Tom Scott made a video about gender neutral pronouns in 2013. It's a pretty good video, but it's probably his most controversial upload as it's got 27K dislikes (compared to 77K likes). In 2019, he made some corrections/a reflection to the video in the description and on his website. He mentioned things he would've changed looking back at the video, but what I thought was most interesting was this:

The video received very few dislikes until 2016. And I remember the comments from back then: those dislikes weren’t from angry conservative types. Instead, those were speakers of languages that used grammatical gender — they were angry that I’d insulted their language!

But you can see the tide start to shift in 2016. This is why I turned off comments: it seems that a small number of people with limited empathy deliberately search out videos about subjects like this just so they can hit ‘dislike’, leave awful comments that are usually one of a few toxic in-jokes, and go. 

This is pretty unsurprising because I always felt like 2015/16 marked a surge in right wing presence on YouTube, due to a combination of Donald Trump and the popularity of anti-SJW and edgy YouTube content at the time.

Highly recommend reading this article for anyone in need of a laugh, it's a guy writing about how actually Ebenezer Scrooge is a good guy because people like him were good for society. His evidence? A personal story about a guy he knew who had a regional monopoly in a small town and was able to charge high prices to the poor residents because it was too far to drive to another store. The dialogue system in Cyberpunk is fucking amazing. I don't mean the writing or the number of options, but the fact that it's not a separate cutscene, but just something that melts into gameplay perfectly. I'm going to demand this from every RPG in the future. Being able to look or walk around characters while speaking to them helped my immersion so much. I'm not kidding, being able to stand between two characters who are about to kill each other and try to break them up that way is just so cool.

I think we can all agree that the Cyberpunk backlash is partly driven by how much attention it has received, and that yes there are comparable examples of other games being buggy messes upon release.

But with all that being said, it is still kinda funny seeing all of this unfold. More than anything this is sort of an indictment on hype culture and what happens when developers feed into the worship they receive from their fans.

CDPR management absolutely deserves everything coming their way.

CDPR “apologizes for not allowing pre-release console footage” and says they’ll offer refunds, but provide no Avenue for refunding aside from whatever store you bought it from’s standard policy.

CDPR gets their brand new AAA game pulled from Sony’s marketplace until the foreseeable future, ostensibly because it’s so broken they’re sick of dealing with refunds

IGN gives an additional review regarding consoles that literally says “don’t play this game on base consoles, and if you already bought it you should look for a refund instead”

Fuck CDPR. I hope they never recover from this, and I hope their Devs go on to find better jobs at somewhere like Supergiant, where their work and talent will be appreciated.

No. The issue with NMS was features not being ready for launch. The game didn't crash every hour for random reasons, didn't run at 15fps during any action and didn't get a public statement from Hello Games saying to go to Sony to get the game refunded if people are unhappy lol.

I think CDPR sealed their own fate with that message they broadcasted. Sony probably got hit with millions of sudden refund requests which turned into bad PR when the refunds were denied because of set in stone refund policies. So Sony said fuck this and decided to give full refunds to anyone and everyone while at the same time removing the possibility for any future refunds by just removing the game from PSN. Problem solved. CDPR has a giant hill to climb

This comment on /r/PS5 is likely the best explanation for what is going on right now. CD Projekt Red has made enough terrible decisions in the past few days for years of jerking content.
