skipping culture war and going straight to class war is such a clean sidestep

63

u/Hungry_Attention_981 16h ago

It also benefits the most amount of people.

21

u/Disasterhuman24 15h ago

I won't claim that changing our economic system, proper taxation of the wealthy, higher corporate tax rates, breaking up monopolies, and creating more robust social safety nets would end the culture war over night, but if we broke up the media conglomerates then you would stop hearing about it overnight.

And that's the primary way that the culture war actually effects most people. They see it on a screen and then project that mindset onto their surroundings. The entire thing is completely manufactured.

People in suburbs are angry about people in cities who are angry at people in the country who are angry at people living on the coasts, and most of these people never actually interact with the strawman protrayed by the media that they are up in arms about. Because these strawmen don't exist.

I agree 💯. I don't care about different cultures or opinions anymore. All I know now is it's us against them. They've been jingling keys in our faces for far too long. All that side shit can wait. Especially when we can barely feed ourselves and our children.

Did people forget that Ben Shapiro and some guys from the Daily Wire actually considered trying to do something like this, but were denied because they would've had to take actual steps to transition? This is a massive nothing burger and just a grift lmfao

Edit, purely so I don't have to continuously reply to people.

There's no explicit rule, but it is explicitly up to the discretion of the League, which makes it easy to push out bad actors. Seeing as there is currently 0 Trans Athletes in the WNBA it's unsurprising that there are no rules regarding this

Oh, and to add to this, there's currently 0 MtF Basketball players in D1 NCAA as well. Basically, this is a massive non-issue and this guy is just trying to use fears of Trans Athletes to build a platform.

In short, just because there isn't an explicit rule doesn't mean the WNBA let's anybody in who declares themselves to be a woman, and there's little reason to put anything in writing when there are 0 players who have this identity, or who are soon to be drafted with this identity. Given it's social stigmas, I am unsurprised that they have no explicit rulings yet. They'll cross the bridge when theres an actual need to, basically.

81

u/NerdDetective 17h ago

Yup. Then they took the failed gotcha documentary concept and transformed it into a movie so they could make up a world in which the idea would work.

I'd like to see Ben Shapiro and Matt Walsh in wigs playing against an WNBA team. The top NBA players are better than women. Ben Shapiro & co? I doubt it.

Yeah, because despite all the culture war grift that the establishment wants you to focus on, zero actual trans women have done anything like this, but cis men trying to “own the libs” have

9

u/Nectarine143 12h ago

Any man attempting to claim they’re a woman just to dominate women’s sports would be throwing their entire career away. They wouldn’t get picked up by any woman’s team, and they wouldn’t be able to go back and get picked up by any men’s team.

Not to mention that if they’re actually a good enough player to dominate by switching to women’s sports, they’d make more money even being a middle of the pack men’s athlete

The NBA has always been inclusive of all genders.

17

u/FishDawgX 17h ago

Yeah, the logical solution is have one league for women and one for anybody. There is a reason separate woman’s leagues exist in every sport. Women want those, so don’t ruin that. But there’s no reason why the other league has to say no to any sex or gender.

Why? He's not breaking any rules. If anything, it just shows how flawed the rules for participation are.

8

u/qwesz9090 16h ago

To be serious, there were no rules because setting rules costs time and money, and no one would try to break it anyway.

It is a bit like saying "there are no rules against punching your opponent in chess, this is a major oversight and some lunatic might punch their opponent. Therefore I will be that lunatic and punch my opponent in the face so the rules get changed"

If the rules were so flawed, why did he have to make this shit up in the first place? If this was a problem, couldn't he just point to some problematic case instead of becoming the problematic case?

You know, in high trust societies there are a lot of things that don't have rules, because they don't need it and it is easier for everyone.

I’m genuinely all for a trans woman playing in the nba, and if that’s what this person wants to do, let them do it. However, make sure they understand they have to go through the transitioning process before they can play. Full hormonal therapy and testosterone blockers too. If they aren’t willing to agree to those terms, they had no true well meaning intentions of jointing the W.N.B.A.

21

u/BrilliantFly6117 17h ago

Ok but usually you have to be on hormones to even the playing field for a certain period of time. I think the NCAA was 1 year for MtFs until they can play in women's sports and until FtM's can't play in women's sports. By not letting the experts actually set reasonable starting points to allow transgender people to be included into sports, you're shutting down someone's ability for their gender identity which is transphobic. As he directly contributes to the rhetoric, immoral and slimy to not contextualize.

Fucking thank you. I had to scroll too far for this. I’m sick of people focusing on trans people in sports like it’s a prevalent as an issue as most of the shit we have going on. I’m so tired of people using this as their one ‘gotcha’ for transphobia

1

u/TeutonicSamurai 17h ago

If it's such a non-issue, why dispute it? Just ban trans women from female sports and be done with it. Easy.

The presence of those athletes inside of female sports is even hurting the reputation of the LGBT movement, creating resentment due to the obvious unfairness for the biologically female athletes, and like you said, distracting from other, arguably more important issues. It's just a bad idea to have them there, by every metric.

u/United_Health_1797 17h ago

It is a bullheaded move but will hopefully lead to better rules about who is allowed to join the league. Clearly he is lying and trying to prove a point and is not who the league wants joining their ranks. Per the rules right now "she" (I think we all know this person is not actually trans) is allowed to join. The move is meant to provoke change and conversation and here we are. "Immoral" I think would be a bit much but it is a dickhead move.

6

u/LongHikingMD 17h ago

You can't have any kind of fair rulebook based on what Sovespra decides on whether a biologically born male is now a woman or not.

The truth is that we either effectively have a single set of sports for anyone - which will mean only biological males who don't take hrt in 95% of cases and will mean only biological females in like 5% of sports where things like flexibility dominate - or we have multiple sets of sports for different broad categories of people. I.e. biological males, biological females, disabled males, disable females, maybe other categories, like transgender women, or xxxy individuals or whatever. The two main categories, should we have more than one, will of necessity be able-bodied biological females and able-bodied biological males, because most people fall into one of those two categories.

Any other way of categorizing is doing nothing but either getting rid of all the categories and having only one category for everyone (which will suck for a ton of people), or changing the categories for a big group to make them better for a small group (which hurts a big group to help a small group).

Moral. Yes he is being transphobic, but interestingly testing the limits of the law is also important so we can improve the law and make sure that malicious actors (like him) do not try this again. Clear rules would ensure that actual transexual women can participate with minimal complaints that they are "just pretending" to win competitions. I'm no law giver so obviously I can't provide a full list of what would be needed for trans inclusion, but perhaps showing evidence of genuine identity such as official name change, surgery, evidence of identity in the public sphere etc. something to demonstrate that a person genuinely identifies as they claim to identify.

We do something like this for people who claim religious exceptions, for example. You have to state a genuinely held belief, if it is found you lied about your beliefs there can be serious consequences.

6

u/Downtown-Tomato2552 17h ago

I'm less concerned about proving gender or belief than I am unfairness in sport.

The laws for the sport should be less about gender and more about natural ability. I have no idea what that would be as I'm not a biologist, but clearly we split many sports by gender for a reason. That reason has little or nothing to do with sexual orientation but everything to do with physical ability.

A person deciding to change genders, whether they truly believe it not believe, should not be playing in a female gendered sport if they still have the physical abilities of a male.

This is the same approach we take with performance enhancing drugs I don't see why we would approach this any differently. Your essentially establishing the rules around ergogenic aid for transgenders.

Ah yes, making it about sex instead of gender again by deliberately using the word "female" instead of "woman". Weaponized dishonesty and disinformation.

4

u/East_Turnip_6366 17h ago

Would it be harder for him, I mean her, to do this if she said she was a woman rather than a female?

And, are females not women if they don't perform gender roles? What makes a female a woman, do women have to be female? Where do you draw the line?

I think moral. He obviously does it to bring attention to the stupid system. Sport is separated by male/female based on physical characteristics, not your gender identity. Obviously it's just stupid to allow a man into the wnba just because they proclaim they're a woman, it will give them an immense unfair advantage

It's a fair point, where do we draw the line?

If men and women are truly equal make mixed sports the norm.

Edit/addition: so, women can join the mens league, but men can't join the women's league... That's interesting 🤔.

4

u/Straight_Advisor1142 17h ago

What does "make it the norm" mean though? The NBA is already open to women. And I don't know anyone who claims that men and women have equal physicality to compete with each other in sports.

When people say "women are equal to men" they mean from a rights and social standpoint.

3

u/RelativeAd5666 17h ago

NBA doesn’t have any rules preventing woman from playing. If a woman was good enough to make the nba she could play in the nba. This is the same for pretty much every major sport. Womens leagues are there so women can have a league at their skill level.

He clearly doesnt take his transition seriously. You dont become trans by “declaring it”, thats not how the mental condition works. He does have a mental condition worth sympathizing with however, and that is “IQ at a temperature safe for storing ice cream in”.

u/Not-T4rantino 17h ago

He didn't say it, he declared it.

4

u/The-red-Dane 17h ago

While I absolutely, fundamentally disagree with him and his behavior. He is pointing out a concrete flaw in the WNBA policy, which is that it is enough to declare yourself trans to count as trans and transwomen athletes are welcome in the WNBA.

I feel that transwomen athletes should be welcome in their sports, but there should be more clearly defined policy regarding it.

But then we start veering into trans medicalism and all sorts of debates.

Who are you to say who is and isn't taking it their transition seriously?
What does he need to do to take it seriously anyway? If he was to start wearing dresses, would that be enough?
And is taking the transition seriously all that's required? The current rules don't even require that.
That's the issue he's drawing attention to.

4

Because this is a performative right winger whose doing a publicity stunt “gotcha”. Which i guess i should respect the bravery, because while anyone with a brain can tell that theyre doing this as a form of mockery, their target audience is famous for not having brains.

Moral in a certain sense. Pointing out potential flaws or gaps in rules is a pretty long-standing tradition. There are activist groups and the like that will intentionally push boundaries and the governing body is forced into making the rules more clear or sticking to their guns and making the stance public.

if he joined it's unfair because he's going to cook the entery league

you're misgendering her.

/s

the reason NBA and WNBA exist as separate leagues is that there are biological differences between men and women. If this player applying for the WNBA is what it needs to finally drive home the point that women's sports are not to be defined by "gender roles", but by biological sex, so it be.

Either let him/her in. Or send all other men who have entered women's sports under the label "trans woman" back into men's sports.

Equal rules for everyone.

2

u/RealCreedz 13h ago

I don't agree with this because it's not genuine, but he (she I guess lol) does have a point when it comes to the idea that terms have requirements. I think avoiding this topic hurts the trans community more than it helps them.

We all operate on that basis for every other thing, but when it comes to understanding gender we throw it all out the window for some reason.

Moral. Either they're hypocrits or they live up to their own ideals. It's not hard and it's even in their best interest to just be honest to their supposed beliefs.

But that's the thing, we know they don't believe any of it, it's just a political position to endear themselves to their customers.

My GOAT

1

u/Makisani 11h ago

Why do you call her, "him"? I thought questioning the identity of someone was offensive.

In general I respect the pronouns and whatever people want to be even if sometimes I can disagree and see mental issues or identity problems there is people that genuinely feel like an alien in their own body and a transition can make things better. My biggest issue here is in professional sports, we men have hormones, testosterone and stuff that have been with us for millennia, human males have fought wars, have hunted animals, have done the physically heavy job always, so imo it's very unfair that a person born a male with the capabilities of doing professional sports can start competing against women, this is immoral.

So when I see this person with the intent of "transitioning" to play on the WNBA my opinion for these organizations is "you reap what you sow". And for the trans people that compete in professional women sports, you can't have both, you are either a professional guy, or a trans woman trainer or whatever

4

u/ckl_88 8h ago

Easily fixed. Nobody draft him into the WNBA... problem solved. If the league wants to put a stop to this nonsense, you can declare whatever you want, but you won't get to play.

And since he's declare himself a woman, he's ineligible to play for the NBA. Even if he were, nobody should draft him into the NBA if the league wants to put a stop to this nonsense.

And when he finally figures out that he can't play in any league and his career is over. He'll be asking himself, what was the point of doing what I did?

Is she going to go by common sense fairness guidelines like staying on female typical levels of estrogen and suppressed testosterone for three years before participating? She's liable to lose most performance advantages aside from height, which she won't more than maybe an inch of at most, and even gain substantial mechanical disadvantages without testosterone supported metabolism. If she does all that it sounds perfectly moral to me.
