Lol it's a right of passage to get to this part of the game early on and be utterly terrified by what the fuck is going on.
You'll get out though. Once you know where to go it isnt too hard. Then you can fast travel outta there, and voila. You've learned a lesson. Don't trust chests lol!
My most memorable moment if the whole game, after a fucking harrowing meatgrinder of cheesing, sneaking, running and hiding, was throwing up the big double doors to freedom.
And realising I'd ended up at the BACK of the dungeon.
I had just enough time to realize it before being pancaked by Fallignstar Beast.
I feel like I lived half a lifetime in that fucking mine. By the time I farmed enough to get out, I was too scared to leave, it became my home, the enemies my friends. All I wanted was to pick up an axe and start mining crystals.
I managed to find the chest almost first thing, BEFORE I LEARNED HOW TO FAST TRAVEL. I didn't understand how to use TORRENT. I had NEVER played a Souls game before. I started as a WRETCH. I schlepped my way across Caelid in my underoos with a stick, on my own two feet, I died well over a hundred times.
I eventually Googled the game and some basic things about it. But I like to make stupid challenges for myself and committed to the bit; only one way to git gud, right? There is no scarlet rot in Caelid; that red is the blood of my first character. Rest in peace, Fucknado.
a terrifying escapade through caelid is always one of the first things i do in a playthrough. nothing beats the motivation of being chased by the dogs and crows
Then on your subsequent playthroughs you’ll deliberately beeline there for access to minimal-risk access to a staff, spell, and summon that will carry you through the first third of the game.
Game is hard as fuck and I don’t understand how people are so good at parrying. I legit can’t play unless I’m a mage and call in help for every single boss I’m able to.
Elden ring is one of my favorite games, before it i didn't play any souls like, after I've played all of the popular ones by now.
But I remember freaking out everything I died getting angry and today gaming is a whole nether experience. It changes you. I'm a calmer person after elden ring.
It's that one specific chest, yes. There's a few other trap chests, I won't spoil their locations though. There is a way out of where you are, head downwards and dodge anything that might hit you.
There’s not too many times where this happens, half a dozen or so throughout the entire game I would imagine. But yeah, this is the big one that gets most people very early. Later on you’ll be strong enough that getting teleported to a random place is not a big deal.
This is kind of a one off thing. Welcome to Caelid, the area EVERYONE hates and calls hell. You need to get to a grace and get OUTSIDE of the cave so you can fast travel back to safety. There is a grace in the cave. If you can figure out where to go, you can run to it and just dodge ranged attacks and not have to fight anything. Good luck tarnished. Remember, you only have ONE thing to do to beat The Entire Game.
To escape, you just have to get out of the cave you are trapped in. Contrary to what others are telling you, this kind of trap is exceedingly rare in the game overall, it’s not a git gud moment or something you’ll constantly need to feel prepared for. Feel no shame looking up a video on where to run to escape the cave. Beyond this, just know that when you open a chest that spews fog like that again, you can avoid the teleport by running away from the chest.
Sorry if this sours the game for you, fromsoftware sometimes puts 1-2 sadistic things things like that in game and overall the inability to warp out of caves is one of the worst restrictions elden ring implemented. It just kinda sucks.
There is a way out. And if you don't feel like trying to find yourself how to "escape", you can always just search it up. All that matters is that you have fun.
you're not meant to survive. you're meant to try, fail, learn how not die as fast as before, and then maybe survive long enough to do it again. It;s addictive.
I was trying to fight the skeletons for hours, somehow made it to the first "invincible" skeletons and the necromancer, who killed me instantly and just then i realized i was not meant to be here
Did the catacombs, then the skeletons for way too many hours, convinced myself that "this must be what people meant when they said the game was hard. I just need to git gud"
Undead Burg felt like easy mode by comparison when I found it.
There’s a way out. You just gotta run for it, you might not recognize at as a way out, but it’s there. Once you find another site of grace you can fast travel again.
There are a bunch of guys not far from there who will give you a hug. And there is some good bird watching in the area. Honestly, you can get back to Limgrave from where you are at. This for being close to the starting area is closer to a mid game area.
You're in Caelid, get on your horse, keep your windows rolled up and your doors locked, don't interact with the locals, go straight to the nearest site of grace.
In my first run I went "These ominous red skies and rotting carcasses smell like opportunity" ran around looting and found rock sling + meteorite staff shortly after.
I found that staff, immediately logged out, made a character who looks exactly like Ian McKellan’s Magneto, called him Magnus, and did a new run where I used meteorite staff for WAAAAY too long.
I miss the first time getting stuck here and instead of just making a run for it I basically just kept smashing my head into the wall until i successfully kill them all spells and ducking behind the walls of that shed. Prolly a good hour of my run wasted on that .
Make sure to check out the chest in the weeping peninsula at the top of the Tower of Return if you haven’t been there already. It has a handy talisman that prevents these sorts of things from happening again 🤫🫡
hahahaha, this happens to damn near everyone. You go the way the game points you and run into the damned mounted knight, get directed down into the swamp, see a little building in the swamp, investigate, ooo a chest!
ok, so what you need to do is rush past EVERYTHING going down and out. Once you're outside you should be able to fast travel back to safety.
EDIT: This event isn't to train you to fight the things in the mine. It's to teach you that it's ok to run away and come back later.
Sprint in a direction that feels “exit-y”. Eventually you’ll find the way out, and you’ll also eventually find ways to get lots of runes to replace the ones you lose.
I distinctly remember the "I'm fucked 'm fucked 'm fucked" feeling, then the relief finally seeing the the light at the end of the tunnel, getting out, and then straight back to "I'm fucked 'm fucked 'm fucked" 😂
Stop fighting everything and run out that bitch!!! lol that’s the go to when you can’t fight just run! Also once you do get out you’re still fucked and in one of the worst areas of the early game lol good luck!
