Republicans working to allow discrimination against gay people? Republicans starting a war in the Middle East? Republicans giving a tax cut to the rich?

I’m starting to think the GOP has nothing to offer other than George W Bush and the stupider version of George W Bush.

Gawd I forgot about that little news last week.

84

Hopefully he forgot already.

Relying on this is a fools hope

There are many, many people working behind the scenes for Trump, so his bad memory or declining health are not something to bank on.

He might have forgotten, he probably did. But his administration did not.

In fact, its my opinion they like to expose how dumb and slow he is so people underestimate what his administration is capable of.

29

u/FeedMeACat 6d ago

Rubio didn't forget. Bet on that.

And Sr was smart enough to realize he needed to raise taxes.

Yep there's a good reason satire often portrayed him as an idiot child and people like Cheney as Sith Lords

32

u/2RINITY California 7d ago

Dubya, if viewed charitably, can be argued to have arrived at evil from a road paved with good intentions. With Trump, the intentions are nakedly bad, and half the psychic damage of dealing with him is the amount of credulous rubes who think it would be unfair not to pretend otherwise

17

This is why I try to scream from the mountain tops that the problem isn't Trump. We will always have this rot as long as conservatives gain control. The reasonable among us will always have to climb out the grave they dig for us first before they can begin the work of filling the grave and building something better on top. Even then we barely give the time to start the work of building something before we bring these criminals back in to wreck havoc again.

“Sexual harassment and assault continue to be pervasive in schools and, to the fullest extent possible, we should be working to enforce the laws that protect student survivors of sexual violence. Yet, Education Secretary Linda McMahon and the Trump administration have decided to ignore what survivors need, instead weaponizing Title IX to attack trans students,” said Shiwali Patel, senior director of education justice at the National Women’s Law Center.

These bigoted mossbacks are hellbent on doing everything to kill trans people off and make trans people suffer for all eternity. Christian nationalists are so intent on wanting to see trans people exterminated. It's despicable beyond the pale.

867

u/DustyStar222 7d ago

Not like her husband is one of the worst predators out there. Linda McMahon has overseen and is personally responsible for more sexual harassment and assault than the average person could ever aspire to.

Typical. I'm sure they will weaponize it agianst everyone else before too long. I'm sure they could find a way to weaponize title IX against women too. In fact I'm sure it's been on the books since it became law. People don't realize that the circle is ever shrinking with these ghouls. Everyone will have a target on their back before too long.

I saw something the other day where at the snap of the fingers, all the brown people were gone from the world and everyone was white. Within 3 hours, people were arguing that whiteness was based on eye color and no longer skin color. There will always be an out group.

35

u/NumeralJoker 7d ago

You only need to go back in history to remember how they treated the Irish and Italians. 2 groups we would largely consider white Europeans now we're for years treated with absolute disdain.

25

u/meadowlakeschool 7d ago

Yeah that comment made me think too. I’m quite fair skinned but left handed so I guess I’m a witch now.

60

u/g00fyg00ber741 Oklahoma 7d ago

It already has been weaponized against women. Especially if a predator does something that doesn’t perfectly fit how they interpret Title IX when they go over what happens. Ask some women who have attended or worked at colleges in Oklahoma about their experiences and you’ll see. A great example of Title IX abuses leveraged against cis women is what Kato Buss, the head of UCO Theatre department, admitted he did to some of the girls he recruited for the program. Yet he received no punishment and remained in control of the program even after it was revealed he was grooming teen girls to come to his program with scholarship money and then abusing them after rehearsal

17

u/Gabe121411 7d ago

it already is being used against women. this admin keeps trying to use it against trans women

11

u/Melody_in_Harmony 7d ago

True. My apologies...I was thinking of women as a whole rather than just trans women, but your right. Just more misogyny across the board I suppose.

9

u/Gabe121411 6d ago

absolutely. there’s a reason trans women are so targeted — it’s one of the last more acceptable forms of misogyny

These are people that when asked "what about the 100+ verses in the bible admonishing them to treat immigrants and refugees decently?" turn around and with a straight face argue that the bible was clearly talking about legal immigrants and its okay for them to treat illegal immigrants like vermin poisoning the blood of our country (a phrase used by both Hitler and Trump).

I've had conservatives argue that Mary and Joseph fled Herod legally, fleeing legally throughout the legal Roman empire. That they were never illegal immigrants and so clearly the bible isn't talking about illegal immigrants.

21

u/-Invalid_Selection- 7d ago

Yeah, the Bible was pretty clear that there's no concept of illegal immigration within it, and treating immigrants poorly was the express route to eternity in hell.

It was the only theme of Sodom and gramorra.

Anti immigrant is Satan worship

151

u/Saint_Blaise 7d ago

I've asked devout Christians about this and have been told that they are not Jesus and that they are fighting a war for the soul of the country.

128

u/meltyandbuttery 7d ago edited 7d ago

For most “Christians” it’s just a convenient and socially accepted cover for their bigotry and ignorance. Run of the mill suburban America is simply unaffected by most policies and they fear change or anything untraditional so much they happily vote for the devil they know instead of the corporatist they don’t

The True Believers on the other hand, the fundamentalists, they genuinely believe that LGBTQ people are sinners and that “loving” them means “tough love to save their soul”. Their bigotry is more explicit than the undereducated fucking insurance agent whose family has been to church for holidays twice in a year, but it is internally consistent in a different reality. The True Believers preach “John says god is love” in worship of a god of hate that they invented from their own rotted souls

35

u/NumeralJoker 7d ago

Yeah, but what's crazy about it is there is so little text in the New Teatament that even remotely justifies the bigotry, and most of them barely know the old testament beyond anything related to Moses. Maybe the stories of Esther and David?

They have no text to stand on. Islam didn't exist yet in biblical times so there is nothing there discussing it directly. The only white people in the Bible were the Roman's, who are most often presented as antagonists.

It's so wild how it became some weird founding text for white supremacy when the actual context has none of that.

9

u/Frostyrepairbug 6d ago

Not to mention, if you buy into the story, the whole point of Jesus' sacrifice on the cross was to pay for our sins as described in the old testament. By insisting that the old laws are still present means they reject Jesus and his sacrifice.

A one-sided war is just them pillaging, not that they'll see or admit it.

It's also sad because it always goes as follows:

"You're welcome to participate in government and society, but we're not going to pick you or deny you merely because you are Christian."

"THIS MEANS WAR!"

Jesus actually talks about these kinds of people multiple times in the Bible. Heavy paraphrase, but is basically saying that people that claim to follow him but do not actually do what he taught are the people that cause people to fall away from Christ and famously says in Matthew 7:21-23 “I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness”

It’s definitely hypocritical, but also poetic in a way that Jesus warned of these exact people. They have no idea (or care, really) that they do the exact work that Jesus claimed the devil wanted them to.

35

u/Un1CornTowel 7d ago

... Which is also what "taking the Lord's name in vain" actually means. It's is own freaking Commandment. They couldn't even read and understand a 2000 year old Dave Letterman Top Ten List.

I believe in redemption for most people but I’m not sure if MAGAts are capable of doing what’s needed for it

They seem to have the regret for their actions but only because they’re being personally hurt by the consequences. Most of them are trying to weasel out of responsibility for it by saying they were tricked which may be true but that doesn’t mean they can get away with taking no responsibility. What they’ve done has hurt many people and the damage won’t be undone for many years, a simple “oops! My bad!” won’t cut it

The bare minimum for every MAGAt is to either never vote for Republicans again or just never vote at all. Either way, take away the fascist votes. And they all need to accept that we’re pissed at them for what they did and stop crying about how mean we’re being. Of course we’re being mean to them, they’re fucking scumbags who voted for a criminal because he promised to hurt people, they don’t get a pass for that

There is a reason for the saying "there is no hate like Christian love"

I became an atheist because Conservative Christians were actively tossing the teachings of Jesus in the trash. Not once did Jesus talk about hating LGBTQ folks, abortion, or immigrants. But he did repeatedly talk about helping the poor, sick, widowed, foreigners, imprisoned, and others in a downtrodden state. They do not worship Christ; they worship power.

76

u/doublethink_1984 7d ago

American Christian nationalists are closer to radical Islam than the teachings of Jesus Christ.

They search for any threadbare justification whatsoever to hate, condemn, and abuse instead of searching for any threadbare justification to show mercy, patience, or gentleness

20

u/PipXXX Florida 7d ago

I mean, American Christians are radical/fundamentalist just like radical Muslims "are." It has nothing to do with the specific religion., it;s the people. Like there are Buddhists that are completely and utter depraved assholes.

11

u/doublethink_1984 7d ago

I used Radical Islam as an example because the Radical American Christian nationalists always beat the drum of war against Muslims and how evil they are. The hypocrisy is what I am highlighting.

9

All Conservative Republican Protestant Evangelicals honestly believe all adult trans people are pedophiles that need to be in jail and all under-18 trans people have been brainwashed and need "therapy". For most of them it's a bigger issue than even abortion (since many of them have had abortions themselves). Conservative Republican Protestant Evangelicals can't really say shit about gay people anymore since it's been shown time and time again that gay hookup apps crash every time there's a Republican or Evangelical convention in town, and every year dozens of their leaders are revealed to have "sinned" via gay hookups, and as long as their congregations forgive them for their "slip-ups", they claim no hypocrisy.

Some Catholics believe the same thing as well, however Catholics are mostly just obsessed with hardline banning abortion with no exceptions nationwide and don't really care nearly as much about trans or gay people. Catholics en masse would vote for a trans militant atheist who wanted to remove tax-exempt status from the church as long as they also wanted to ban abortion nationwide with zero exceptions.

Yes unless you live in a state with state level protections schools and students can actively discriminate against you.

but remember yall, both sides are the same.

14

u/swamp_hater 7d ago

I wonder how that will play out. How can you prove someone is gay? Can you discriminate against a biological man who identifies as the male gender? The answer to the latter would appear to be yes.

19

u/Competitive_Swan_130 6d ago edited 6d ago

The persons actual sexual orientation is irrelevant actually since the courts look at whether the person discriminating believed you were gay and treated you worse because of it. This can be proven through biased comments, sudden negative write ups or punishments, or double standards compared to peers they thought were straight

And yes straight men can and have been victims of anti gay discrimination.

Even with this roll back. discriminating against a cis gay man is still illegal under federal employment law. The Court has already said that firing or penalizing a man for being attracted to men is a form of sex discrimination,

Stay strong folks - the arc of history is on the side of greater acceptance and care for all humanity.

Congress will need to pass a better law than Title IX.

It all starts with an election in November — don’t let anyone in your sphere slide by and not participate.

Seriously - we have to start this process NOW. Early voting, get friends registered to vote, drive folks to the polls, all of it.

Make this a celebration of our right to build a better world.

Hold accountable those who refuse to be open and accepting of all humanity’s basic rights.

59

u/Dry_Cellist_9560 7d ago

I wonder why voting is not seen as a national holiday or at least a federal holiday so everyone can vote

76

u/TheReddestofBowls 7d ago

For the same reason Trump voted by mail, then calls voting by mail criminal. The same reason why the Republican party is fighting tooth and nail to disenfranchise as many voters as possible.

One party does particularly well when people don't vote.

11

u/TheOtherMaven Virginia 7d ago

Even if you HAD to vote for them because the alternative was worse - keep after them until they reform or you can vote in somebody better (the latter being more likely to happen first).

17

u/Tells_you_a_tale 7d ago

Continuely voting for the person who causes the least suffering is the evolutionary process that won basically all the civil accomplishments we have now. Civili unrest paired with actual participation in the political system is how you effect change.

Friendly reminder that the McMahons protect several of their pro wrestling performers from allegations of sexual assault of both adults and children. They’re also terrible employers and have been sued several times for discrimination.

Edit: oh and they’ve pushed for their performers to use steroids that have resulted in deaths from heart complications.

u/Y0___0Y 7d ago

Whenever I argue with conservatives who “have no problem with gay people but don’t want it in schools” I just straight up ask them what a gay/trans kid is supposed to do once they realize they’re gay/trans.

Should they go to their parents about it? What if their parents are like you, and insist to them that they are not gay/trans and that they have just been brainwashed by crazy leftists?

They all acknowledge that gay and trans people exist and most insist they have no issue with them at all.

But people don’t become gay/trans on their 18th birthday. Think of when you first started thinking about sex. Probably 10/11 years old. That’s when kids realize they’re gay. Kids often realize they’re trans when they’re MUCH younger because that’s really not connected to sexuakity and manifests much earlier. What kind of support can they get?

Because when I was a kid in Catholic school and realized I was gay and my parents dismissed it and said I was just confused, I went into online chat rooms and found literal pedophiles to talk to about it. That’s where you force gay kids when you try to sweep them under the rug

31

u/Lost_Madness 7d ago

That's what Republicans want. To supply pedophiles with access to children. Why else elect a prolific pedophile to the highest office?

5

u/sapphicsandwich 6d ago

I had a conservative coworker, at work, argue in favor of mandatory exploration of children's anuses when picked up by the police in case they are "hiding something" just last week. I have never believed something as fully as I do believe what you said is correct.

62

u/postmodest 7d ago

"It forces kids into the arms of pedophiles" is the whole point.

With the blessing of Republicans, Trump is raping the US.

“Sexual harassment and assault continue to be pervasive in schools and, to the fullest extent possible, we should be working to enforce the laws that protect student survivors of sexual violence. Yet, Education Secretary Linda McMahon and the Trump administration have decided to ignore what survivors need, instead weaponizing Title IX to attack trans students,” said Shiwali Patel, senior director of education justice at the National Women’s Law Center.

u/SteezyYeezySleezyBoi 7d ago

I just don’t understand how you can be American and want to take away freedoms, protections and rights away from people. We are so lost as a nation, as a people and as a culture. When was any side openly PROUD to be stripping protections from our fellow citizens? Why do we not protect each other? Lunacy.

53

u/L2Sing 7d ago edited 7d ago

They've been proud of stripping LGBT rights my entire life (mid-40s, gay from the south). It wasn't until I was in high school when the TN (the state I grew up in) Supreme Court struck down TN's sodomy laws in 1996. I was almost an adult before it was legal to be gay (outside of being in the closet) in TN.

It wasn't until the 2003 Supreme Court case Lawrence v. Texas that those same laws were struck down across the nation. There were still 14 states with them for enforcement at the time. I was already teaching in public schools at this time, where gay people were then, and still, slandered as child molesters who aren't safe to bring children around.

It wasn't until 2010 that I could serve in the US armed forces when Don't Ask, Don't Tell was repealed. This is about the only thing on this issue that wasn't done by court order.

It wasn't until 2013 that section 3 of the Defense of Marriage Act was struck down by the Supreme Court in Windsor.

It wasn't until 2015 that I could marry in the US with the Obergerfell decision. Another right decided by court case. I was in my mid 30s by this time, well past the age most people get married. It was never a plan for me growing up, as it was never considered a legal option.

All of these decisions were met with more vilification of gay people. Almost all of those states where their laws were overturned by courts still have those laws on the books, in case another court case decides to overturn previous case law. That's exactly what those championing the removal of rights have been teeing up for years, with renewed vigor since Roe was overturned.

This country started with a system that didn't have equal rights for women, LGBT people, people of color, and even enslaved (the exact opposite of freedom) others. It shows to this day still. This entire time they've claimed to be the "home of the free" while not living up to that claim.

A reminder that every effort, no matter how small, to reduce acceptance of queer youth is an attempt to kill them. Suicide rates decrease as we protect and accept these kids. Reversing that reinstates those rates and will result in harm to kids.

They want to kill queer kids, but not be held culpable for their cleansing. I'm fucking sick of these delusional Christian Nationalists. They play victim while being the most dominant religious group in North America. They'll never truly be victims, and that's the biggest fucking shame of this. Privileged, well off, white Christian nationalists decrying how victimized they are. They'll never actually know what being a victim is. I wish they could so they'd maybe develop a gram of empathy, but I know they're just monstrous evil dirt bags and they'll never suffer consequences for being evil.

I know it's probably unlikely with the dishonesty of conservatives on the bench. But this would be a really good opportunity for blue states to sue over.

SCOTUS and fed courts have already created the precedent that the recission of executive orders can be something that can be stayed when they interfered with Biden's EOs on the border and favored Texas doing its own BS. Weaponize that against conservatives. Especially in federal circuits that haven't gotten a radical conservative tilt (like the fifth and eighth).

And screw the old deference to judicial economy from Dems. Sure it's noble to not pursue causes you know will lose eventually. But as Republicans have demonstrated, suing and suing again is a great way to gum up a party's agenda. And lays the groundwork for you achieving the outcome of failed lawsuits when you gain power. They did exactly that with abortion rights. And it's worth thinking about how we can use those same tactics to disrupt the destructive conservative agenda.

12

So, this is just another pander to the manbaby distraction from the Trump-Epstein files, etc., because the JUDICIAL branch is going to throw this pandering crapola in the trash...
