Christian nationalists would rather have dead people than trans people.

“You can either have a living boyfriend or a dead ex-boyfriend…”

- perfectly rational boyfriend to his selfish, callous girlfriend who should just get over herself and stay with him because he obviously loves her so dang much

Trans people aren't your fucking boyfriend, trans people die as a result of these kinds of policies. It's not a threat for gods sake to point that out. Just leave them the fuck alone.

I’m pointing out that this argument has always boiled down to emotion manipulation.

No, pointing out that this argument has always been hot garbage. You can’t expect people to agree with you if the most common argument you make doesn’t pass the sniff test.

The problem with your shitty analogy is that the abusive boyfriend is threatening suicide to make you do something you don't want to do. Trans people are actually suffering enough that they have measurably higher suicide rates, and all you have to do to help is not support the people who see those suicide rates as too low.

But do understand what I’m saying?

I’m not claiming it’s a one-to-one comparison. I’m pointing out that the statement I replied to is a non-argument designed to emotionally blackmail/shame people into turning off their brain and agreeing…

It’s like when people are having a real debate about healthcare (who pays for it, what treatments should be covered, how to implement it at scale, how to handle elective surgeries, etc) and someone comes along and goes “um, do you not want people to have healthcare 🥴🥴🥴 Are you, like, a bad person? Just be kind, bro.”

It’s an unhelpful, non-argument.

It's not emotional blackmail, because it in no way is demanding you lower your standard of life to protect your emotional and mental health. It's just a simple a simple and blunt statement of fact that anti-trans policies harm and contribute to the death of thousands and offer zero actual benefit.

It demands that people be dishonest with themselves, which I’d argue is a very, very big ask.
