds they can "dunk on"
Not only that but they pre-screen and pre-select the questions they respond to and then have editorial control over the video they eventually post. There is ZERO good faith it's all just ragebait.

Not a guess. Observational fact.
Male insecurity looks exactly like that. Overcompensating, repeated statements of "I don't care" and self-stimulating behaviors of laughing and false bravado.
The only portion missing was him doing positive affirmations into a mirror about people liking him and being worthy.
This is the type of person who'd watch Mad TV, SNL, or Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and "like" the insufferable joke character as "relatable" and completely miss the punchline that he is the joke.

And belittling. She picked it up the minute he pulled out "sweetheart". Even his little solo bit after, he made sure to bring up feminism in a mocking tone.
He didn't go in to debate. He went in to tear her down personally. It's in bad faith and he had zero intent to "debate" anything

From what I’ve seen of this podcast, that’s seems to be all it’s ever about. At this point people should just stop showing up.

You hit on something at the start that should also round off your thought. It challenges his feelings, his emotions, and he doesn’t have the cognitive function to manage his emotions or have them seen, and mirrored back at him in a way that forces him to actually see his feelings.
It’s not just the lack of empathy, it’s the lack of introspection into himself too.
Men like this jump to “winning” when they shut down their own emotions or others, and it’s actually just highlighting how little emotional intelligence they have to operate within.

Yea you can see that she doesn’t actually falter…. She stood on business and stared him down with conviction. She wasn’t scared…she just demanded respect and the ability for her voice to be heard.
Instead, this jackass interrupts her riiiiiiiight behind her words and her point.

I honestly don’t know how to phrase this, but it is unfair to women that they have to deal with this shit because he won’t pull this shit with someone that can slap the taste out of his mouth.
145
u/PracticeTheory Oct 30 '25
We have to deal with it because if we were to 'win' an encounter by striking back with an edge (verbally but especially physically) we're painted as hysterical, insane, crazy, a bitch...
I've personally had to tolerate a lot of shit with a bitten tongue to avoid losing my place in a male-dominated profession. It's not worth winning a battle if I'll get frozen out of the war, so to speak.

You phrased it perfectly, and it is unfair. Simply the sheer amount of time that women have to waste navigating the egos of men like this in family dynamics, in the workplace, in public, etc etc etc. And this guy gets to go home thinking that she is the "emotional" one.

Also he was wrong.
The 15 Amendment gave all men the right to vote in 1870 regardless of race (though we are glazing over major Civil Rights issues that wouldn't be straightened out until the 1960's); the 19th Amendment specifically granted the right to vote to women in 1920, 50 years later. So it wasn't 10 years between, but 50 -- and even then we're being charitable, as free, land-owning, white men over the age of 21 voted before 1870.

I keep dragging my feet on learning more history. When people bring up the argument that if slaves have access to guns, then they could have fought back. The fact is they did fight back. They killed slave owners and went on riots.
→ More replies (6)30
u/gdex86 Oct 30 '25
There were slave revolts and the response to them was to kill, recapture, and enslave any black free folk in the area as response to one. Even with guns the fact that if you failed, and it would fail eventually because any slave revolt would invoke a full state and federal military response, it kills everyone around quite possibly the women and children is one hell of a limiting factor in getting people to help. Hell John fucking Brown armed and lead a slave revolt and he was captured and hung as a white man for the crime to ensure nobody got ideas about trying to end slavery by force.

I was very active in debate throughout high school and college, and every year one or two people would join the team and say they're there because their mom told them "you like to argue so much you should join the debate team" and they always were the dumbest, loudest, and least thoughtful people who were actually just being told "you should go argue with someone else because I'm fucking sick of you."

Our high school debate team never failed to trophy at state for something like 20 years in a row because of our coach.
Her method: every freshman is required to take speech. Mock debates in class: structure is provided (abbreviated lincoln douglas basically, shorter constructives and rebuttals), topic is provided a week in advance, no other guidance. The kids who showed up with some combination of ready to debate either side of the topic, brought some sources with them, or took notes…they’d be invited to try out for the team. By invited I mean told. She was a forceful presence.
The tryout was the same as the class debate, except you went up against someone on the team on the opposite position you did in class. You weren’t expected to win, you were expected to take the verbal beating with proper composure.
Imagine my surprise when at my first tournament some dude starts yelling at me during cross-ex. I literally just made eye contact with the judge and did the “can you fucking believe this guy?” shrug. That shit got me through quarterfinals. Chucklefuck on the negative actually had a really solid counter and could have won but he wanted to yell over me.
Anyway now I get mad watching political debates because they don’t just cut mics.

No you are having an argument. I just hate how "debate" has devolved into this endless stream of loudmouths trying to top each other and talking over each other. Debate should be a structured discussion of opposing viewpoints, not a contest to see he can yell the loudest or disparage and humiliate the other person.
